Darian sat upon a stump, a white bone held easily between his thumb and forefinger, and braced against his thigh as he worked the small chisel in his hand against the hard surface, gradually forming a thing groove in the smooth surface. He was careful as he could be with the bone, his dragging motion across its surface slowly forming as perfect of a circle as he could manage. The line the tool was making was clean, and when he blew the bone shavings from its surface it looked even better still, and finally he met with the original groove he had started the whole thing with, completing the circle, and although it was a bit faint than for what he intended for it, it would do for now while he decided on what to shape into the center of the circle. Setting the small rabbits skull beside him, he looked over to the bloodied rabbit carcass by his left foot, blood still seeping slowly from its empty stub where it's head had been, and the pile of what had covered it's skull lying just before the body, all of it having been meticulously scrapped off by him before he even started the process of carving it's skull. " What did you enjoy doing in life " he asked the rabbit as he studied it's body, and remember the good bit of luck he had in catching the little creature that could have so easily evaded him. " Should have passed on that carrot boy " he said, a tisk, tisk noise emitting from his lips as if he was disappointed in the animal. Seemed as if it had been too easy to catch this rabbit, but that didn't mean it wasn't clever, just hungry at that point in time, so with that thought in mind he decided to carve something to do with the intelligence of the naturally clever beast and picked up the skull again this time cradling it in his lap.
Holding the chisel in both hands this time, he ran the edge of the iron just hard against the circular groove he had carved only moments ago, and continued tracing his previous marks with just enough pressure to make the circle more permeate against the skull but not hard enough to cave in the thin layer of bone, and thus ruin the entire piece. The effort kicked up even more bone shavings, and every once and a while he had to stop his careful work to blow the obstructions from the smooth surface just so he could finish the circle. In the end though, the circle turned out to be well formed and now possessed the appropriate, purposeful depth to it, and he could start on the center of it.
First, he lightly tapped the point of the chisel against the surface of bone, and gradually worked his way around inside of his small parameters, forming the basic outline of a rabbit and eventually the hole he would depict it hiding in to escape a predator. To him the rabbits legs seemed a bit longer than would seem natural, and it's head a little bit too circular, but he was trying his best, and simply couldn't stop a few mistakes from happening, and on the positive side the carving as a whole didn't seem to have any serious mistakes on it. Sticking his tongue out from between his teeth, he focused intently and slowly he made the marks deeper, and the image of a rabbit in hiding came clearer into view. However even with this much progress he still didn't stop until it showed in as much detail he could manage, a small slight crevice, and a rabbit hiding within it, and even had the appearance that the crevice was actually enveloping the rabbit in comforting arms, giving the carving a slight pop out look to it, and he smiled, satisfied that he was finally finished with it, at least he was finished with the brunt of the work. Taking a file out of the bloodied carvers pack at his side, he worked on smoothing the edges of the work, and making it look more three dimensional, carefully sanding down the bonier portions of the skull since this would be indeed be made into a necklace when he was finished.
Finally the work was refined to the limits of the structural integrity of the piece, and he set it down in favor of looking for some twine in his carving pack that he could use to make a make a pendant from the skull, and pulling out the length of twine from the package, he snipped it at what he deemed as the appropriate length, and set the rope beside the skull to be put into use soon. There was still one more thing he had to do, and with that he pricked the base of his thumb, drawing a drop of blood from it, and he smeared it against the top of the carving to activate his carving. Sighing, happy to at last have finished the work, he looped the length of twine delicately through the eye holes of the skeleton, and then put the necklace on over his neck, letting it rest there after a quick tie of the twine. Now with that out of the way, he knew it was time to get on with the rest of the day's events and see if the powers of the skeleton would manifest themselves at all or if his malediction worked at all. Putting up all his carving tools reverently he stowed the bundle inside of his pack, and began walking down a trail, paying no more attention to the bloodied rabbit carcass he left in his wake.
