Dawn of a New Day (Taln)

Sarye couldn't stop the tears from pouring down her face she was grateful that no one had come into the baths since they had been in here. She was also grateful for Taln coming to her rescue like he was and she knew she had to find some way to repay him.

Kerra took a deep breath as she took Taln's verbal assault knowing that a blow from him would damage more than just her reputation among the Dek caste. Her deep brown eyes never leaving his emrald ones. Her glare could frighten most Dek but she knew that it wouldn't work on Taln now. The only thing that changed in her facial expression was a slight eyebrow raise when he started reminding her about what he did to that Dek last year. He deserved what he had gotten but that put enough fear into Kerra that her gaze came unglued from his.

"I'll leave but only because I'd rather keep my pretty face intact," Kerra replied sarcastically, "Your precious Sarye will be safe for now." Kerra turned and ran away from the two of them making sure that Taln couldn't get to her.

Sarye had finally started to wipe her tears away now that Kerra was gone.

"I'm sorry, Taln, I didn't think she would be like that. She's normally just closed off not really angry with me. I guess you know her better than I do with saying all of that stuff about her. You two probably grew up together. The pain you both endured and still you came out a decent Inartan unlike her." Sarye reached for his hand once again needing some kind of comfort.

"Even the most beautiful woman in the world turns ugly when she's that cruel." Taln answered quietly after the retreating dek. She gave dek a bad name and it made him furious that his entire caste was thought of like that as a common thing.

It took a couple chimes for him to calm his temper and unclench his fists. Taln really didn't like to use his size to intimidate people, but sometimes it was just necessary. And with Kerra, it was always necessary. Once Kerra had run off, he finally turned back to Sarye.

"No I should apologize Sarye Chiet. I thought you only wanted a chance to just see her not actually talk to her. Sorry I didn't mean to break up your family connection like that, but I just couldn't stand by and let her attack you."

'There's no way I can ever tell Sarye how much Kerra has mentioned a twin she hated, resented and envied. Or the drugs and men she's used so carelessly. If she knew how lazy, cruel and mean tempered Kerra truly is, it would horrify her.'

The dek's ears and face turned red at the compliment, knowing it was undeserved. He looked down as the woman reached for his hand again, obviously needing solace. When he felt the silken warmth of her delicate hand, he honestly didn't mind her touch. At all...

Dawn of a New Day (Taln)

Sarye breathed shuddered from trying to stop crying. Her face was red and splotchy once in again in this man's presence; she was thankful that he had probably seen worse. Her world was all in shambles still even after three years of trying to get close to this woman. Kerra had never exploded on her like that before. Yes, she had been angry when Sarye talked of her father but never hostile like today. From Taln's responses to Kerra is sounded like this was who she was and not the person that she had been about Sarye.

"There is no need to apologize, Taln. I needed your help with that. I don't think I quite fit in with most Inartan. I'm not always up for a fight and am not the most up front person. I tend to be more sweet and sensitive than brash," this made Sarye chuckle a little. Seeing that her touch had not affected him as it had earlier this morning Sarye moved in close to him and put her head on his chest hoping for just a moments peace in her protectors midst. Hearing his heartbeat coming through fast and strong her breath finally quieted and the shuddering stopped.

"I should let you go. I've probably made you late to your first shift," Sarye said but she showed no sign of moving from where she was.

Dawn of a New Day (Taln)

The tall man shook his head, smiled and replied,

"I have to disagree with that. I can tell that if someone, anyone, tried to mess with a meal you're preparing, you'd go full Inarta on them. Your passionate nature is one of the biggest traits of a master chef. Besides, you showed mercy to your twin which is honorable. And honor is another strong Inarta trait, please don't put yourself down."

His heart pounded like a heavy drum the moment her slim hand touched his chest and he couldn't understand why such a small thing could have such a large reaction from him. The man was inexplicably drawn to Sarye and he had no words for it.

Taln's large arms seemed to move of their own accord and he held her in a close and careful embrace. His hands more than spanned her tiny waist and he wondered again at how someone could be so very delicate. She was like crimson fire encased in fragile hand blown glass and he was afraid he'd break her somehow.

The woman spoke, but it didn't seem to register while they stood so closely.

Dawn of a New Day (Taln)

Sarye's head was spinning as she listened to the heartbeat of this complex Intarta. The thoughts in her head made her feel a little dizzy and confused. Too many things happened this morning and Sarye was feeling like she needed a nap from the emotional drain. She gently pulled herself away from Taln's embrace smiling and looking into his emerald eyes once again.

"I really need to go Taln and so do you," Sarye said solemnly not wanting to leave her protector but knowing she had to for his safety and for her health at the moment. She rubbed her head trying to push away the unsettled feeling, "I think I need a nap. It's been an emotional morning."

Sarye let out a sigh looking down at the floor; she was trying to get up the strength to leave him knowing that she might not see him again for some time.

Dawn of a New Day (Taln)

The tall man nodded reluctantly at her words. He was half a bell late already and would get a beating for it when he finally arrived. But Sarye was a breath of kindness in an ugly world. Taln knew he had no right to her or her time. In just a short while, he'd already broken up the relationship between her and her sister. If he stayed near her much longer, Gods only knew what damage he'd wreak on her sweet self.

The was nothing more he could say. All he could do was look at her gentle features and memorize her face for the long, dark hours that stretched ahead. The Dek nodded again and turned quickly on his heel, not letting her see his torn expression. His large, swift strides carried him away from probably the only person he could trust; at least a little. Taln wondered if he would ever see Sarye again.
