If ever there was a model citizen of Lhavit, it would have been Haeli in the guise of a jaguar. She marched along at Emeric's side, halting when he halted and giving everyone a friendly look as they passed by. When he paused at the gates, she sat down like a loyal hound waiting patiently and eying the guards thoughtfully.
Lhavit was different when viewed with the eyes of a Jaguar. Smells assaulted her and she kept her eyes roaming around, taking in the bright colors that were in so many fewer shades than an actual human saw. Glowing skyglass buildings rose to the sky as people moved from one place to another, one task to another enjoying their lives.
Her city. Her place. Haeli surveyed the street like it was her territory, for it was, and resisted the urge to reach up on the nearest wall and scratch her claws down it to mark the place as belonging to her. Emeric wouldn't understand and nor would the guards he was busy trying to charm.
Haeli took in Emeric's scent as well as those around the city, something she couldn't do as a human. He smelled like leather and cloth, slightly of sweat, and the oil he used to care for his armor. There was a metallic allure mixed with a male scent that she set in her mind if she never needed to look for him in a crowd. But unlike the buildings he was fair game for the marking. Hers. At least for that day - that hunt. Haeli reached out and ran her jawline across his knee, gently, leaving her scent on his clothing from the gland at the base of her jaw. To the guards it would look like tame affection.
To something wild, there would be no mistaking her staking her claim.
When he was ready she'd set off through the gate with him, delicately stalking along at his side, only taking the lead when they were past the guards. Only then did she start bounding like a child, excited to be away from the city and into the wilds. Her joy was tangible, almost infectious, as if she saw all sorts of wonder in the world around her. At first she paced circles around him, playfully batting at hanging tree limbs and flowers growing up in the grass along the road. There was a lot of energy built up from her sedate life in the civilized world.
