Closely trimmed beard and medium length hair. On his back he has a tattoo, an intricate map of Mizahar surrounded by elaborate patterns – faintly reminiscent of Drykas windmarks. Character Concept Emeric is generally very quiet, content to remain in silence for prolonged amounts of time. He is wary of everyone, although not enough to be classed as paranoia. He has a keen mind, but due to no education to speak of he knows very little of the world. He is often curious about the people and their actions in lives completely different to his own. Emeric’s harsh upbringing has left him very wary of the gods, however it has left him with an indomitable will for survival – on his own terms. He is slow to accept help because of this, and often prefers to practice skills on his own. Up until now he has solely looked out for himself, but deep inside he has had a growing ambition to have some direction in life – a cause or quest that he can believe in. Emeric judges people on instinct, rather than a code which is forced upon him by society, race or religion. He has no qualms about killing, or even torturing as long as he can justify it in his own mind. One of the few things Emeric enjoys, and has kept from his time in slavery was music. He carries a lyre with him on most of his travels and will whittle away long journeys and sleepless nights by playing it. His innate ability on horseback has led him to being very happy riding, even over long periods of time. Emeric is extremely wary of the gods, believing them all to be tricksters. He is most strongly opposed to slavery, and finds it extremely difficult to allow it to continue in his presence. Character History As a young boy he awoke in the desert with no memory of what came before, or of who he was. After days of wandering he found himself in Hai, drinking from the Well when he was set upon by a pair of Grists. He ran and hid and silently prayed for help – whereupon the Twins of Last Resort appeared to him. They berated the boy, claiming if he ran as hard as possible he could escape, however he pleaded with the ethereal figures to help him and they conferred with each other, returning to the boy with cryptic smiles they told him they could take him “somewhere else”. He frantically accepted, not heeding their warning that he could still escape. When he next awoke it was in darkness, in a slavers cell in Sunberth. After some initial confusion the slaver accepted the boy as his property, and named him Emeric – to replace a slave who had died in the cells several nights earlier. The boy was sold to a High Ranking member of the Ebonstryfe in Ravok. After being branded with the half sun, beaten and threatened Emeric accepted his new life. For the first few years of slavery he was confined to the estate, where he was kept as an assistant for the cooks and cleaners. Speaking rarely, and always accomplishing his tasks diligently he was slowly given more and more responsibility within the estate. The master of the estate commanded Emeric to learn to play the lyre, so as to entertain him and guests during mealtimes. As Emeric grew, thoughts of escape plagued his mind more and more. However he knew pragmatically that there was no chance of escaping the city before he would be found and executed. To vent his frustration he spent his nights teaching himself how to fight. Watching from the windows as the guards sparred, and replicating their moves with a knife he took from the kitchen. He would keenly observe the most subtle of actions and spend hours repeating them. Often he was called upon to serve his master on his travels, where he was required to ride behind the main carriage and attend his master. He took to riding very naturally, and tried to learn as best he could the mechanics of driving a carriage. ![]() Sixteen years after his enslavement began an assassin from a rival within the Ebonstryfe breached the defences of the estate and assassinated Emeric’s master. Sensing his opportunity, he took what he could from the estate and disappeared into the night. He commandeered a boat and after a large amount of difficulty navigating found himself on the shores of a local trading post. He enlisted quickly with a merchant caravan as a guard and travelled with it to Nyka and beyond. He has spent the last two years travelling in the large caravan, honing his skills with a blade and searching for a cause or quest...
