Appearance: Haraza has always been lucky. His boyish features have always gave him a charm that went well with his storytelling. Haraza's facial hair is never very thick, so cutting it has never been something he worried about more than rarely. The thin grizzled feature the facial hair add give him an extra appeal, chiseling his boyish looks somewhat. His smile is usually cocked to the side, his eyes warm and charming.
Haraza's frame is thin and small but he was relatively muscular, a life of hunting has given him that. His muscles, however, are more tensile that bulk, and thus he often is underestimated and looks weaker than he is. Still, this gives him an nonthreatening appearance that tends to make people more comfortable around him. |
Personality
Character Concept: Haraza is a storyteller, right down to his soul. He loves entertaining others, causing people to laugh or cry at his words. He isn't manipulative, though, he's simply good-natured about experiences. Each story comesd with it unique emotions and thoughts that you can't get from anywhere else. It's a part of being alive. Haraza just wants to share that with people. connect them with his words.
In many ways Haraza is an idealist. He truly believes every action, good or bad, is important. They each have side effects, emotions, and new ideas springing forth from them. More than you could possibly hope to understand. So rather than worry, he just lives the best he can. Haraza doesn't let stress melt him. Life is good.
Personal Opinion: Haraza is very humble, now that he left Avanthal. While he doesn't show it too well anymore, he takes great pride in his stories and the emotions it gives the listeners. Haraza used to take the same pride in his hunting, but has lost his feelings about it the last couple of years. He now treats hunting as something much more personal, just him and the world (and usually Hanno). Still, of himself Haraza considers little, just a man trying to leave some more good in the world.
Appearance to Others: Haraza is typically very good at being charming. His smile and personality invite people to relax, get more comfortable. Haraza acts quiet most of the time, but if you get him telling stories he can talk the night through. A lot of his quiet act is just about respect, however. He knows how he can get to talking and wants to give the other person a chance to speak first. Still, in the end he greatly enjoys having people listen to him and enjoy themselves and will do what he can to make you laugh, cry, or just have a good time. |
Background
Getting a Life: Haraza was much more head-strong as a youth, believing himself the charmer of guests with stories and women with his good looks alike. His attitude earned him more than his fair share of disdain and annoyance from others, maybe even a rival or two. A show-off with his hunting skills and a natural storyteller, many found Haraza to be just too full of himself, too prideful.
It was a lucky day on his 17th birthday when he met Azuria. A Skyglow by hold and nearly 2 years older than him, she did not appreciate his bull-headed antics. She again and again turned away from his advances, sometimes downright insulting him. Azuria though Haraza was a child, a man who acted tough for his friends who needed a reality check. Haraza thought she was wonderful, an independent and strong Vantha woman who refused the suitors arranged by her parents and wouldn't let her own morals be crossed, wouldn't submit. But Azuria thought him a jerk. Haraza was crushed. He'd never been scorned or turned down like this, so he sought to fix it.
For every week he had spent courting Azuria, Haraza spent two hunting, taking long expeditions to track prey great distances. Azuria thought he had given up, but in reality he was contemplating. Trying to figure out who he was and what was important. When he returned to the Hold it was for hours at a time, leaving quickly for more. His self-imposed isolation really forced him to grow up.
Haraza finally came back almost a year later. He spent most of the spring proving himself by just enjoying her company. She turned him down many times at first, but the more time she spent with Haraza the more Azuria noticed he had changed, noticed that this man was a very different person than the boy she had turned down the previous years. She began to grow not to hate him, and soon that flourished into something more.
By Fall Azuria was pregnant. Out of wedlock, unfortunately, but Haraza sought to fix that. Her family were more relieved than not that the ice maiden had finally found a suitor, but their distrust and dislike for Haraza was still strong. Azuria's father refused to go to the wedding, said he believed Azuria was marrying Haraza just to find a husband. A tragic irony.
The next 10 years Haraza was very happy. He had a beautiful baby girl, Hanno Frostfawn, and was the happiest he'd ever been. Life was great, he was hunting and storytelling and being a father and a husband. His relaxed life was complete.
His Great Tragedy: Haraza's perfect life was spoiled later spring of 511AV. And, ironically, it was taken from him by the changes he made to grant this life.
Haraza always regretted alienating his wife and daughter from their Skyglow lineage, even though it was only in some small part. He was never able to overcome his childhood image; Azuria's family line had effectively excommunicated him. This just meant Azuria and Hanno didn't get to see their Skyglow relatives very often. Haraza always felt it was his fault. Azuria didn't mind, she was just happy with her family life. But Haraza sought to fix things.
Azuria's family wanted to begin preparations for Hanno's marriage to a Skyglow. They spoke with Azuria about it many times, though most talks ended in fights. Azuria still didn't agree with the concept of arranged marriage. Time and time again she told her family that it was out of the question and she wouldn't let them control her daughter's life. Unfortunately Haraza didn't know of these fights. When Azuria talked to her family he was not welcome, he only knew the barest bones from his wife.
Haraza thought that he could finally win Azuria's family to his side. He thought that this was the opportunity to clean up his image at last. Haraza didn't think much of the negatives of arranged marriage, he didn't understand what was so negative about it in Azuria's eyes. The topic was one he never really spoke of to her, and knew little about what made Azuria so strong against it.
Regardless Haraza arranged a meeting with Azuria's family. He figured the marriage wouldn't be for a long time. His daughter was growing up, as much as it hurt him to think about, and she needed a stable future as well. This was a win win for everyone involved, right? The meeting went well; Azuria's father actually spoke with Haraza for the first time in over 10 years. Things were going well.
But Azuria found out and considered Haraza's actions a betrayal of her very nature. She was furious. The two fought and argued and bickered for months, trying to come to an agreement. Haraza couldn't go back on his word to her father now, it would ruin what Haraza considered their only chance to be at peace with her family. And Azuria wouldn't allow her daughter to be traded off like a token to a selfish scheme of Haraza. They weren't able to understand the points of views of the other.
She left just shortly before Spring began to change to summer, as the ice flows melted away and the ocean was more water again. Haraza hadn't woken up until morning, long after Azuria had gone. The couple had been sleeping in other beds, trying to figure out a way to bring peace. Trying to stop the arguments, keep them out of sight of Hanno. But Azuria wanted to get away for a bit, come back and try one last time to make him understand. She needed to leave to clear her head.
But Azuria was never seen again.
The weeks that followed were tense and suspicious. Many people knew of the couple's problems, of their angry fighting. And it seemed no one had seen Azuria leave. Rumors flew that Haraza had something to do with her disappearance and about the circumstances of the mysterious event. Haraza knew Azuria wouldn't leave the two of them. He called for search parties, but no trace was discovered. Haraza's hope to find her began to diminish.
Azuria's family was the most bitter. Their old distrust of Haraza was stronger than ever and they made several motions with the Frostfawn hold to send Hanno back to them. Haraza was an unfit parent, they said, or that Azuria had run off and was waiting for her daughter to leave Haraza. Worse, they made several suggestions that Haraza was a danger to the girl.
Haraza was crushed. Everything seemed to turn against him. So he did the only thing he could to respect Azuria's wishes: Haraza took Hanno away from any ideas of an arranged marriage and away from the cruel rumors that haunted the two. In the middle of the night, he fled as well.
Current Existence: Haraza and Hanno paid their way aboard a cargo ship, sneaking out of Avanthal one night. They traveled to Denval, to start a new life. |
