The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

“That’s what I like to hear, and you’re in luck. Me and our second member in the company are just heading to that Akalak city” Trios stated deciding not to comment on the headache comment. It would have just get lost in the translation again until this Jakri could learn to speak common at a competent level. But Jakri’s saving grace was that he had a decent grasp on the language.

“Oh and you can call me Captain Trios, Cap, Boss take your pick” Trios said as he began to walk away on the new member giving a brief jerk of the head to indicate that the man should follow. The Isur took a good long second to enjoy the title, it was a good reminder of the pain endured and of what had to be done to deserve the title. With two men following him to gods know what Trios knew he had to make damn sure the got results.

“Common I need to at least get three laps round the camp before sundown, doc’s orders for this zith-shit of a right leg” Grumbled Trios as he limped on his cane winching at the jabs of pain on the wound due to the cold air of the approaching night.

“Plus you can entertain me with your story Jakri, Like for instance how does a goggled and capped man end up wondering these grassy seas?” The Isur gave a dark chuckle at the endless possibilities of how Jakri could have ended up where he was.

"Second member? Akalak city?" Akalaks are professional Zith hunters right? What happens if one of them sniffs out Jakri? Would the whole lot of them hunt him to the death? Brrr thats a scary thought. Its too early for Jakri to die yet. Not until he has had his done what he had set out to do. And then some.

"Yes sir Captain!" Jakri agreed to go walk around the camp. Until the captain talked about his Zith shit leg. Did another Zith just like him do that? What would his captain say about that once he find's out Jakri's true identity? "What the zith do to your leg Capt'n?" Jakri really liked saying captain. It was the same thing he read about in that book he found. The most important and respected man in the ship is always the captain.

Still thinking on about whatever zith problem the captain had, Jakri decided that he won't go into much detail about himself. "Uhmmm, you know...just leaving the family to look for something better?" following the captain with his head looking to the ground. Hoping that his lie won't mean the captain any disrespect.

“Hahahaha! If you don’t want to talk about it that’s fine and sunny, just don’t make up a piss poor lie like that.” Trios laughed coldly as if it didn’t matter that Jakri had wished to withhold that information for who knows what reason. Just looking at Jakri was like a spitting image of a child caught red-handed in a lie. But the man could have at least made up a better cover story or lie, what did this man think that he’d fall easily for such a deception.

The grass pressed lightly against Trios’s hobbled strides as he moved. Small insects were jostled out of their hiding spots as the limping man kept on his circular trail around the campground. “Ziths? They wish they had the strength to break my leg, but they didn’t do this. I could tell you who did but you wouldn’t believe me, plus that business is between him and me.”

The last bit was said with teeth barred as Trios tried to shake the thought that he owed that bastard of a being a favour for sparring his life. Taking out a small water skin from beneath his leather jacket, the Isur took a greedy swig as if the water would ease the pain on his pride.

"But it is fine and sunny!" Jakri cried out in protest. In the Sea of grass you definitely want to have the sunny weather. Especially when you are a zith. Flying blind or in bad weather conditions is really not good at all. Especially when you are already in a place as dangerous as the Sea of Grass competing for airspace and prey with the Glassbeaks. As for his lie the only true thing he can say is "Sorry captain."

Thinking of Glassbeaks made Jakri wonder how is the captain going to escape if they really did run into danger. Look at his leg. Its weak and wobbly even needing a cane to help. "You don't believe me too. So its fair?" Jakri said. He was curious. Who is this man who demands more respect from the captain than a zith? Everyone knows the zith. Everyone fears the zith. Everyone wants to kill a zith for fear of being killed themselves. And if Jakri followed the captain, what would happen if that man comes after them? Would he be drawn into their feud?

Even as a zith Jakri got scared by the captain's sudden baring of teeth. Like one of those animals he had hunted in the past. His predatory instincts immediately kicked in making him hiss at the captain in retaliation. "SSSSSSSSSSSSSS"

Trios blankly gazed at the now hissing male. It was unheard of for a human to hiss mid-conversation, and the captain admitted that he just found out that his natural reaction to someone who does so was a silent confusion. But he did hire this individual and even if Jakri was mad in the head Trios admitted he needed the help. A little bit of crazy was excusable anyway, Trios rationalized that some of his own actions might have been considered such so who was he to discriminate?

“You’re an odd one I’ll give ya that Jakri….”

It never even occurred to Trios that humans could hiss like that, kelvics or those snake people maybe but it was an odd thing to see a grown man hiss at you. It took a few seconds for Trios to snap back into this previous thought. Shaking his head to break the awkward silence Trios kept his stride as if Jakri hadn’t done anything unusual.

“So be it, I’ll trade you my story for the true version of yours. If you really want to know it was Zulrav. We hit one of his monsoons last fall on the grasslands. I never knew the winds on land could get so fearce but we had to travel through it. It even drove our Drykas guide to attempt a prayer, to which I replied that only a weak fool would pray for protection from a god. Turns out that ol’windbag was that storm Hahahaha, suffice to say I might have been the first of my kind to fly.” Trios started as he needed to sit down from the strain on his right leg. With a subtle thud from the impact in the grassy earth the man casually looked up to his walking companion to continue his tale.

