Nex went about helping Ricky heal Odis as best as he could, though mostly he was only keeping the poor animal steal while Ricky did what he could for him, and he sighed knowing that the dog was in pain because of his little move with the fire, which he still couldn't believe he did considering his dislike of it, and just blamed it on the spur of the moment. " It is no problem, the fire was a bit of a bad idea " He said slowly and softly, as if he was weighing each and every one of his words. Though Nex could understand everything Odis was saying he still felt bad that he had put him in such a position and when Ricky had finished bandaging him, Nex stood up, and stretched looking around for something, anything to distract his mind. His eyes came to rest on the carcass of the bear not to far from them, and the still burning stick resting on the ground, a small fire had been lit where it rested but the grass was still green so it hadn't spread too far at the moment, but the sight still froze Nex in his tracks.
The licks of flame reflected within his golden eyes and his first instinct was to run, run far away to somewhere much safer then this place. The dead bear, the fire, it was all making this present environment look that much unsafer to him. Steadily creeping to the side, he inched his way to his pack, and scooped it up, slinging it over his shoulder, and put on his shoes to make running with his supplies a lot easier, and slowly he inched his way back to Ricky, his eyes never leaving the small fire that was spreading, slowly licking up the side of the bear as well. " We should leave this place, and fast " he said in a hushed tone and his eyes flickered from their controlled fire to the uncontrolled one just before them, and suddenly both of the malicious sources of light where his enemies, his guilt for hurting Odis projecting on them, and wordlessly he edged even farther back till he was at the edge of the clearing where they had made camp. Petch, I forgot my waterskin back by the campfire he thought and feeling completely backed into a corner, he knew he was being irrational, but to him it felt like a life or death situation.
Suddenly with no warning he sprinted to their campfire, grabbed the strap that held his waterskin, and slung it around his shoulder with his pack, before sprinting back to where he had been, leaping and rolling when he was a few feet from the parameter of the camp, just to do anything to distance himself from the hateful flame. Instantly springing to his feet, he ran through the woods, and didn't stop running till he could no longer hear the crackling of the fire, or anything else than his own heartbeat, and feet as they pounded the ground beneath him, and for what felt like several bells, he continued to run. He didn't even know if Ricky was even following him, but in that moment he didn't think of anything then simply running, running away from the all consuming fire, and running away from the pain he had caused. Nex didn't stop running until dawn broke over the horizon, and even from their he continued a determined but slow walk, still feeling the drive to keep himself as far away from that dreadful spot as he could manage, and he didn't stop his walking, and occasional sprint until the next night, finally stopping near a rocky over hang, and then collapsed against the ground where he stood, and crawled his way into the slight lip in created, and once he had crawled deep enough he laid still and fell instantly asleep confident he was hidden from all but the most probing eyes, concealed as he was underneath the rock. The nightmares waited for there, dreams of flames and things darker.
