Life on the Sea of Grass has left Auron lean and hardened. Tanned skin soaked by Syna's rays clings tightly to muscles that ripple across his body. Windmarks weave their way from Auron's right shoulder blade down and around to his right side. Both shoulders similarly bear tattoos; the one on his left extends all the way down to his forearm. His light brown hair falls down to his shoulder blades, but he most often wears it with the sides bound into a single braid that lays atop the hair at the back of his head in a kind of low half ponytail. He prefers to wear a light, trimmed beard with it as well. Both he and his horse are often adorned with feathers, either hung from the braid or tied behind his ear. Auron's eyes are set deep into his face, and his jaw angles down into a square but narrow chin. He is broad of shoulder, though not so much that he might be mistaken for a body builder. The rest of his body is proportionate to what one might expect of a Drykas who has had to carve a living out of the plains of Cyphrus. Although his manner of dress is simple, the clothing he wears often bears elaborate knotwork identifying his Drykas heritage. He wears brown, sturdy leather boots that come to the top of his calves, and tanned tight-fitting leather breeches that are bound by a braided-leather belt. He wears a plain, light green cotton shirt under a dyed, dark green leather jerkin that he often leaves unclasped. While riding in inclement weather, he usually dons a cloak.
Character Concept
Though Auron was raised among the Drykas, he is but half of one. The son of a human father and a mother who belonged to the Emerald Clan, he feels that he has only lived half of the life he was meant to. Born and raised amongst the Drykas, he has always felt an urge - a calling, rather - to see for himself life outside of the horse clans. This is not to say that the Drykas shunned Auron, or were unwilling to accept him as one of their own. Truly, the community embraced him after his parents were killed in a grass fire, raising him as if he'd belonged to their pavilion all along. However, new experiences awaited Auron in the cities that he would never have been able to find in any pavilion. Armed with the practical knowledge of having had to live the life of a nomad and his father's prized bow, Auron set out to see the world at large for himself, to become closer in touch with his purely human side.
Personality:
Auron, like the other Drykas, is both passionate and uninhibited. In his travels, he is like to start conversations with total strangers that he meets. Outwardly he is very warm, though he finds immense pleasure in poking fun at others. While he both open and very confident in himself, he is much quieter than some of his prideful clansmen. This is to say that he is more restrained than them; he does not boast, and he avoids making insults that tend to escalate things. Always on the lookout for an opportunity to inject some humor into his dealings, he maintains enough of his ferocity so that he is quick to anger, should things get personal. He is fiercely passionate with anything he has decided to invest his time into, whether that be a particular skill, a job, or a woman.
Character History
Auron is the son of an esteemed archer who fell in love with the Drykas - and, in particular, one of their women. He was raised as a member of the Emerald Clan, the foremost hunters in the Sea of Grass. Auron's father was a natural with the long bow. His prowess earned him an invitation to several tournaments, and due to his performance, he was recognized as one of the most skilled marksmen of his time. It is thought that one of his aquaintances - a fellow competitor perhaps - stirred in Auron's father a longing to know the land of Cyphrus. After a short but admirable career competing in archery tournaments, Auron's father joined a Snarlwing-hunting expedition to Cyphrus. Of course, we all know the Sea of Grass to be a dangerous place. Auron's father was injured during one of the expedition's forays, and left for dead by the other hunters. Members of the Emerald Clan found him, provided shelter for him in their pavilion, and nursed him back to health. The archer fell in love with the woman who was charged with his care.
Auron's early life was unremarkable. His father taught him to use a bow, and the basic fletching skills he would need to make his own arrows. His mount is a Gildling; it was sired by his father's horse, and even though it is not one of the Drykas' prized Striders, the rest of the clan doesn't seem to discriminate against it. He did, after all, choose Auron to be his rider. The horse, Kaedyrn, was most all of what was left him after he was orphaned at the age of 14. He was adopted by the Clan, finding a home with another pavilion until was considered of age. The loss of his family further weakened the ties that Auron had to the Drykas. He desired to see the lands that his father had left behind, and that he had often dreamed they would visit together when he became of age. The pavilion that he belonged to, lost forever to him, is the reason why he bears no surname. His departure from the Emerald Clan was only marred by the uncertainty within his own mind. He had always wished for the opportunity to detach himself from the Drykas, and to experience life outside of the Sea of Grass. He never thought that this opportunity would come to him at so great a cost.
