The Journey

While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

The Journey

The pungent musk or the dead bear was already taking on the odor of death as the spilt blood melted with the other scents, adding a sour taste to the air and the smell made Nex's stomach growl, suddenly wanting to dig into the raw meat while it was still fresh. It just smelled so good, and a slight line of drool appeared on the corner of his lips, but he wiped it off and resisted the urge to dig into the meat, knowing that Odis and Ricky might need help. The bear attack had been rough by all accounts, but Nex thought they'd rather got out of the whole thing rather unscathed, and the safety he felt in the present air around him soothed him somewhat.

His heart beating gradually slower he could more focus on Ricky, and more importantly Odis who appeared to be in more pain, but Nex didn't know anything about healing, so for lack of anything better to do, he sat beside Ricky and examined over his shoulder, all the damage that Odis had received. Little injuries from the bear showed themselves, and the only injury he could see was the sever looking burn on his leg, that likely landing his makeshift weapon had caused. Feeling a bit guilty, Nex stirred in silence at Ricky's side while he went about taking care of Odis.

The Journey

Ricky took some ointment and a bandage out of his things, looking to over to Nex; who seemed a bit discouraged about the burning wood. "Hold Odis down for me." Nex did without a hesitation, placing his hands firm but gently on Odis' chest and neck. Ricky barely touched Odis with the ointment, and the dog released a whine so painful that it hurt Ricky as well. He didn't want to put Odis through further pain, but the wound had to be treated. Nex no doubt could see Ricky's left shoulder bleeding pretty bad, but Ricky couldn't focus on his own being right now. Not when his only family was hurt worse.

Ricky braced himself and tried to comfort the struggle pup, so that they could finish treating the burn. "Odis boy I know it hurts but you have to stay still, OK?" He told the dog, rubbing the pup's head to try and comfort him. The poor pup still gave low whines, but Ricky felt that Odis understood. "Just wait a moment and everything will be alright." He looked back to Nex, who nodded to show that he was ready, and placed his free hand back on Odis' thigh. He began to carefully smear the ointment, and Odis began to whine louder. However he barely struggled this time, this time the pup tried to stay still. Often a twitch occurred, but the whining didn't stop until he finished wrapping the bandage around the dogs leg.

It was then Ricky finally used what was left of the ointment on his wound, after cleaning the blood off of his arm. He never thought the bear would've scratched him so deep, but then again he never really felt the scratch. He bandaged it tight, but that didn't mean the bleeding would stop. "Thank you Nex for helping me." He looked back to his companion, who only appeared to watch the whole time. "Your a real lifesaver you know, and Odis would still be having trouble trying to get that medicine on his leg if you weren't around." He wondered if Nex was blaming himself for the burn, or if Nex thought that Ricky or Odis blamed him. However it wasn't the case, and he wanted to make sure Nex didn't feel any shame what-so-ever.

The Journey

Postby Nex Paciscor on June 20th, 2011, 7:29 pm

Nex went about helping Ricky heal Odis as best as he could, though mostly he was only keeping the poor animal steal while Ricky did what he could for him, and he sighed knowing that the dog was in pain because of his little move with the fire, which he still couldn't believe he did considering his dislike of it, and just blamed it on the spur of the moment. " It is no problem, the fire was a bit of a bad idea " He said slowly and softly, as if he was weighing each and every one of his words. Though Nex could understand everything Odis was saying he still felt bad that he had put him in such a position and when Ricky had finished bandaging him, Nex stood up, and stretched looking around for something, anything to distract his mind. His eyes came to rest on the carcass of the bear not to far from them, and the still burning stick resting on the ground, a small fire had been lit where it rested but the grass was still green so it hadn't spread too far at the moment, but the sight still froze Nex in his tracks.

The licks of flame reflected within his golden eyes and his first instinct was to run, run far away to somewhere much safer then this place. The dead bear, the fire, it was all making this present environment look that much unsafer to him. Steadily creeping to the side, he inched his way to his pack, and scooped it up, slinging it over his shoulder, and put on his shoes to make running with his supplies a lot easier, and slowly he inched his way back to Ricky, his eyes never leaving the small fire that was spreading, slowly licking up the side of the bear as well. " We should leave this place, and fast " he said in a hushed tone and his eyes flickered from their controlled fire to the uncontrolled one just before them, and suddenly both of the malicious sources of light where his enemies, his guilt for hurting Odis projecting on them, and wordlessly he edged even farther back till he was at the edge of the clearing where they had made camp. Petch, I forgot my waterskin back by the campfire he thought and feeling completely backed into a corner, he knew he was being irrational, but to him it felt like a life or death situation.

Suddenly with no warning he sprinted to their campfire, grabbed the strap that held his waterskin, and slung it around his shoulder with his pack, before sprinting back to where he had been, leaping and rolling when he was a few feet from the parameter of the camp, just to do anything to distance himself from the hateful flame. Instantly springing to his feet, he ran through the woods, and didn't stop running till he could no longer hear the crackling of the fire, or anything else than his own heartbeat, and feet as they pounded the ground beneath him, and for what felt like several bells, he continued to run. He didn't even know if Ricky was even following him, but in that moment he didn't think of anything then simply running, running away from the all consuming fire, and running away from the pain he had caused. Nex didn't stop running until dawn broke over the horizon, and even from their he continued a determined but slow walk, still feeling the drive to keep himself as far away from that dreadful spot as he could manage, and he didn't stop his walking, and occasional sprint until the next night, finally stopping near a rocky over hang, and then collapsed against the ground where he stood, and crawled his way into the slight lip in created, and once he had crawled deep enough he laid still and fell instantly asleep confident he was hidden from all but the most probing eyes, concealed as he was underneath the rock. The nightmares waited for there, dreams of flames and things darker.

The Journey

Postby Ricky Maze on June 20th, 2011, 8:38 pm

It was strange to Ricky how Nex suddenly decided to run off, but the flames seemed to be dangerous after all. He had a moment to grab his sword and wipe it with a rag, but when he turned to the carcass behind him it was halfway engulfed. The smell of burning flesh and fur was horrid to him, and even worse the fire's were combining together. Odis started to bark a warning, and Ricky knew from the start what Odis was warning him. The fire was spreading, and Nex's instinct was to run.

When Nex came back for his water skin, Ricky had sheathed his sword and picked up Odis. The dog would be unable to run as fast as them, so Ricky would have to carry his travel pack and Odis while trying to get away. It was a good distance he made keeping up with Nex, but Ricky's stamina couldn't hold all the weight and keep a fast pace going at the same time; in short he easily fell behind and became separated. Nex was in fact gone, no doubt far ahead. Possibly even somewhere off the path they were originally on, but Ricky did not feel anger or regret for him doing so. Even though it was him and Odis now, they weren't too far from the gates. A day or so away at least, and if Ricky pushed himself he could make it.

He did without holding back anything, just as he did with the bear he pushed himself into that situation and pulled through until he made it. Upon his arrival the guards asked many questions, and though they had a difficult time believing Ricky's story they finally allowed him to pass: so long as he treated his and his dog's wounds. He gladly complied to that, and before he entered he looked back at the trail he traveled upon. Odis let out a small whine, wondering about Nex no doubt. Ricky felt ashamed that it had come down to this bitter departure; but he felt sure that one day he and Nex would see each other again.

After he finally got Odis to the doctor he sat down waiting for results, feeling quite comfy however he fell into a deep afternoon sleep.
