Standing there, Clyde was feeling a bit weak... His first attempt at shielding had not been very efficient, and had taken a lot out of him. Sitting down for a moment, Clyde rested, taking in a deep breath...

"With the shield... It was pretty simple, I tried to change the structure of my res, and to compress it into a sheet... Eventually I got it right, and it worked... Though only for a moment... And it blocked the water ball for a bit...."

"Why will the path not be discreet? You will not see magic racing across the blade. When it is in the glyphs area, it is hidden. It will only show once it comes out of the end, which is where it will shoot. And the focus is simply to help attract the element, and to concentrate it while it is stored, you cannot store pure res though with glyphs, only magic..."

"Could you explain more what you are saying will not be good, as I do not see what you are saying will be trouble."

Speaking, Clyde finished his second set of hand shields, which covered his hands. These ones seemed a bit better than the last, but still not to good...

"Why have you started using words all of a sudden, I am curious... The things I do, well they are words, but you cannot read them, as they are all in the ancient tongue. I do not just throw words in, instead my glyphs are made up of words... It is simply my way of glyphing, as everyone has a different way... Don't try and copy what someone else does, just do what you think feels right..."

Update 6/2/18- 1:10AM EST: His 7 year plan a success, and several weeks ahead of schedule, Clyde leaves to oversee the world he has taken over.

No new threads after end of Spring 518-Will still be checking for PM's occasionally, but focusing on a new character.

Please be aware Clyde is a master Magecrafter. He therefore should not be gaining full xp(or possibly shouldn't gain any at all) for simple tasks related to this magic, such as low level MC items, particularly for repetitions of creations he has done before. Feel free to contact me if unsure of a instance of his magic use compared to his skill level.

[Flashback]Magical Protection and Possibilities[Bob]

While Bob was still drawing the glyphs, Clyde was talking about the shield. Imagining a sheet of res Bob got a little distracted and ended up drawing a few squares on the glyph. Seeing the squares in between the words made Bob see in his head a sheet in between two people. "Wouldn't it be easier to just make a wall of air or fire with your reimancy?"

"Discreet? Here I'll show you.". Bob started getting some res on his hands, putting it on the white ground and attracting the snow. Once the snow got around the res on his hands, Bob stood up and started walking a distance away from Clyde. "Get your shield up and running and I'll show you whats not good." Bob repeated his request.

Bob was admiring his handiwork of glyphs on the sword when Clyde started talking about the glyphs itself. "Words? I don't know...I thought that maybe since you do it there must be a reason? Like maybe it powers up the glyph more compared to drawings? With that reason it should be right...right?" Then grasping the hilt properly, he straightened the sword to try and aim it at Clyde.

Clyde smiled at Bob's reply, and at the way he thought of magic.

"Perhaps for an instant a wall of flames might be better, but it only works on certain things, and for a moment. Also it takes a constant cost of djed. With a shield, it can be made differently to do almost anything you would want, to keep anything from getting through. Even sound and things!"

"And for the djed usage, well it does take some, but once you get better, you can make a shield, and leave it set up there without having to feed it constantly. It will support itself, and constantly be in action, even when you are not there. Though not until you get better..."

Now it seemed though that Bob wanted to do another example. He held up his hand shields as Bob said, but he doubted they would do much. He was a complete new user of shielding, and Bob was getting rather skilled at reimancy.

Anything he threw at it would just go right through the shield, almost as if they were not there. Though it seemed he had to fix another misunderstanding. Something which seemed to happen quite often when magic was involved...

"No, you misunderstand. You may have noticed that you cannot read these 'words' that I use correct? That is becuase they are in the ancient tongue, which you do not know. The words of ancient tongue are simply my representation of glyphing, such as how your representation is making shapes and symbols."

"So as you see, the words are not to power up my glyphs, they are my glyphs! But good job on recognizing that they were words. To some the ancient tongue just looks like nonsense. You could at least tell that they were words..."

Once more Clyde held his hands up, ready to try to ward off any attack with his hands and the shields on them. Though if the magic attack did hit them, it would easily shatter the shield, and go right through...

When Clyde held up his hands to signal that they can start, Bob waved the snowball on his hand to try and get his attention. "You see I have the snowball now and anyone could see it...thats not even including the time and motions i would have to go through to get it." Stiffening his arm in anticipation of the magic effects later, he did his best to aim the point at Clyde's hand. "Now even the person I am attacking can see what I am going to do next." Finishing that sentence, Bob took the snowball and pushed it into the glyph as fast as possible. Dramatically moving his arm slowly so that Clyde can observe the snowball being pushed in.

