Well he hadn't been thrown out of the office, that was a good sign. Cyrus briefly pondered how best to answer the question, wondering if it would be a good idea to mention he was from Ravok. It could go either way there, he knew how the city worked which would probably be an asset but that would also raise suspicions. Deciding that it would be worth the risk he opted to tell the knight, they probably had ways of finding out where he was from any way, best to be up front about it.

"I am Cyrus Blackfire of Ravok. I grew up under the shadow of the Black Sun and Rhysol, their chaotic goals disgusted me so I left. I want to join the Knights to improve my skills and because I have great respect for the order you promote here. I am good with a blade and have led men against the odd bandit raid, I would place those skills at your disposal Ser." The man said, matching the knight's gaze.

Hopefully he would see the use of having Cyrus in the Knights, a man who knew the ways of Ravok would be very useful. Especially considering his deep seated loathing of the God of Evil and his servants.

Here it was, everything unfolding out just as she hoped it would. Yahal be praised, she thought. Blind faith was very rewarding when it turned out the way you wanted it to.

Vira snorted softly after the Knight finished speaking. Foolish children, attempting to join the Knights for fun. She was not one of them, and would not be counted among their number.

"I-I have come here seeking out a better life, where I may help others and protect the innocent. And I come here not jovial, but ssolemn in that regard."
She said quietly. She was having trouble meeting his gaze directly, it was so intense, but she did her best to hold her ground. Best to show she had a spine, elseways the Knights would never respect her as one of their own. Were she in her true form, she might not have been so nervous, but cloaked in the flesh of humans she was out of her element, her confidence wavering somewhat.

"The Knights all have qualities I admire, and I would join your causse to serve, if you would have me." She said slowly, finally standing up straight and tall. If she was to have any hope of being a Knight, she needed to project inner strength.

Ser Erik was surprised at the man's confession, and that he was straight forward about it, did say something about him. "Ravok?, we have had our problems with them in the past. They are troublesome to be sure. I am glad that you chose to be honest about it, but I must tell you that with your background being a squire might be harder for you and others who are nave to these lands. Would you be able to handle that, and how would you?"

Zsshirshavira

Ser Erik nodded as the woman spoke, she didn't appear to be lying, or reason for mistrust. But he did notice the slight hiss in her words. "I'll tell you, we've had many squires join our ranks recently, and I've been hearing stories about them misbehaving and asking like fools to be honest. If you saw this, how would you handle it, what would you do?"

Well the knight hadn't ordered Cyrus to be hauled away, which was quite a good sign. He nodded to the knight's question, it was fair of him to ask as he needed to get a feel for potential recruits and their skills. Cyrus had already known that becoming a knight would be a very difficult process for him, due to the city of his birth. He wanted this however, it was a chance to improve on his skill and to serve an order he respected, at least for a time before his ambitions brought him elsewhere.

"I understand that I will face more difficulty than your average recruit Ser, but I am willing to overcome this adversity to become a knight. As for how I would deal with it, I would use reason and exercise temperance over violence if that is what you are asking. The sign of a good warrior is the use of restraint, and I believe myself to be at least a decent warrior, Ser." Cyrus answered, his words articulated and well thought out.

"With this in mind I ask you Ser, is there a place for one such as me in the Knights of Syliras?" The warrior asked.

Cyrus hoped the answer was yes, that the knight would see that the benefits of having him with the order outweighed the risks.

Apparently, inept, unqualified squires were a big problem for the Knights nowadays. Vira thought for a moment on Ser Erik's question. How WOULD she handle such undisciplined fools? Well, there was a time when the answer would have been quick to come to her mind. In Zinrah, if there were fools that were not to be tolerated, they were quickly beaten into submission by her. Her status as a large female meant that few Dhani questioned her, save for her elders.

Syliran Knights would certainly not approve of such violent treatment, and neither would Vira, having 'turned over a new leaf' so to speak.

Nearly a minute would pass silently as she contemplated.

"...I suppose it would depend upon the nature of their foolishness. Were it something not overtly harmful to another, or disssturbing the peace, I would most likely speak to them about the error of their ways." Vira said, pursing her lips. "If they did not heed me, I would seek aid from a Ser Knight, as it is not my place to dole out punishment, but rather a matter for more experienced Knights to handle."

