The Treasure Chest Located near the smithy is the jewelery shop. On the outside, as is typical of Black Rock's architectural style, the building is simply one in another row of marble buildings that look like tombs. The inside, however, is quite different. With painted pictures on the wall, framed in glass and wood, and little cases showing what has been made and is available for sale (or perhaps simply on display), the Treasure Chest is a homey, comfortable store. Meike Rose, the proprietress, took over the jewelery shop from her former master, Eric Todd upon his death when his grandchildren wanted no part in it. The man's ghost instructed her to take it over, if she would, because he wanted to make sure that it continued and didn't get turned into something else entirely. In return, she could keep it, and he would stick around to make sure she managed and continued to learn. Of course, Meike agreed. To this day, Meike runs the jewelery shop of Black Rock for her ghostly former teacher. She never carries a large inventory, but does sport a number of little treasures as well as doing custom work. She often has rare stones from the Falyndarian jungle, courtesy of Myrian traders, or some of the most delicate, rainbow-hued pearls to be found by the Charoda. Her personal style tends to be more on the eclectic side of things, enjoying wire and chunky, albeit polished, stones, and enjoys doing custom work. For prices and items, check the Price List. Meike is open to bartering, but likes to collect in Ashl or the other Falyndarian currencies. The NPCs Secret : Meike Rose: Master Jeweler, Proprietress Black-haired and violet-eyed, Meike is young, single, and prides herself on artistic creativity. She is an islander born and bred, and took an interest in making jewelry from a young age, working with thread, hemp, and wooden beads. She is one of the few outsiders to actually visit Taloba and actually receive a warm reception. She took over the shop from Eric Todd, who still likes to hang around and oversee her efforts. Friendly, quirky, and unabashedly different in style, she has the morbid humour streak that many of the islanders consider their hallmark. Eric Todd: Former Owner, Jeweler Eric started the Treasure Chest as a young man, and despite raising a number of children with his wife Teresa, none of them ever had any interest in going into the business that their father had established. He tried a few apprentices that didn't stick around for too long, until he took Meike under his wing. He continued to teach her until his death, and hung around out of concern for what would happen to his life's work, and the fact that Meike was not ready to run the place on her own, and she still had plenty left to learn... well, Eric simply couldn't just leave her to it, now, could he? He hangs around and offers advice and tips for his successor.