“He said I owed the divine for sparing my life that day before flicking me down to earth like a flea. Isur’s weren’t meant to take that sort of landing from that distance so my leg shattered once I hit the ground. Looking back through the pain and anguish I still wouldn’t have changed a word I said. My first advice Jakri if you want to sail is that you don’t lie down and pray for protection in a raging storm, you stand tall….you fight through it.” Trios didn’t tell Jakri the whole truth why he spat in the face of a god as there was more than one reason. The Isur just felt that he’d conclude the story to Jakri’s interest of sailing.

Three Worlds [Conrad][Jakri]

The awkward silence from the hissing brought Jakri back. What was he doing? He was trying to hide the fact that he was a zith wan't he? But here he was hissing at the first person he had met after leaving the colony. This won't do at all. And if the captain thought a lot more on it he might know something was up. "Yes captain, sorry captain." Jakri answered trying to break the silence and salvage whatever he could.

For a cripple, Trios was having a good pace. Jakri who as the rest of his species preferred to make use of their wings most of the time. It was fast, easy and efficient. But that only meant it was a bit hard to get used to walking so much. While he tried to keep up the pace with the Isur, he was given a very interesting proposition to swap stories.

Jakri has heard of these...gods before. Prayers and threats from some of his victims in the past. If the so called divine beings were real surely those men and women wouldn't be either slaves or food. A lie, thats what all the gods were. Not like the zith, everyone can vouch about the terror of the zith which plagues the Sea of Grass. Distracted by his thoughts and the surprise from the thud, Jakri found himself saying "Yes, flying is nice right?" before he brought his hand up to cover it up before he can say anymore.

"So...will you pay back the god one way or another?" Jakri asked with a little grin on his face when Trios concluded the story. He did not seem like a person to take an insult like that lightly. Even after what had happened to him according to the story, it seems like he did not change one bit. The zith found himself having a little admiration for the isur and excitedly put forward a little request of his own. "Then you will have to teach me how to fight through it!"

It was now his turn as part of the deal. Jakri was going to have to tell the truth. The truth was subjective though. As the light started to get dimmer, Jakri stood looking at the captain thinking of how he would tell it. Obviously some parts would have to be omitted to hide his blood. It won't be a lie, just concealing the truth as he reasoned with himself. "Well uhm...I was supposed to take over the family's work. I was from a large family so the job for the young ones like me are already set. But I wanted to do something else. Something I found out while I was roaming one day. My family wanted nothing of it. So I had to leave. I don't think I will be welcome back."

Jakri said all this with much conviction and no remorse. As far as he was concerned he no longer had a family, his colony. He was alone now but it was good. Family was a weakness he can do without. He will strive, he will succeed in his goals. And this Captain Trios will be the one to take him there.

Three Worlds [Conrad][Jakri]

Postby Trios on August 10th, 2011, 4:37 am

“Id rather keep my feet on something soild” The Isur mumbled underneath his breath as he looked up towards his standing companion. Trios took Jakri’s comment as the man’s idea of a lame joke and nothing more.

Trios then remained silent as Jakri asked if he’d fight back against Zulrav. It was a wet dream after all, and maybe after that battle was won the Isur could drink the ocean dry. No, there were a few things to take care of first, if anything Trios learned that you don’t do the impossible overnight. Even after Jakri spilled his life story, Trios was only half listening as if his thoughts kept him from concentrating fully.

At least this time the strange new recruit gave a truthful tale of his past form what Trios could rationalize. However, Trios remained solemn in deep in thought which was broken when Jakri asked if he could be taught to withstand the storm. It was almost too pathetic to even mock the naivety of the question. Though not willing to admit, and in honest truth the Isur just wasn’t accustomed to people requesting that sort of thing from him.

“Like I said before if your ears didn’t understand our agreement before I’ll show you the ropes but in the end it’s your own strength that’s got to hold on to them” Barked Trios coldly as he growled with effort to get back to his feet. It was hard and painful to stand from a seated position and not wanting to appear a weak cripple in front of the newcomer Trios refrained from asking for assistance. Pride cost the man a good deal of energy to get back on his own feet, but the same pride kept him from showing the strain.

“Well it is a load off my back to know I didn’t hire a man without a backbone” Trios added a brief chuckle with his statement. It was refreshing to know that Jakri was willing to go as far as leaving his own family to do what he wanted with his life.

Had Jakri said something wrong? Trios suddenly mumbled something a little bit hostile though Jakri could not catch much. And after that he was silent throughout like he wanted nothing to do with the zith. But all that was put to moot when the isur reminded him about their agreement again.

"What ropes do you want me to hold?" Jakri asked with a confused face not getting the idea. The captain was a weird one. Always saying strange things. Jakri could only hope he picked the right person to follow but that would be hard if he could not even follow what was being said. While Trios struggled to get up, Jakri just tipped his head wondering what to do. Normally at situations like this he would find himself swooping down from the darkness to fly his weakened prey off with him. But then Trios already said earlier he did not like flying.

While he followed Trios, Jakri smacked his back a few times giving out a loud clapping sound "Clap! Clap! Clap!" If the captain wanted to get a person with a backbone, Jakri better make sure that he fit the bill unless he wanted to get ditched in the future.

Storyteller Notes

This was an interesting read. I enjoy reading things from Trios's perspective and his dialogue tends to amuse me. I couldn't find much to give XP or Lore for, but I am new to the job so I'm still getting used to picking things out. I gave you a point in storytelling for the brief recounting of your encounter with Zulrav.

If you have any questions or concerns about the rewards you obtained, please feel free to send me a PM about it. If you feel that I've not given you experience or lore for something that you feel you deserve, I'd be more than happy to take a second look at the thread.
