Physical Description Ilyamatar is 5' 6" tall. She is slender with long, graceful limbs but has very obvious feminine curves. Her hair is long and dark but shimmers with the bright, jewel like colours of the Aurora as though Morwen's lights have been placed in her hair like irridescent highlights. Her eyes are striking, deep and bright and like all of her race they change colour with her mood but Ilyamatar's are most often shining red as though lights comes from within her. Her features are delicate and combined with her hair, eyes and unusual emotionally distant personality she has an ethereal quality that has been known to fascinate those who meet her. She is beautiful but her cold, unfeeling persona makes her almost untouchable and emotionally difficult to reach. She is physically fit and toned her health and strength essential to her survival in their harsh climate. She is particularly dexterous, her fingers are slim, her hands soft, smooth, delicate and useful not only for her carving but also to add visual poetry during her storytelling. Ilyamatar is ambiexterous and does not favour one hand over the other. Character Concept Personality: Ilyamatar is as cold and unforgiving as the icy landscape which she inhabits. She has the ability to feel love and compassion but she hides her endearing emotions well considering any show of emotion a weakness. Her manner with others can be dismissive or indifferent but her behaviour is calculated and considered and used to prevent others from gettting too close to her and thus preventing hurt should they disappoint or betray her. She has little faith in others and always doubts sincerity. She fears love because in loving others she leaves herself open to hurt and after losing her father who was her sole guardian she has felt such pain that she cannot conceive of loving another in such an unguarded manner again. She cannot trust as freely as others of her race and respect and indeed trust have to be earnt this is again part of her defence mechanism as Ilyamatar believes if she does not love, or depend on anyone she cannot be hurt or let down but the ice and snow, cold and unending are a lonely place when dwelt within in a self imposed solitude. Her emotionally reserved nature makes her stand out amongst her people who are usually sociable extraverts. Whilst she is not as openly friendly and bubbly as others of her race when telling stories she has a natural flare. In storytelling she becomes livelier and her hands, her voice and her body combine to entertain and to coax others into immersing themselves in the tale she tells. Ilyamatar is a born survivor, (as Vantha should be). She is independent, strong-willed and resilient. Ilymatar is now 25 and unmarried which for her people is unusual and makes her one of the few to remain single, (the usual age of marriage is between 16-20). As a Vantha female unmarried at 25 she is considered an ice-maiden and this leaves her on the edge of their society whilst remaining attractive and alluring. Her loan status is inpart due to her father's death leaving Ilyamatar an independent female with no family to negotiate a marriage. Ethics: Whilst she fears love, affection and relationships and finds it hard to trust or risk hurt she is loyal to others and will defend those weaker than her should there be need. She is passionate about people being treated fairly and judges those she meets for herself not allowing the words of others to influence her own feelings or opinions, (this can be unfortunate). Likes:Families and strong friendships. Ilyamatar is fascinated by them and craves the closeness and comfort of familiarity, love, trust and security for those are the things that she most treasures even though she will never admit this. Ilyamatar enjoys the snow, the cold, the sound of ice crunching beneath her boots and the childlike excitement she feels when sliding on the ice. lyamatar has a healthy appetite and can consume alcholic beverages without too much detrimental effect on her behaviour, she knows her limits and sticks to them because she finds it so difficult to trust she cannot allow herself any excessive vulnerability. Ilyamatar spends a great amount of time contemplating the past and retelling in her mind the stories passed onto her from her father. She enjoys time in solitude and will often look up into the sky studying Morwen's Lights. Dislikes: Men who see her womanly curves and make assumptions about her or impose upon her their own ideals of how women should behave. She dislikes those who confront her with the truth or try to make her see that in being so cold and unfeeling she is causing her own sadness and loneliness to continue unnecessarily. She dislikes greed and does not regard wealth as evidence of sucess. Avanthal - My Home, the Skyglow Hold Ilyamatar is a member of the Skyglow Hold and she is true to the founders of Skyglow wishing as they did to dwell where the sky glows the brightest and where she can gaze upon the Aurora and take inspiration in Morwen's everpresent lights. The Aurora inspires Ilyamatar's work, her storytelling and her carvings. Ilyamatar embraces the history of her hold and seeks to improve her skills in carving and storytelling as well as learning new artistic ways to express herself and tell the stories of her people. She respects Pavix, the first leader of Skyglow and his unsurpassed work and without the distractions of a relationship Ilyamatar has time and energy to spend improving her crafts and working hard so that one day she might be as skilled as Pavic himself. The goal of most people in the Skyglow hold is to have their art displayed in Morwen's Ice Palace but Ilyamatar desires to make something so beautiful that Morwen herself will wish to possess it. Character History Pre-Creation Born in the Taldera city of Avanthal Ilyamatar was part of a small Vantha family. Her father was a skilled artisan, his trade like many of the people of the Aurora Borealis was carving and his carvvings were particularly intricate and lovingly detailed. His carvings were beautiful physical recordings of the stories he told. He had loved Ilyamatar more than anything and had taught her his trade ensuring she was skilled as he was at both carving and storytelling but wanting his daughter prepared for life in their icy land he made sure she had some skills at hunting, cooking and swordmansship, skills he considered essential for not only her survival but inorder to allow her to thrive where others struggled to merely live. He doted on Ilyamatar and to all who observed them it was unquestionable that his love and care for her was without end and is time invested in his precious and only child given with pride and joy. But her father never quite felt his time and love were enough and in his eyes Ilyamatar always saw sadness for when Ilyamatar had come into the world a bright red light in her eyes simultaneously her mother had passed, her life and light extinguished during the difficult birth in the brutally cold Winter of 485 AV. Ilyamatar had been satisfied with her life when her father was alive. She listened to his stories remembering what she heard and learning the skill of storytelling well. Knowing the importance of weaving into the story subtle lessons and enchanting listeners with such details as to have them salivating at the mere slow, seductive, utterance of descriptions designed to make visions of the tale dance in their minds. Ilyamatar had not only grasped the value of their oral history but understood the fundamental importance of retelling their stories and passing them on to new generations and aquaintences passing along with them the knowledge of her people. She could speak of the beginning of the world as though she saw it herself and though there was much more to be learnt in the art of storytelling she had a natural, innate ability to cause others to listen in a manner that would allow them to be fully absorbed in the tale she was telling. She was enchanting, ice cold, desirable and yet unattainable which made her all the more wanted. She had heard much of the future from her father, stories of the world's end but of those things not yet seen come into fruition she never uttered, at least she had not spoken of them thus far.