"Discipline problems are best ssolved through peaceful communication and a calm disposition, so as to avoid needlessly essscalating the situation." She finished, blushing slightly at the close attention she was being paid by the observant Knight.

Okay, so not using 's' sounds in Common was more difficult than she'd thought. Nevertheless, she was satisfied with her answer, for it was truly how she felt, and hoped Ser Erik was as well.

"Well I think we might have a place for you, but I want to ask you a few more things first. One is, during your time in Ravok, what did you learn?" It wasn't a normal question he asked of recruits, but this man was from enemy territory and it seemed to fit. "I'm also curious to know what type of fighting have you done if any?"

Zsshirshavira

The Knight nodded as she spoke, finding her answers to be a bit more to his liking than some of the others that had boldly walked through his office. "I am glad to see squires with a passion for the order and wanting to get out and serve. But one must remember that they are only squires, un knighted and do not hold the same level of rank." He looked the woman over again, hoping that she too would remember his swords. "Do you have any sort of combat training?"

Cyrus nodded at the knight's questions, they were fair to ask considering the city he hailed from. It was probably not every day that a person born under the shadow of the Black Sun came seeking entry into the Knights of Syliras. No doubt thay had needed to weed out spies before, so it was natural that the knight needed to size him up.

"The Black Sun rules over all of Ravok with an iron fist, any who question their rule are silenced by the Ebonstryfe, the militant branch of Rhysol's church. Resistance groups are ruthlessly hunted down and dealt with, as are those who speak out against the God of Evil. From an early age I was taught that obedience to Rhysol and his disciples was paramount, that it was better to remain silent than to meet your end on an Ebonstryfe sword. Though I suspect you already know this, ser." Cyrus explained at length.

"I left the city about a month or so back and travelled with a caravan for some time. We encountered many bandits along the way, I led some guards in battle against them. Nothing really major." Cyrus finished.

Vira gave a slight smile as he asked her about any formal combat training she'd had. NOW she was in her element. The young Dhani woman could speak of fighting and combat all day, whereas metaphysical speculations and talks about morality were somewhat foreign to her.

"Yes, I do. I've wanted to join for a long time prior to my visit here, and made sure I was at the very least slightly proficient with sword and shield. I can ride, too, though not very well."
She rattled off in perfect Common. She was starting to find her stride with the language, and was no longer extending her s's so much.

"In addition to those basic skills, I am more than proficient in the exquisite art of grappling and wrestling." At this, a touch of pride colored her voice. Vira had worked hard to get as good at wrestling as she was, and was not afraid to say so.

"I have very little experience with armor, though, and I know it to be one of the main criteria for all Knights to massster." She finished somewhat sheepishly, brushing her long bangs from her face.

"Well I suspected as much, or even worse really, but never mind that. I don't really see a reason to send you away." He paused as he found his trusty qull and ink. The old knight browsed the table until he was able to find more parchment and unrolled it for use. "Is there anyone in the city to speak for you, a knight perhaps, or are you standing alone?"

Zsshirshavira

"You seem combat ready, you look to me an outsider. The type that prefers to be outside the city walls instead of patrolling on the inside. What do you say? depending on your answer I will find a patron to train you."

Cyrus had just arrived in the city, so unfortunately he had yet to establish an contacts in the city. He hoped that it would not prove to be too much of a stumbling block in joining the knights, however one never knew. Even the smallest of nuisances could affect the greatest of things.

The warrior slowly shook his head, "Unfortunately I have only just arrived in Syliras so I know of no one willing to speak for me, ser. Will that be an issue?"

He would be supremely frustrated if such a thing would prevent him from joining the knights, however it was understandable considering his origins. Perhaps it was merely a formality to have someone speak for you, or it could be some major oversight on his part. Though judging from the way that the man was holding the ink quill it probably was not a major issue. He would have probably asked the question before touching the items if the question was regarding something overly important. Cyrus felt his confidence returning at this logical conclusion, all the while keeping a calm exterior.
