Race: Kelvic (Dire Polar Bear) Birthday & Age : 3, 13 Summer 505 AV Gender: Male Languages
Vani: Fluent Common : Basic
As a Dire Polar Bear, Jaiun is able to fluently speak the language of the bears and communicate with brown bears, polar bears, et cetera.
physical description
Jaiun's human form is tall and toned, with the compact build of a runner. Pale of skin yet dark of eye, Jaiun often sticks out among the darker-haired Vantha, especially since his short, buzzed hair is a vibrant blond. His skin is unblemished except for one part, the inside of his right forearm; on it, a sparkling blue snowflake, the mark of Morwen, glows. A raw intelligence lies, half-concealed, within the murky depths of Jaiun's eyes, as well as a ferocity that is apparent to all who approach him- many have been known to feel uneasy and perhaps a bit intimidated in Jaiun's presence. He is aware of this and, if he likes the person, will try to ease their uneasiness with one of his rare smiles.
While his appearance is odd for Avanthal, Jaiun by no means looks anything but human. Even among his fellow Dire Polar Bears, Jaiun has a humanish look to him- from a distance. If you get close enough, you will begin to notice clues to his bestial side. The easiest one to see is when Jaiun shows his teeth; they are not normal human teeth, but that of a bear, sharp and pointy. His eyes, a stunningly dark blue, have been known to seem black as a bear's eye in the right light- fitting, given Jaiun is a polar bear.
In his Kelvic form, Jaiun is an overlarge polar bear- one of the fabled Dire Polar Bears that make up Avanthal's Icewatch. Large enough to carry two or three regular-sized Vantha on his back, Jaiun's polar bear form is monstrously muscled beneath that thick, shaggy white fur, enough to rend a man in two. The mark of Morwen in found in the same place- the inside of his right forearm, though it's pearly blue sheen is dimmed by the shaggy white fur surrounding it. Dark eyes, filled with a keen intelligence, lie above a dark muzzle filled with tough teeth- all in all, quite a ferocious form.
character concept
Jaiun is a bear, to put it simply. Proud, honorable and perhaps a bit haughty- Jaiun displays all the emotions you would expect of a bear. He is fiercely devoted to the Icewatch, a decision made in honor of his mentor, Kalgar's sacrifice; the man sacrificed himself to save Jaiun, and the only way Jaiun feels he can become worthy of such a thing is to become the best Icewatch guard ever; to become the greatest guardian of Avanthal ever. Some might say Jaiun is torturing himself in trying such a thing, but Jaiun will not stop, not stop until the guilt and sadness over his adopted father's death has washed away.
His guilt is ever-present, just out of sight, always in the back of his mind. However, Jaiun does his best to hide it from the world; he presents a brave face, engaging all who approach with lighthearted banter and a boisterous attitude. He does his best to be friendly and make others feel easy around him, feeling it would be wrong to have others feel the pain of his grief and sorrow, not knowing it is multiplying within him, having keep it locked up so long.
He isn't sure if he believes in himself, and his ability to protect Icewatch. While he tries his best to succeed, a part of him, feels as though it is Regardless of the emotional turmoil within Jaiun, there are several parts of him that never change. One of them is his hardheadedness. Jaiun sees things in black and white, and has a very clear sense of morality. He will always do what he thinks is right- which is not always a good thing, since Jaiun's judgment is flawed just like everyone's else's, and his stubbornness means it is very hard to convince Jaiun he is wrong about things he feels strongly about.
Another, more positive trait of Jaiun is loyalty. If he has deemed you worthy of his trust, Jaiun will go to the ends of the earth to help you out. He will lay his life down to save you, and never, under any circumstances, abandon a friend. Many have found Jaiun quite a good ally to have.

Jaiun was one Dire Polar Bear among many born into the Icewatch Barracks in the year of 505 AV, just one more Kelvic destined to be a member of the Icewatch. He was moderately skilled at it, sure; but nothing more than that. He was one more young face among those of the other Kelvics, for the teachers of the Polar Bear Guards: for most of them, at least. One bear, a grizzled old teacher named Kalgar, took interest in the young Jaiun.
Under Kalgar's tutelage, Jaiun grew to be a fierce bear, proud and great, the best of his year. Kalgar taught Jaiun to be strong, helping hm get over his parents' death when Jaiun was half a year old. In time, Jaiun grew to respect Kalgar as a father, but, unfortunately, this would all fall at apart a year after Jaiun's father's death.
Kalgar died suddenly and tragically, slain by an unknown assaliant, and worst, it happened right in front of Jaiun's eyes. While in one of their last classes together (in both ways), the pair ventured out into the Northern Reaches, on a tracking mission. While following the trail of a deer, the polar bears came upon the campsite of a man, a criminal...and a cannibal, roasting a human arm over a fire. When he caught sight of them, the man jumped up and attacked, Jaiun specifically, spewing fire reimancy at him. Kalgar threw himself in front of the flames, shielding Jaiun; instantly, the young bear leaped to protect his mentor, striking the man across his face. He thought he killed the assailant and turned to help his mentor, but when he turned to him, he saw only his mentor's body, burned, lying still on the ground. The fierce grizzledness, the vigor, that had once inhabited Kalgar's eyes, was now gone, to be replaced only be unseeingness. And even worse, the man who killed Kalgar managed to survive Jaiun's blow and escape while Jaiun was tending to his fallen master.
