Basic Information Race: Human, Drykas Birthday & Age : Winter 474 AV, 39 years old Gender: Male Weight: 180lbs Height: 5'10" Eyes: Brown with gold flecks Hair: shoulder length light brown to blonde Physical Description Vanator's frame is well muscled, and he boasts exceptionally broad shoulders. Van sports very light brown hair that fades to blonde in the summer. His mane falls just past his shoulders. His skin is a light tan, bearing just a hint of golden warmth and marked by numerous scars. Van's eyes are a hazel, flecked with gold. His strong jaw is kept clean shaven, or thinly stubbled. The Denusk's face is rather youthful-looking for his age. Vanator walks with the prideful stride of an Ankal, and his movements are purposeful and sure. Van typically dresses in dark trousers of wool, cotton or leather, and shirts of blue or earth tones. He usually wears riding style boots, and on his right hand is a ring of black gold-flecked stone, the Denusk signet etched on its surface. Distinguishing Marks : Windmark - Drapes across his upper back and shoulders in a tribal pattern of sharp-tipped curves. Lakun Marks - Memorializing each wife he has lost. A leafy wreath for Tamar, a spear and ax crossed for Kashik and a snowflake for Khiara. Reimancy Scars - One in the palm of each hand and one over his heart. Kuvan Mark - A Riverfall Kuvan mark tattooed on the inside right wrist Others - Van's arms and torso bear several other non-descript scars, mostly from lion attacks. Character Concept Vanator is very Dyrkas-centric, but since moving into the Sanctuary, he has begun to broaden his perspective. It is from the Drykas perspective that he views most everything in his life. Life on the Sea of Grass is typically a short one, and so love, hate and other experiences are embraced with vigor and the lines between them blur. He is fiercely protective of his family and his people. Though mostly even tempered and friendly, his mood can swing to brooding, anger or ardor, all of which he exhibits with Drykas intensity. Van can display a subtle sense of humor, and has no issues enjoying a good time. Vanator has suffered a great many losses which, coupled with the gravity of his responsibilities, often taints his moods with a sober demeanor. Such sobriety can easily be dispelled by a good friend. Character History Vanator is the only son and heir of Eachann, the Ankal of the Denusk Pavilion of the Sapphire clan, by his first wife, Nadra. As a boy, he was healthy and strong spirited, all signs that the Pavilion was blessed. He was chosen by a Cyphrus Strider at a late age, but bonded quickly to the strong-willed animal. He was competitive, which perpetually irked him since his younger Konti half-sister, Akela, could almost always best him in a fight. The two were like brothers, brawling, racing and getting into trouble together. A lover of celebrations, roaming the grasslands and hunting, his parents began to pressure him to find a good wife and and bear an heir of his own. At the age of 25, Vanator finally gave in and courted a young woman from a neighboring Pavilion. Tamar was beautiful and gifted in herbalism, even at 17. She was fiery, a trait the Drykas male found most appealing, and the two fell madly in love and married. The depth of their love bode well for the pavilion, so the elder women of the family said. However, things for the Pavllion began to fall apart. Eachann's third wife, a Konti named Ay'aka, was thrown from her horse and killed. Ay'aka was a source of pride to the clan, having come and eradicated a severe horse plague with her medicine. She brought strength and joy to the family, her konti daughters believed to be omens of prosperity. Ay'aka's loss hit Vanator hard. Though the Konti wife often outshone his own mother, Ay'aka was like a second mother to him. Bad luck seemed to pursue the Pavilion. Though Vanator and Tamar were fiercely amorous, after five years Tamar had yet to bear a child. Then tragically, Tamar was suddenly killed during a Zith attack while gathering food. She and a few others had strayed too far from camp. Tamar's body was found, still clutching her long dagger, stained with Zith blood. The only solace for Vanator was that she had not been taken to be a slave or food for the vile creatures. Tamar's death devastated Vanator, who mourned for over a year. He no longer hunted with others of the Pavilion, choosing to go alone with the dogs or