[Syliras Location] Recruitment Office

"You would like it even more if you would have me an your recruit."
Exchanging pleasantries was a must in any social interaction and Bolivar didn't mind exchanging a few words with the man. His past service warranted that much respect at the very least. "Ahh I should not have even mentioned it! A debacle all of my doing." Waving his hand dismissively Bolivar's head mirrored the motion before gathering up the nerve to come clean.

"While entering your city for the first time I made a major mistake." His mind went back to the archers in the parapets that lined the city. "Wanting to test myself against the opponents of your land I engaged myself in a duel with a few citizens." Recalling his brash and in retrospect naive thinking Bolivar continued his small conflict with the knights. "Everything seemed fine until I tried to make some space with my mastery of wind djed." Images of the crossbowmen suddenly firing on him came to mind. "I was lucky to emerge alive from my ignorance."

Breathing out hard Bolivar shook his head disagreeing with his decision that day. "Though looked down upon in my city I would not have been reprieved as swiftly and harshly like here in Syliras." His eyes showed no displeasure at the events that day but rather it was curiosity and a new resolve that spurred Bolivar on. "My actions that day showed how little of the world I understand. Syliras is not like the city I grew up in and that's exactly why I want to stay here and serve as a knight. Train me under your meticulous ways. Show me what it feels like to truly serve the land." Placing his hands on the table Bolivar bowed his head in reverence before asking once more. "If you would have me. Bolivar Dynamicgear of the Coglias clan is at your disposal."

Emboldened and pleased by the Knight's response, Verlin smiled and stood even straighter as his thoughts went back to the constant presence of the Knights in the fields. "Well, Sir, I've always felt safe. Even though the wilderness is full of terrors, natural or not, I never lost a moment of sleep worrying about our homes or safety. Also the Knights have never lied to us or not delivered on something they promised to us. While I could still be in the fields, I would like to live my life by such a code."

"As far as skills, I did get to watch them spar on occasion. I saw them using shields, but I have never used one myself. Like I say, if given the chance, I will dedicate myself to training and living as a Knight, until such time that you decide I am worthy of the title." Verlin felt stalwart in his convictions. He also felt that he was doing well, but an interview was only that. He was prepared to work hard for this.

Ser Erik listened to the man's story and was a bit amused, but only a bit. Why the young were so reckless and quick to jump into a test of strength and dominance, he didn't know. Of course to be young was to be foolish, and he had been young once himself. But it wasn't the worst he had heard from someone looking to join up. The veteran Knight studied the boy for a few ticks, taking in his words and allowing them to settle in mind.

He flipped through his desk suddenly and found a clean form to use to take down the boy's information. But he didn't write just yet, instead he wanted to asked him a bit more. "You seem new to the city, if you are excepted is there any place that you would like to spent your days? I'm taking a guess here, but you probably don't have a patron in mind?"

Verlin Ranes
He liked this kid, and being that he was of the city, it was easier to see why he wanted to protect it, more so than people coming from other parts of the world. Not that it was a bad thing, only an observation by a man with a muse. "The outpost is somewhat full I think, and we have Knights that change routes to and from the city, would that be something we could trust you with...if you're not needed in the outpost?"

Verlin's eyes probably grew to the size of ale mugs with the mention of being a Knight. "Sir, any task given to me by the Knights would be my honor and duty to uphold. To be honest, though, I probably need some training first. I am surely not of Knight worth right now. Maybe in my heart, but surely not in any sort of fight. I'm sorry if I sound ignorant, but I guess I am."

Verlin looked at his feet for a moment. He wasn't ashamed. He just didn't understand how things worked outside of what he had seen around him. Looking back up at the venerable Knight, he continued. " I know I am probably a fish out of water, not being born into it like the families of Knights are. But I will do whatever it takes to become a Knight. I can work hard and I can learn. I've never cheated anyone or lied to anyone. Maybe my brother sometimes." His eyes drifted away as he thought of dear Pietren.

Looking back once more, he dropped to one knee before the Knight. "Please Sir, I'm just asking for a chance to prove myself."

"I do have a position in mind if that is what you mean. Nightwatch I would feel more in my element then others would when the sun sets and only darkness remains. Though I know not of the brave men who also serve in these hours. Does anyone come to mind when one speaks of the nightwatch?"

oocSorry if it's short.

Ser Erik nodded to the young man and picked up his pen. "Yes, well you will get plenty of training, of that you can be sure." He moved to the parchment and wrote down the man's information of what he had learned. "Well I see no reason to deny your entrance into squirehood. Report to the camp at the outpost and see Ser Maria Constance, she will be your patron."

Bolivar

"Ser Bradshaw Therdon comes to mind. He is a good teacher and is a bit critical of new comers from outside the city. I think he would do you well." After another glance towards the man, the Knight took down his information and sent him off. "You can find him at the docks in the late evenings, he will tell you what to do next."

