Lacai Basic Information Race: Drykas Birthday & Age: Fall 56 493 ((18)) Gender: Female Languages Fluent: Common Basic: Pavi Poor: N/A Physical Description Lacai stands at a tall height of 5'9''. Though this can be a common height for Drykas, who range from five feet to six feet five, Lacai often towers over others. While tall, Lacai is a healthy skinny. The kind where you can only see her ribs if she were to suck in like a vacuum. Green eyes the color of moss lay above a lightly dappled nose of freckles and cheeks. Thin, often nibbled, lips hide the slightly crooked teeth behind. Long, wavy brown hair the color of cocoa, slides to a stop in the middle of her back. Generally, it is up in a tightly wound braid, out of the way as Lacai works. Long legs help her climb while she builds and nimble feet are normally left bare. Shoes do nothing but help her slide off pavilion beams. If the case calls for it, Lacai might tie a strip of leather around the arch of her foot. For balance. Not really a large fan of necklaces and earrings, along with other jewelry, Lacai rarely wears them outside of her hair. Pants help with her job, so Lacai's wardrobe is full of pants and a mixture of loose and tight fitting tops; mostly red. Character Concept Like many Drykas, Lacai is very proud of the work she does, even if many who do the same are men. Women are treated equally, but Lacai can't help but internally question the male who gives her easy jobs. Feeling right at home with a hammer in hand, she isn't afraid of getting down and dirty. Sweat? No problem. Lacai hates being pressured. Proud of her work, Lacai isn't afraid to stand toe to toe with those who disagree. Criticism is expected, but if you go out of your way to find flaws, Lacai often digs her heels in. Working well in one on one situations instead of large group numbers, she prefers to keep building plans to a minimum of two other people conversing with her. This keeps the confusion down, also, since Drykas argue alot. The layout of a pavilion she wants to build will often stay inside of her mind, as Lacai doesn't specialize in drawing or storytelling. Mental notes are made and Lacai follows them through to the end, even if the money has to come from her own pocket. While proud, Lacai isn't arrogant. If the employer complains of something in the pavilion, she'll spend all day if she has to fixing it. Lacai likes to please people while she's working and has a slight weakness for doorways. This is often where Lacai will place her "mark" on the pavilion she has built. In the future, Lacai would love to have her own type of business going. While now she builds pavilions by herself, a difficult task for sure, Lacai wishes to have a small group of workers somewhere down the line. For now she simply wants to survive and earn as much as she can, to save and start up. Lacai enjoys little children and their curiosity, which makes her smile in most cases. She could see herself being a mother, but not right now. History Born to the Ruby Clan of Drykas, Lacai was constantly surrounded by creative workers. Whether they were sculpting, weaving, sewing, or even building. Her father had two wives, both of which he was extremely sexist against. Believing they were only good for childbirth and servant-hood. Cooking, slaving over the children, and mending clothes. Harsh and cold hearted, Lacai's father was a bitter man for no apparent reason. He wouldn't talk about it, and the family feared actually asking him lest his temper got hold and he made a rash decision. Lacai suspects it has something to do with her now deceased grandmother, on the first wife's side. This suspicion arises from how he treats his wives. Mekune(Mah-Kune), her father, has two wives and three children. Sunsilla(Sun-See-ah), her father's first wife is Lacai's mother. Tan skinned and long haired with large blue eyes, Sunsilla was very attractive. Unfortunately, instead of her skill in weaving or sewing, the one thing Mekune married Sunsilla for was her wide-birthing hips. During the time, Mekune was out to make a name for himself. If this included marrying multiple women and having a large clan of kids, so be it. Sunsilla soon after gave birth to a brown haired daughter with eyes like her father and a loud mouth like her mother. Since this was her first child, Sunsilla's mother, Lacai's grandmother, took care of Lacai mostly. Though Sunsilla loved her baby, she was clueless in the skills of raising one. Slowly, she began to learn from Lacai's grandmother and the two bonded very much. Mekune and Lacai's grandmother butted heads on many ideas of child-raising. Sunsilla was often caught in the middle and had to choose sides. Lacai, named after Sunsilla's beautiful dun strider, was a curious child. Mekune spent many hours with his daughter, taking her with him when he went to oversee the building of a pavilion. Often times, Lacai was underfoot the workers, though a few every now and then loved to make the young child giggle with delight or would give her several pieces of wood as toys. When Lacai was two, she was lost for several hours. Only to be found later, by a Dryksa worker, playing with nails. None were swallowed, thankfully, but Mekune stopped taking Lacai with him. Sunsilla failed to produce another child within the first three years of Lacai's youthful life. Lacai's grandmother feared Sunsilla was infertile or something had gone horribly wrong with