Basic Information

Race: Human
Birthday & Age : XX/XX/485 AV
Gender: Male

Physical Description

Short and unassuming but the distinguishing features people refer to him by are his pitch black hair with grey streaks to complement them and his beautiful white teeth from his always smiling face. He likes his little games and when he waves at you to invite you for one, don't comment on the two missing fingers.

For those who always asksHeight is 4' 5"

Character Concept

"Life is just a game. There is not really any winning but that does not mean we want to lose either." To everyone else, Bob is just another one of those unwanted gambler types drifting from place to place looking to score some easy coin. But all that just hides his real work, information. Yes he is a spy and as a gambler-spy, Bob no longer sees the value of living by restricting himself within the boundaries of the law like everyone else but he lives by his own code. A code that whatever he does, he will never bring any serious trouble or harm to anyone.

Character History

Bob grew up with his uncle. His parents? As far as he knew, his parents died in a fire. All until he became 15 when his uncle told him the truth, his parents home was burnt down by creditors after his father for the gambling debts he accumulated. It was then his uncle also gave him a keepsake. The Barton Book of Gambling. A book from a line of great gamblers with each generation adding new gambling techniques and methods for their decendants.

Bob ended up in a life of distrust with his uncle and could no longer live with him. His whole life centered around learning and practicing the secrets in the book, something his uncle did not approve of. At 17 they both got into a heated disagreement on the book because Bob tried a ritual with one of the shifty individuals down the street to give him Reimancy. The argument ended in Bob some money he has been saving and leaving his home in Zeltiva.

After that Bob's life was all about moving from place to place learning about the world. And eventhough his passion was gambling he discovered another thing he loved, knowing everything else. At first he just talked to people in the taverns he gambled, in the streets he swindled, or maybe you. But after that he just came to know more and more until one day someone approached him to find out things. Things only he knew and was able to piece together. And these things? It was a heck of a lot more profitable than gambling.

11th day of Fall 506 AV

Image

Bob found himself in a high stakes game in one of the underground betting rings of Syliras. Higher than any someone of 19 would ever find himself in. The game was simple win back what his friend lost, or watch him die. Bob did not like the odds because there is a reason why this is the underground. The games are undoubtedly rigged more than even the legit ones. He should have just ignored the situation but when one of the others had told Bob what happened, he found himself running to help his friend.

Bob finally lost all his money so not only is his friend's life forfeit but he is also in debt. He pleaded for some extra time to get back the money but the men only scoffed as they said "We don't need your money. Not when we can charge people to bet on your deaths and make a killing." with the ugly smile on their faces reflecting whats in their hearts.

Bob knew these men were sadists, enjoying the suffering of others so he finally said "FINE! I bet a finger is worth ten times as much as whatever we owe you!" The leader only laughed and waved agreeing to the bet. Bob lost...twice...and after each time one of the leader's hired muscle would come with his cold iron sword and chop off yet another finger. Bob put on a brave face. He knew that each time he lost he is only getting closer to victory. After all, how long can they keep up calling the correct number?

A woman beat him to the die on his third try picking up the dice. Before giving it to him she held it in her hands which made the dice glow in a faint blue light. One of the thugs shouted at her "Oi, wot 'r ya doin dere?" Her partner stepped out in reply "Just giving the boy a chance' and the woman nudged Bob as she whispered 'Go on, hurry before they change their mind." Bob didn't know what to make of this new pair but he put his hopes on them and rolled the dice.

As he rolled the dice Bob kept screaming for a six but when the dice finally stopped, it only showed a two. Then man in dismay said "Well now...thats embarrassing sister. What now?" while he held down the hand Bob wanted to give up the other finger. Because the dice prediction was also wrong for the ring, the leader stood up and shouted pointing at the trio "What the hell did you do to our dice you dirty cheats? GET THEM!"

The woman acted fast, doing another pointless action when she snatched a nearby deck of cards and pressed on them creating a cloud of flying cards. As the cards flew one by one each became a giant wasp which are just as big until they formed a swarm and attacked the first thing they were heading towards, the leader of the ring before they moved on to sting everyone else. At the sounds of the screams and squeals the man said "Why did you have to do that sister? All you did was make things worse." but the woman said nothing, grabbing both Bob and his friend by the wrist and leading them out of the door. Her brother following behind them as they escaped the scene.

They ran for minutes and stopped only when they were sure no one else was following them. The minute of silence for them to catch their breath was broken with Bob "Your magic didn't work too? I've been trying mine the whole game but I think that they have one of their own magically loading the dice already." When he looked back at the pair, the woman was holding out her hand to Bob which he looked at questioningly. She asked Bob with a smile on her face "It doesn't hurt to have more friends right? Friends help one another, like you did" Bob understood and gripped her hand to shake it then she elbowed her brother before the brother also sighed and gripped their hands. Covered by the sibling's hands, light began to escape in between the cracks like the dice scaring Bob a little and after they were done shaking, Bob noticed that a tattoo of flying cards started appearing on he hand he lost his fingeres.

Then the man grabbed hold of the woman's shoulder and said "Kel, its time for us to get going isn't it?" Kel turned back to Bob "Goodbye Bob, we'll be watching you from now on. Lets go Wyn." and started walking off. Wyn following her told Bob "Never forget what what happened today Mr.Gambler." and Bob could only look at them in surprise asking "W-Wh-Who are you people? How did you know my name?" which was only mockingly replied by Wyn "We're your friends Kel-Wyn. Good luck with the mark Bob, you are going to need it."

Jinsen

Image

Bob might not be getting much from his crappy job at Killroy's Kennels but he did get something just as good as mizas. His loyal companion Jinsen though not from Killroy himself but one of his subordinates. How the dog lived in Sunberth still is a mystery to him because it just loves and trusts everyone. Even Darik! With time and experience with animals probably one day Bob can get this from a face slobberer to a gut ripper when he needs to but until then he will settle for it as a distraction in a fight. Failing that it can always earn its keep looking around for treasures that his master likes to collect.

Effects increase in a choice of...
  • speed
  • power/impact
  • control and range
Notes:
  • Fire Reimancy on the slingshot is the more effective element
  • Spell must fit and be fired from the slingshot to be effected
  • Spells fired from the slingshot take more djed than normal

Cursed? Five of Swords

Image
Obtained in: Treasures of the Sea

In a visit to his hometown in Zeltiva and one of the more interesting stores in it, Bob met another person marked by the twin gods Kelwyn. More importantly he stumbled on a very attractive deck of cards. Apparently it belonged to an old konti fortune teller and has a long history of people succumbing to some curse it carried if they dared to take the whole deck with them. Taken in by some of Raleaph's words and "promises" Bob decided to take just the one card that kept appearing for him and one day claim the whole thing for himself once he found out more about the curse and how to lift it.

Effects:
When a person has this card with him, he will be urged to act with brashness and selfish ambition that will hurt many people. And while this may lead the holder to temporary victory, it will cause those around him to alienate him.

Uncle Marny

Image

Stationary NPC in Zeltiva

Because where would Bob be without his dear old Uncle Marny? Its a scary enough thought. The man might be a little bit strange but he was quite competent in medicine which was enough to make a living and bring up Bob.

  • 30 in medicine for his primary job
  • 10 in herbalism to know what plants are good
  • 5 in philtering to make his own medicine
  • 5 in poisoning to identify poisons