Bob didn't see what happened but as the snowball entered the glyph, it followed the path of barriers over to the focus at the end. The barriers on the side got narrower from the focus at the start to the focus at the end to make a straight due to the fact the focus on the tip had to be smaller to fit the spot like Clyde had said. When the snowball finally got out it can't even be called a snowball anymore. Just a slightly long lump of misshapen snow which rushed at Clyde with an increased speed. Bob did not expect the snow to be that fast and had to use his free hand to grasp on to the arm holding the sword for support. Even with that, once the snow was out Bob's arm flew back from the unexpected kickback and fell on to the ground.

Then on the ground, Bob dropped his training sword and started flailing his arms to make the pain go away. "See? How can that be discreet? My opponent will know that there is something up even from the start!"

Having prepared for the attack, he held his shield up ready to ward it off. And of course do to his thorough preparation... his preparation had no effect. This time it took a full second for the shield to fail, as it flared up a bright silver and showed itself.

After that it shattered, and the snow kept on coming. Some hit his hands, and the rest rushed onward to hit all over his face and body. It took him at least a minute to dislodge all of the snow, the large chunk in his mouth, some up his nostrils, and a good chunk that had gone down his shirt.

After dislodging all of this, he finally got up, and inspected what had just happened. Once more a simple miscommunication had occurred, which had made things not work as he had said. The snow shooting was fine, but Bob had not used the storage glyph at all...

He tried to explain the way to do it, which might do as he had said.

"Well, you almost got it right, you got the major part of the glyphs in the way i said, but not all of it. But you failed to store the magic, and then release it with a trigger."

"All that you need to do is keep the old glyphs, and surround the focus with a total barrier. However the side of the barrier that is attached to the pathway, you attach it to a trigger. When the trigger is activated, it will deactivate that side of the barrier, thus letting all of the attack out as it did this time."

"The key difference is that it will not shoot it out right away. You will store the magic, and then when you speak the trigger phrase, it will shoot it out. Now do you see what I want you to do?"

Looking at the sword, he saw that the glyphs had vanished. Since they had been used, they were now all gone, and Bob would have to start from scratch. Thus was the ways of glyphing.

"Well, now that you know what I mean, you can try once more. Since it will take you a while to redraw all of those glyphs, it will give me time to work on another shield. So you go ahead and do that, while I work on this."

This time Clyde would concentrate, and try to remake the shield better. He focused, not just over his hands, but a slightly larger area. This time he doubled the size of the shield, so that it went over his hands, and past a few inches on each side. A little bigger, a good increment for training...

[Flashback]Magical Protection and Possibilities[Bob]

Postby Bob Barton on August 1st, 2011, 6:28 pm

When Bob was talking to Clyde he saw the boy's face was full of it and trying to get it out from the nose and mouth as well? Hell, the boy must be suffocating. Can gods die? Bob did not know and was not willing to try and find out at the expense of his teacher. He slammed his hands and feet on the ground to raise up his body and rushed on over to Clyde to help him.

"So I was kind of right is that what you're saying?" Bob asked when he lifted his sword again after he was done with Clyde. As the boy had said the glyphs need redoing, the side of the sword becoming nothing more than plain old boring wood again. Bob took up his chalk again and started redoing the glyph. After drawing the circles he begun with the barriers. "Clyde did say words don't make a difference..." he mummered as he started drawing the paths gradually getting closer and closer towards the tip of the sword. Suits of cards again since he likes those best but leaving the sides attached empty as Clyde had said. At those spots he wrote "FIRE!" as the trigger.

Done with that Bob started for another snowball. The previous experience with ejecting the snowball from the glyph made him a little cautious. With that he got ready the res and placed it on the ground to absorb the snow. The snowball was not that big but then again...better to start smaller so he won't risk losing an arm. Using his res to hold the snow together, Bob used his hands to break off some parts of the snowball to make it smaller. Done with that, he dropped the snowball into the glyph. Not the one on the tip but the one near the hilt.

Now the glyph was ready for Clyde. With his signal, Bob would speak the trigger, "FIRE!" to release the snowball over to wherever he thought the shield was.

Working on his shield, Clyde also watched as Bob redid his glyphs. This try seemed a bit better, though it could still use some work. And Bob had definitely improved over last time, this time getting much closer to what he had said.

