The Pavilion Located near estuary of the city, the Pavilion market is one of the first marvels of civilization one encounters within Ahnatep from the docks. Rows of wide, heavily decorated tents flank several cobbled roads and pathways, each filled with a myriad of goods and produce. Local merchants come in scores to sell fish, textiles, palm oil, and other base foodstuffs and trade goods while very few peddle more luxury wares. One is bound to find the occasional odds and ends, but the majority of product sold details the necessities of day-to-day life. And while one can pick from a vast scale of peddlers, the domineering force lies with the House of the West Winds. Possessing noble backing and the biggest tent in the pavilion they house the largest trade of barley and alcohol in the entire city. This makes them quite popular among the commoners. Throngs of Jackals patrol the markets daily, keeping general order and preventing blatant theft. The House of the West Winds supplies some of their own guard as well, ensuring that their business remains smooth and intact. Albeit, none of this is guaranteed. In order to stake a claim within the pavilion one must discuss and enter into a lengthy contract with the offices of the Pressorah. These documents often entail what the merchant is allowed to sell and the leasing of the land to be used for a set period of time. Several clauses include protection from the city guardsmen, making the merchants thoroughly under the jurisdiction of the royal house. Areas of Note