the first birth. She often prayed to Tivaku, the god of fertility, in hopes that Sunsilla would become pregnant again. Mekune blamed Sunsilla, who responded with as much passion to defend her daughter as Mekune did. Horrible, verbal fights ensued. Lacai's grandmother often broke it up, creating a rift between herself and Mekune. Lacai didn't understand what the fights were about and didn't get involved. Mekune, though he loved his daughter, began to see other women besides Sunsilla. While common for a Drykas male to take a second wife, he didn't. Instead, he slept around and only after one lady became pregnant did he marry again. Sunsilla was crushed. Rahya entered the family when Lacai was only five. Stomach like a watermelon and face glowing with happiness. Long, dirt blond hair was kept up in a braid. Coming from the Opal Clan, Rahya had much experience with medical. She specialized in child birth and was ecstatic to have her own baby after delivering so many and seeing such happy families. Though she wanted to, Sunsilla couldn't hate the friendly Rahya, who was always helpful and willing to watch over Lacai if Sunsilla had to leave. Mekune wouldn't allow Rahya to have a job. Lacai viewed Rahya as an aunt most of the time, and a babysitter the other half. Spring 6, Rahya gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing eight pounds nine ounces. Mekune, who was chosen to name the child, decided upon Mikkel. At the tender age of six, Lacai appointed herself necessary to overlook the care of her brother. Fairly soon she grew bored. What toys Mikkel had, such as building blocks, Lacai borrowed in an attempt to design a house of some sort. Sunsilla tried desperately to attract Lacai's curious attention with sewing and weaving, but each theme didn't last long and Lacai fell back on the building. Mekune disapproved, Mikkel cried when his toys were taken, and Rahya was left on the sidelines to wait for Lacai to hurt herself. Sunsilla's mother simply tsked and went about the household chores. Within four more years, Rahya was pregnant again. Mikkel had just turned four, Lacai was now ten and pronounced herself a "big" girl. Mekune cherished his son, spoiling him and taking him to the pavilion building. Something he had once done with Lacai. Even though she asked, he wouldn't take her and often told her to go find something more ladylike to do. Though Rahya tried to tell her it was because Mekune feared Lacai would hurt herself, Lacai knew better. There had been plenty of chances for Mekune to take her, but he had chosen instead a younger, more accident prone, sibling in place. Jealousy raged between the siblings, who often fought and wrestled. When Mikkil was taught how to wield a hammer and build, he showed no interest in it. Mekune tried to force him to be like his father; a builder. Unfortunately, Mekune was too ignorant to notice Lacai's interest in her father's lifestyle. Mekkil wanted to weave and sew clothing; like Sunsilla. Rahya approved this behavior… When Mekune, who believed men had to be masculine, wasn't looking of course. After waddling around for nine months, Rahya suffered through a difficult birth of her second child. A clansman of the Opal Clan had to be called and for awhile, all the family feared Rahya wouldn't survive. The child had been breached, but the healer managed to turn him. Nicolai was the second son of Mekune and had bright blond hair. The color of the rising sun. Green eyes like his half-sister, Lacai, who was eleven at the time, gave up on the jealous feelings over Mikkel. They were family and whatever happened, happened. Sunsilla's mother died when Lacai was thirteen. It was a devastating blow, but the family recovered. No thanks for Mekune, who shrugged and took his eldest son out to hunt on that day. Sunsilla sent Lacai to give her father his forgotten lunch one summer day. Lacai had just reached fifteen. Upon reaching the worksite, there was a fight going on between Mekune and a woman. It seemed the woman wanted to work for Mekune, who was refusing. His reasoning? A woman belonged in the pavilion or in a bed, not in a man's workplace. Lacai saw red, but barely held her temper as the woman slapped Mekune and stomped away. The workers watched the spectacle without comment. Turning to go back to work, Mekune saw Lacai. This was the day Mekune told Lacai of her future. He described how she would obey her husband and give up in any fights, would give birth to children, and would be employed in an easy job, such as sewing. This was the day Lacai swore to herself she would work what her father believed a man's job was. In fact, she would do the very job he himself was employed at. Building pavilions. Three years later, when Lacai was eighteen, she began to work her dream job. Building and designing pavilions. Though harsh, the work was plentiful. Mekune kept trying to arrange for Lacai to be married, but given that she wasn't quite competent in most of her skills, no man was interested. Even still, Lacai builds pavilions for the average price of one as long as the employee buys everything, she will put it together for the average price of a pavilion. The mark of Lacai's building would be some type of weaving somewhere. Rahya, Sunsilla, Nicolai, and even Mikkel praise her hard work. Sunsilla is now pregnant with her second child, after such a long period of waiting. The baby is expected in the winter season. Skills