Kalgar's death hit Jaiun hard. This bear- the one he looked up to- had given up his life so Jaiun might live, and he never forgot that. Jaiun threw himself into his work, training hard and furiously to become the best bear he could ever be. He felt that was what Kalgar would want; for Jaiun to become a strong bear and devote himself to the Icewatch in order to live up to his mentor's sacrifice. He began to feel impatient to become one, though an encounter early in life with Morwen helped deal with that, as well as gave Jaiun the first mark of her Gnosis, Ice Reaving.
Time passed, and Jaiun became more and more like a Polar Bear guard each day. He became powerful of limb and keen of eye. He seemed the epitome of a quintessential polar bear, but for one thing; he has not taken a mate. The bondmate, the connection between Vantha partners and their bear mounts, was a traditionally accepted idea of the Icewatch, but Jaiun never took one. Why is still up in the air. Perhaps he is simply waiting for the right person...[/googlefont]

How it was obtained... :
The barracks were dark and unlit at the early hour that currently blanketed Avanthal in a blanket of moonlight, the inhabitants having long collapsed onto their bed from a long day of patrolling the icy walls the previous days. Only a few people- mainly the watchmen on duty- still remained awake in the hour before dawn, but only one was currently in the training center of the barracks.
The person in question was a tall Kelvic cub, about four in bear years or so, battering a practice dummy with his bare fists. Light from a single stormgem in the ceiling bounced off his pale skin, which shone from sweat of having been in the act of battering the dummy for several of so hours. The sticky liquid flattened his blond curls, so different from the normally dark-haired natives of Avanthal, and made him pant as he attacked and lunged. The pants were interjected with growls that emananted from the deepness of his throat and seemed on the cusp of breaking out into a full bearish roar. Though far from fullgrown, the Kelvic seemed quite ferocious at the moment.
"Here again, are we?" The voice, female and sharp, came from behind Jaiun; if a second ago Jaiun had been intimidating and powerful, not he seemed equally embarassed and surprised. His hands, which had previously blurred the air with their speed, now fell limp to his sides; his curls briefly flared like fur bunching; and something approaching a whimper emanated from his throat. Very still, the cub turned and faced the one who had broken in on his training.
The incriminating woman was tall and fair, with darkly-colored hair and icy skin, and eyes a bright blue, sharp and inquisitive. Whe she saw the shock on Jaiun's face, her lips briefly twitched, but not going far enough for a fullscale smile.
"Now why, my dear cub, are you up at such an ungodly hour?" The woman asked, "No offense to any of the Gods, of course."
Jaiun slightly shifted position. "I was just practicing my moves, sir." He said humbly.
Unexpectedly, the woman laughed, her voice high and ringing. "Practicing your moves!" she repeated. "Someone is a bit too anxious for his future, I think!" Jaiun frowned at this, and the woman, still chuckling, acknowledged it with "Now, I'm not slightly you, Kelvic. I'll just saying, you should slow down a bit. Enjoy what you have right now. Here, come with me, young cub." The woman turned and walked out the door for the training center, and Jaiun, somewhat unwilling, followed.
The woman took them on a path through the barracks, and finally, Jaiun found himself outside; they had exited the barracks onto a small parcel of land in the back. Still dark, nothing disturbed the snow that lay on this small patch of ground; it lay perfectly still, confident in it's crystalline beauty. Light from inside the barracks invaded part of the dark wonderland, bouncing off the ice in a dizzingly array of colors.
"Now look here," The woman gestured around them. "If you're so anxious for the future, you won't get to see something so majestic, so peaceful as this."
"Aye," Jaiun agreed. "Morwen certainly has created a blessed place for us to live."
The woman turned to look at him, and now Jaiun saw a kindly expression in the her eyes.
"Impatient though you may be, you have a good spirit. Hardy and unrelenting, yet respectful of your surroundings. Morwen has her eye on you, I think." The woman nodded her head towards Jaiun, then started to walk back to the barracks.
"Ma'am?" came from Jaiun's throat before he could stop himself, and the woman halted. She turned her head to look back at Jaiun.
"Yes?" she asked.
"Who are you? What part of the Icewatch are you a part of?"
The woman smiled fully this time. "I'm not part of the Icewatch. I'm just...a visitor. Someone who is here for one purpose, and leaves once that purpose is done."
"Good luck, young cub." And with that, she left.
For a second, Jaiun felt the strangest urge to follow her, and didn't even notice as he stepped forward unconsciously after her, back into the barracks. Dreamily, he looked around, but saw no sight of the woman; she had quite disappeared. It was strange to be sure, but not as strange of the events of the night. In fact, Jaiun was exhausted, and couldn't wait to go to bed.
It wasn't til after Jaiun awoke that next morning did he discovered the snowflake on his arm.
