Early Summer 511, AV
She'd been out for a walk when she saw the firestarter dancing among the plants in a stone garden. Haeli paused, watching the man, uncertain what he was actually doing. She'd quietly paused, moving under a rather large overgrown Rhododendron that was more tree than shrub in its size. The girl touched it gently, as if to reassure the brightly flowered tree that she would not let the reimancer harm it, before turning once more to gaze at the man.
Truthfully, she was at a loss as to why he was making fire. It was a warm summer and there was very little need of flame unless one cooked food, and then he'd gathered no wood. Haeli knew magic, about djed, and while she'd never seen anyone make fire, she'd certainly knew it was perhaps possible. When a slight girl could become an enormously large and dangerous croc or a sleek bird, one's eye was open to new possibilities.
She watched, curious, and only slightly worried about the garden. When he switched from fire to blade, she continued watching, wondering if the city watch would be upset or stop to question him. When he turned, sensing or seeing her in the shade beneath the rhododendrum tree, she shook her head and stepped out.
Speaking on common she said. "I'm sorry but I don't speak Lhavitian. Do you know Common?" If he looked aggressive, it wouldn't take her long to leave. No, Haeli knew how to run, definitely. AS she stepped out, the stranger would notice she wasn't dressed like the other Lhavitans. Instead, she had plain clothing on, almost impoverished looking, a simple shift belted at the hips with no shoes to speak of on her feet. And she moved as if she didn't notice she was dressed differently, poorly, in comparison.