"Right. Thanks for your time Ser Erik." Letting out a satisfied breathe Bolivar nodded in understanding of what he meant. That meant he was going to be harsh but probably a fair patron. A perfect fit for the somewhat ignorant Isurian bred mixed blood. Few we so lucky. "Right-o. Then I shall be on about it then. Good day."

[Syliras Location] Recruitment Office

Postby Zsshirshavira on March 28th, 2013, 7:10 pm

Unlike many of the potential candidates that would walk through the doors into the Recruitment Office of the Syliran Knights, Zsshirshavira knew what she wanted, knew what she was signing up for, and believed whole-heartedly in the way of the Knights. Her life in the caves of Zinrah was much different than her past week in Syliras had been. For one, she'd not had to kill her own food in order to survive. That was a change she both liked and disliked, for the way of the Dhani was the way of the hunt, yet another part of her was glad for the freedom from having to find and kill prey. It gave her time to dwell on other things, and in many ways, she was discovering herself more than ever before.

She had studied well the history of the Knights, and found their cause to be a just one. The management and protection of the innocent. In a way, her interest in joining was laughable. After all, she was Dhani, not human. She was of the brutal lifestyle of Zinrah. Much innocent blood was on her hands...perhaps too much to consider joining. She turned and prepared to leave...

In that moment of doubt, Vira closed her eyes and prayed to the god Yahal for strength. Whether the god answered her prayer or not, the silent utterance made her feel better and served to steel her nerves.

Just remember, nothing about Zinrah, and use as few 's' sounds as possible, she thought to herself. Vira's act as a human was nearly flawless, thanks to her observation of ordinary folk in the streets. Her common speech was good, but she would occasionally slip into a snakelike hiss.

She took a deep breath, and opened the door in front of her.

"Ahem. I wasss told to come here for recruitment. My name isss Vira, and I would like to be a Knight." She said quietly, drawing her black cloak closer around her shoulders, and brushing long bangs from her face, meeting the Knight's eyes with her own icy blue ones. She spoke very slowly, cradling each word with her tongue as if it were glass that she were fearful of breaking. Vira hunched, trying to make herself seem somewhat shorter, as six feet tall was pushing it for a normal woman. She dearly hoped he would only see her as a shy, if somewhat tall, human girl, and take her lisp to be a mundane speech impediment.

[Syliras Location] Recruitment Office

Postby Cyrus Blackfire on April 2nd, 2013, 2:47 am

10th of Spring, 513 AV

It had only been a day since Cyrus had arrived in Syliras yet instead of scoping out the land he had decided to head straight to the Recruitment Office of the Syliran Knights. It seemed like a good idea to get it out of the way as fast as possible, joining the knights, it was the reason he had come here after all. Their history of defending order was supposedly long and storied, so far from what little he had seen he was not disappointed. Cyrus appreciated order in all aspects, and though his ideal order had yet to be realized the Knights of Syliras seemed to reflect many ideal he held true to his heart. The only thing they seemed to lack was the ruthlessness it took to bring more under that order, ah well, nothing was perfect.

The tall muscular man had opted to wear his armor and to keep his greatsword attached to his back, hopefully it would help with impressions. He had also decided to keep his knowledge of magic on a need to know basis, he also reminded himself that no one needed to know. All he would be today was a well armed and armored warrior who possessed a healthy respect for the knights.

Cyrus strode into the office in front of him, his expression stern and controlled for the rather military occasion. He looked to the aging knight who he took to be the recruiter and came to a crisp attention, something he'd been practicing most of the journey to Syliras. The armored warrior also made sure to make and maintain eye contact, as he found it was often a good way to show that he had nothing to hide.

When he spoke his tone was rich and gave a slight feeling of authority, though nothing especially incredible.

"Ser Knight, I was informed to come here if I intended to join the Syliran Knights." Cyrus said, inclining his head slightly to the knight as a show of deference.

Ser Erik had found the latest of the season to be very busy, with people arriving from all over the world to join the Knights. While they were welcome to do so, he would always hold to the truth of the Knight and the way of their lives. Thieves and cutthroats looking to trick their way in were not allowed and would always be found out before they were knighted. He nodded to the girl that entered and listened as he always did. "Isss Vira? Well you have come to th right place, this is the employment office." He smiled towards her then returned to a more serious face as he spoke. "There was a young person who came in days ago, they wanted to join the Knights because it looked fun, what's your reason?"

Cyrus Blackfire

The patron had noticed this man the moment that he stepped into the room. It was rare that older people looked to join the Knights, and while it wasn't against the rules, it was interesting to see. The older showed more experience, but they were also set in their ways which made it harder to train their minds. Either way showed it's own obstacles, but Ser Erik was hopeful. "Well here you are, standing in the employment office to join the knights. You've made it this far, and good for you. Now who you are and why you want to join the Knights is what I'd like to hear now."
