Bolden looked somewhat ashamed for a chime as he answered,
"I'm not much of a hunter. I've put the majority of my time into learning horses for a while now."
The Drykas picked up a curved piece of equipment and moved toward Blade. Nightwind followed beside him like a big, dark, half-ton dog. After removing the yvas, Bold scraped off the sweat and dried dirt from the mare's coat with swift, sure strokes. He switched to a brush and groomed methodically from poll to haunches, keeping an elbow up near her face and shifting to avoid her kicks.
Her tail switched in irritation at his casual handling of her feet. The delicate skin on her cannons shivered in annoyance and she tried to yank away her hoof, giving a low whicker. Bolden chuckled and replied softly,
"Yea you're top bitch around here, but I'm top guy, so get over it and let me move on with the job."
Bolden didn't really think about Matthial's question before answering; he just replied with all the thoughts that surfaced.
"I'm not sure which one first really because there's so much. I'd say stop at the pub first to see if there's any juicy gossip and then find my brother and father. Then track down Kavala; she's my sister." Bolden grinned hugely as he spoke, the pitch of his voice rising and falling with enthusiasm.
"I've learned so much since I've been gone and there's so much to say and ask, that I'm not sure how we'll sort through it all. I've got Nightwind now, so I definitely think having a strider will be the best conversation starter."
The mare turn her head around to her flank gave him a hard bite to the forearm as he finished picking the last hoof.
"Ow! Go on with ya, grumpy!"
He opened the corral gate and Blade raced through it like her life depended on it, without a backward glance.
Nightwind chewed the top of Bolden's head, cheerfully covering it with horse slobber. The young Drykas put up the brush to fend off the stallion pulling his hair out with those large teeth. When he began the soothing ritual of brushing Nightwind, he turned to Matthial and asked,
"Where are you off to now? Do you have any friends or family here?"
