There was a whole lot to learn about the art of poisons. Kavala knew, being a healer, that one of the best ways to understand how to counter poisons is to learn about how to make them herself. And to that end she had two books open in front of her. One was called "The Poisons of Mizahar" and the other was called "An Introduction to Philtering". Both were texts she'd accessed in Riverfall's Valkalah Library.
There truthfully wasn't much information to go on based on Kavala's experience, only that she'd need to learn a few things before she could put her common sense to use and experiment. Much of what she needed to know was in the books handily written. And the first thing she figured out was that people that first began learning poisons needed a bit of equipment. First was a poisoncrafting kit and definitely an identification kit. She'd have to make a trip to the Warrens for those. Kavala hoped no one would look at her in a way that would make her look bad - a healer buying poison crafting equipment. She already had a full philtering lab, so that wasn't so much of an issue.
And according to her book, novice poisoncrafters would need to learn their equipment, and could learn two or three families of poisons - just the basics - within those poisons. Beginning level poisons only did slight to moderate damage to those that were victims of the poison. And unlike advanced poisoncrafters, novice poisons would only last eight to twelve hours before they needed to be used... which was similar to how long the effects would last. That was good information to have because it meant she knew her restrictions and what she couldn't and could do as a beginner.
And with that, Kavala headed to the Warrens, hitching up the horse cart and making her move so that she could have a way to carry the equipment and items she needed back to The Sanctuary. She was gone three hours. That's how long it took her to comb the back alleys of the Warren and find the contact she needed to find to get her poisoncrafting kit and identification kit. But the trip hadn't been for naught.
Quite a few of her purchases had been a surprise. For instance, she'd ended up with 50 glass bulb tipped crossbow bolts that one could load with poison for hunting. That worked well with her because at novice levels the poisons wore off and left the meat fit to eat. At the same location, she'd also picked up a set of black bracers that were fitted with needles that were springloaded and could be loaded with poison so that she could get away in the event of an attack. Not only did they turn out to be great armor pieces to add to her suit of night armor but they also were great defensive weapons for a Konti alone caught in a bad situation.
Once she got home, she set up the identification kit and the poisoncrafting kit and and got back to work studying her book. Even though both kits were portable, it was no easy feat and she took time to go through her stocks to see what she had and what she needed to gather. Not everything could be bought at the market, and when she complied her list she was happy to note she had almost everything but the aquatic elements. She'd need bloodroot, whinnies, bump root, rogue vine, whisper vine, sea slugs, and sea weed.
So after setting up the lab, Kavala took a quick trip down to the beach, swam with her mesh bag, and brought back numerous kinds of sea weed and a half dozen sea slugs, which were not hard to find directly off Sanctuary's coast in the rocky shallows.