cats. With the support of his family, especially his youngest half-sister, Kavala, Vanator was able to move past the loss of Tamar. But the tragedy had scarred him. Much to his parent's consternation, He had no interest in finding another wife. The superstitious crones among the clan whispered that the daughters of Ay'aka had indeed brought bad luck to the Pavilion. Vanator firmly defended his sisters from such accusations. But bad things kept happening. Kavala left to study among the Konti in Mura. Her departure left Vanator without a trusted confidant. Akela became more distant as the clan became more and more suspicious of the affect of her presence on the Pavilion's fate. Though he tried to convince her otherwise, Akela too left camp to find something amid the dry dust to the south. Finally Vanator's Strider Zura died from a venomous snake bite. The Ankal's son had to ride a common mount until he was chosen by Backlash. So the brooding heir to the Denusk Pavilion carried on, helping his father lead their people, looking for signs of his sisters' return, roaming the plains. Post-Creation Summary 509 AV - Winter Vanator joins some friends on an ill-fated venture to Din to retrieve a stolen bow, they battle the Zith and barely escape alive. Vantor meets Hex during the adventure, later meeting Pygmy and Khiara near their caravan in the Sea of Grass. 510 AV - Spring Vanator becomes involved with Pygmy, Khiara and Hex, then meets Kashik. Eventually, Van proposes to Kashik, who accepts. Upon news of the pending marriage, Pygmy, Khiara and Hex leave Endrykas on separate paths. 510 AV - Summer Kashik and Van are married quietly, exchange vows privately before Cheva, and visit Kavala for the first time since she left the pavilion. Van and his sister have a falling out over his new wife, marring their reunion. Vanator is attacked by the Kelvic Mao, who is under Kavala's care. He agrees to help treat her, when it is discovered that she was infected by a parasite by a mysterious mage. Kashik and Van find a suicidal Khiara in Riverfall and take her under their wings. 510 AV - Fall Once Kashik is discovered to be pregnant with Van's child, the two agree to bring Khiara into their marriage, and Khiara becomes Vanator's Second Wife. Just prior to the ceremony, Vanator discovers that his Strider, Backlash, carried the soul of his slain first wife, Tamar. Van participates in some group hunts, including a olidosapux hunt and the discover of a colony of mischievous Pycons. Vanator meets Satu, a strange and beautiful Konti, while escorting a caravan. They share an intimage dance and a kiss. Late in the season, Vanator discovers that Pygmy had given birth to twin children by him, Larik and Cadra. Vanator's father rejects them as illegitimate, and Pygmy leaves with the infants. Backlash is killed on a hunt. 510 AV - Winter Vantor's life settles with his new family. 511 AV - Spring Vanator meets Irriari, a female Zith alone in the grass, and makes a deal to spar with her. She deals treachery by poisoning her claws, and in a fit of rage and vengeance, Vanator commits an atrocity against her. Kashik gives birth to Vanator's first legitimate son, Zivatar. 511 AV - Summer A young Drykas named Ronan kisses Khiara, Vanator settles matters by decking him. Vanator bonds with a new Strider named Nyx. Van's younger brother, Bolden Denusk, thought lost, returns. Vanator reveals to Bolden that he was indeed the man's father, born to Vanator's teenage sweetheart when they were only fifteen years old. Khiara becomes pregnant with her first child. 511 AV Fall - 512 AV Summer Vanator is captured in a Zith attack and enslaved, surviving the djed storm deep within the colony. A cruel mistress conducts experiments, conditioning Vanator to be aroused at the sight of intentional bloodletting. He becomes part of the Zith colony's ill-fated attempt to breed their own slaves. Vanator was forced into the role of stud, breeding with female slaves. The program failed. This torments him long after his release. Because he was no longer needed for breeding, and due to his strong will and his endless attempts to improve the plight of the slaves, Van was slated to be killed and eaten. His mistress insisted he be traded for more useful slaves, and Van was handed over to the human slavers of the Rattling Chains. Fall 512 AV - Fall Kavala buys Vanator out of the hands of the slavers and brings him to The Sanctuary. Five