He let out a breath, and focused on completing the shield, which was larger than the others he had made. He would see how it did, though it would most likely not be to much of an improvement off the last one. Motioning for Bob, he readied to take the hit.

This time, as Bob fire the snowball, he tilted his shield at a slight angle. That way it would not hit it full on, but at an angle. And it seemed that it had worked.

All that Bob would see was a sudden flash a silver air, as the shield appeared on impact with the snowball. However it held just long enough for the snowball to glance off go to the side of him, before it failed.

True Bob was not going at it full power, and it was only a glancing blow... And his attack was weaker since he was testing out a new theory... But it had still worked for a moment, and though his shield broke, he had protected himself for a bit.

"Good, we are both getting better. And you see, with this new way it is better, since you can store the magic, and then use it. Though you are not quite good enough to store the magic long term."

"However, if you want to do this with a real weapon, and not just with this play one, you are going to have a problem crop up, which will make this more difficult..."

Yes the attack worked and this time Bob did not fall. He didn't know what made it work. Maybe it was the smaller snowball or the stance he assumed for the attack. When he fired the snowball, he had his arm folded and against his ribs to brace himself for the incoming force and the other arm to hold it there. Nevertheless it hit the shield and got through with only a minimum recoil at the arm.

Happy, Bob answered Clyde enthusiastically. "Yes I guess we are. Maybe I should show you how the other attack I thought up would work and you try it yourself. But what do you mean problem?" Bob looked over the sword again to see that the glyph faded. He will have to do it again if Clyde wanted the example.

Clyde looked at Bob, with a smile on his face. It was nice to see his growth, and to watch as he got better.

"Other magic magic attack? What would that be? I did not know you had another up your sleeve."

Then with a slightly sadder face, he spoke, having to deliver a letdown to Bob.

"Well that wooden sword might work fine with such glyphs, but how would you put it onto a real one? Ink might smear, and would not last, it could be take off to easily, and might get messed up if you used the sword."

"The only feasible way to do so is to carve the glyphs somehow into the metal, which would not be easy. And once the glyphs are used, they will vanish. COuld you imagine what would happen to the metal if the glyphs vanished? It would ruin the blade... So While it works fine now, how would you do it with a real weapon?"

[Flashback]Magical Protection and Possibilities[Bob]

Postby Bob Barton on August 1st, 2011, 7:50 pm

There was a loss of words when the problem was presented. Bob never really thought of that. Curses, what now? "Uhhh...maybe there is something other than those things we haven't thought of yet? We might find it out next time...I hope...Like maybe pasting the scrolls on the sword?" Bob didn't sound too convincing but after all this work it would be a shame to give up now.

But enough of that, Bob will now show his grand idea for Clyde. "Yes, another magic attack. I bet especially with your fire or lightning it will be threatening if not damaging. Those other people would be in for a surprise if they tried to fight you" Bob smiled again and took the chalk to the sword again. The chalk went up and down as it started drawing the circles for focuses, shapes for barriers but...no triggers? What was Bob planning now? What he drew was a continuous line for the barriers just bordering the focus leaving an empty path in the middle.

With the new glyph on the sword, Bob grasped it with two hands. From both he started to extrude some res and the res from both hands met, wrapping around the hilt of the sword. Then he brought it upwards again slowly in its liquid form. As he did he started slashing around to show Clyde how it should work in combat. Again with all his might he started slashing. A slash upwards as he stepped forward, a slash across as he stepped backwards and a thrust forward at the end.

The res followed the movements of the sword and Bob's will going forward. At the thrust it jumped a little upwards and with all his concentration, Bob transmuted it rapidly into water. The fast flowing water as he willed it jumped and entered right into the glyph at the tip of the sword. The water came out from the glyph of the hilt and Bob concentrated as much as possible, even at the point of sweating to maintain its form. Spiraling up the sword and getting back into the glyph to repeat the process over and over again. The water picked up speed with each revolution.

Maintaining this move took a lot out of Bob but against his better judgement he wanted to do more. There was not really any good reason for it. Maybe he just wanted to impress Clyde or maybe that was just a justification he would give to make people not think he is stupidly rash but Bob continued more and more. After fifteen long seconds of continuing to try and control his reimancy like this Bob finally succumbed to the pain which pricked at his whole body like thousands of needles, dropping the sword and the magic on the ground as he collapsed clutching at his body all over.