days later, Kavala discovers Pygmy's twins, Larik and Cadra, at the Rattling Chains and buys Vanator's children freedom as well. Vanator takes on the role of Armsmaster at the Sanctuary, and begins to stock an armory. Days later, a Zith horde attacks Kav and the herd in the field, then chase them to Sanctuary, where the attackers were finally defeated in a heated battle. Kavala initiates Vanator into Reimancy, and fire becomes his element. Vanator encounters his first Myrian, Razkar, whom he befriends. Ronan arrives as well, and Van finds that the man that had kissed his wife was dating his sister. Van meets a stray Strider stallion in the grass, and after fighting off lions, they bond. Adventures in the Sea of Grass also include freeing a woman from Zith captors, and another from a night lion. Vanator also befriends the Kelvic Raven Dust. 512 AV - Winter Vanator continues to train Sanctuary staff in fitness and combat, as well as hone his fire Reimancy. He participates in the Battle of the Bone Dogs and in repelling the snarlwing attack in Riverfall. 513 AV - Spring Vanator learns of the presence of a lost Denusk in the Sea of Grass, and is reunited with his cousin Delani Denusk. Their reunion is short lived, for Delani leaves shortly thereafter on an expediton across the sea to Syka. Late in the season, Vanator's past love, Sybel, arrives at the Sanctuary. 513 AV - Summer Sybel and Vanator's relationship rekindles and Van proposes marriage. Kavala reveals to Vanator the plans for the Cytali, and the likelihood that Vanator had a past life related to the group. Van and Sybel also take part in a patrol to defend an archeological dig site outside of Riverfall. 513 AV - Fall Vanator meets Caelum and the two become fast friends. Vanator takes part in the raid on Zith slavers that free the notorious "Raid Women" who resist the Akalak's Nakivak system. Van joins his friends and family at the BeautyFest and party.

After the death of her mother, Kavala finally left for Mura, Vanator took Kavala's departure hard, having counted her one of his closest friends. Once she returned to Cyphrus and founded the Sanctuary in Riverfall, The relationship between the siblings remained strained over several issues. Two years later, Kavala was the one who found Vanator at the Rattling Chains and bought his freedom. Now, the siblings share a close, loving relationship as they rebuild the Denusk family. Name: Caelum Relation: Friend Status: PC Caelum is Van's closest male friend. Vanator feels an odd kinship in that the Ethaefal's nightly form is a Drykas, the shape of a man who was an Ankal in a past age. Akela became a skilled swordswoman, and, after the death of her mother and Kavala's departure to Mura, she left the pavilion as well to travel Mizahar. Akela's whereabouts are unknown. Name: Delani Denusk Relation: Cousin Status: PC- Retired Kavala and Vanator's cousin who was raised as a sister after the loss of both her parents. She was believed lost with the rest of the pavilion during the Djed Storm, but she had survived and Vanator and she were reunited by chance in the Sea of Grass a year later. Delani did not linger long after the reunion, signing up to join the expedition to Syka that left mid-summer 513. Name: Tara Greenleaf Relation: Childhood Sweetheart Status: NPC Tara was Vanator's first crush. Just fifteen years old, the two of them believed they were in love and, consummating their affections, conceived a son. The pregnancy created a small political crisis, and in the end, the boy, named Bolden, was to be raised by Eachann and Nadra as Vanator's brother. Aweston, Head Groom of Sanctuary, is the son of Tara Greenleaf by her later husband. Tara is believed to be dead. Name: Pygmy (Dhanya) Relation: Friend/Children's Mother Status: PC-Inactive Pygmy was a Kelvic goat, the first Kelvic Vanator had ever met. Having first met when she strayed from a caravan, Pygmy later arrived in Endrykas and quickly latched onto Vanator. Over the season, their friendship teetered on something more, and a bond started to form, though Vanator, unfamiliar with bonding, did not realize it. When Vanator asked Kashik to marry him, Pygmy was crushed, leaving Endrykas, breaking the bond that had begun to form between them and insisting that he give her a new name. Vanator named her Dhanya. He did not know that she was carrying his twins, Larik and Cadra, whom Kavala delivered at The Sanctuary.
