Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana Soup
This is an amazing potato cream sausage and kale soup.

Image

Ingredients

1 pound bulk Italian sausage
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
1 cup onion, chopped (about 1 onion)
2 large russet potatoes sliced in half, then cut into 1/4 inch slices
2 (14 ounce) cans chicken broth – low sodium is best
1 quart (4 cups) of water
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup cooked bacon, or canned real bacon bits
salt and pepper to taste
2 cups kale or Swiss chard
1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

In a medium sized skillet brown bulk Italian sausage over medium heat and add in red chili flakes and cook until browned, and completely cooked. Place onions, potatoes, chicken broth and garlic in a large pot, and cook on medium heat until the potatoes are cooked through. Add the cooked sausage, bacon, salt and pepper, and simmer for another 10 minutes. turn the heat to low and add the chopped kale and whipped cream. Heat through and serve.

Note's from Jen:

First, this stuff is fantastic doubled. You can eat on it for days and drool each time. I recommend MILD sausage unless you like it spicy then I use half and half hot and mild. The chili pepper flakes can take this over the top if you use really hot sausage. :)

Forthcoming are some bread recipes I use and make with it.

Sourdough Bread Bowls & Soup To Go In It

Image

BASIC SOURDOUGH BREAD

Ingredients

2 cups bread flour
1 1/2 cups sourdough starter
3/4 teaspoon salt

Directions

In an electric mixer with the dough hook, combine the flour, starter and salt, and knead until it no longer sticks to the sides or bottom of the mixing bowl. Place a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let dough rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Sprinkle lightly with flour and knead gently, removing any large air bubbles. Knead into a small circle, then shape into a tight ball (for bread bowls, separate dough in half and shape into two tight balls), pinching the seams together underneath. Place on a well-floured board or baking peel, seam-side down. Cover with a kitchen towels and let rest until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Preheat a baking stone, if available, on the bottom rack of an oven at 400 degrees F. With a sharp, serrated knife, cut a large “X” or cross-hatch pattern into the top of the dough. Spray lightly with a mister and transfer to the baking stone (or place on a heavy baking sheet lightly dusted with cornmeal) and bake until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when thumped on the bottom, about 60 minutes. (Sourdough should have a darker crust than other breads, so leave in the oven 5 minutes after you think it is done.) Remove the loaf from the oven, brush with melted butter, and let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Note from Jen:

his is a cheater recipe. It actually tastes a lot better if you are a regular sourdough baker and keep starter around.

CHEESY BROCCOLI SOUP

Ingredients

1 bunch broccoli -cut up
1 1/2 c boiling water (I used 1 c chicken stock and the hot water I used to rinse out the soup cans. I filled them 1/4 of the way full and swished them around to get the excess soup out)
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 c light cream (I had none on hand so I used whole milk)
salt & pepper to taste
8 oz cubed Velveeta
1/2c shredded carrots
1/2 c minced white onion
1 T olive oil

Directions

Sautee carrots and onion in olive oil. Add broccoli, chicken stock, soup(and water), milk, and Velveeta. Simmer on med-lo until broccoli is tender. Once broccoli is tender, scoop out about 1/2 of the mixture and pulse in a blender a few times. Be careful because the mixture is very hot! Add back to the pot and stir well. Scoop out the insides of the bread bowl and reserve for dipping. Add the soup to the bread bowl and ENJOY!

Notes from Jen:

This is one of those recipes that you can throw anything in the pot. Ie. A Kitchen Sink Recipe. If you don't get your measurements just right, don't worry... it always turns out yummy. Get crazy with types of cheese, put cauliflower in it... I've even added asparagus and its been fantastic.

Bored Today?
It might pay to write a review or two.

This link was sent to me today. I never pay much attention to review sites because a lot of people know that its the disgruntled folks that are the ones that bother to sit down and write the reviews. The rest of us that generally love a site tend to be too busy playing on a site to actually take the time to write a review.

You can choose any name you want. Did Alses write a scathing review of us on July 1st advising all of you to jump ship, being highly critical of everyone and in particular me? Who knows. Or was it a coward that took someone else's name because they didn't want to outright say who they were? I don't really care.

But anyhow, if you are bored and care to write a review, this might be a good time to do it. :)

ALTS Done Incorrectly
Waste Our Time & Resources

I understand a lot of you make it a hobby to create characters. That's all well and good, but here on Mizahar we have a hard fast rule. FIVE ALTS. That's all. And guess what? Because people abused this so much asking for so many PCs to be retired after just a few posts, we put another rule into place saying you had to have 50 posts before you could retire. Now.... why is this annoying?

I'll tell you. Of course I will. You are just thinking of yourself when you become one of those people that makes countless alts and never plays them past 10-20 posts... why? Because you have NO IDEA the time that goes into helping people get started.

You create a Character. Okay... hard, time consuming, etc... but generally its just a character for you until you create another one after becoming bored with this one.

Now... for each character, most people need.

  • CS approval - CS Liaison or AS/DS does this when the PC registers in a city. This entails reading the CS, posting any changes that may be needed and approving it or giving it an intervention. (10-30 minutes +)
  • JOB - Character needs a job. AS/DS or Founder does this when the character creates because the PC wants an income so they can pay seasonal expenses. (30 minutes +)
  • NPCs - HD ticket... Founder/RS does this... takes time. (10-30 minutes)
  • RESIDENCE - AS/DS/Founder if no ST at the domain the PC starts out at. (10-30 minutes +)
  • GNOSIS - HD Ticket... Founder/RS does this... takes time. (30+ minutes)
  • SPECIAL APPROVAL FOR CIRCUMSTANCES - Special characters, back stories, deformities, appearances, etc... (30+ minutes)

Okay at bare min... if they got all that stuff and taking the minimum amount of time, your looking at an hour and a half of staff time NOT counting special approval time at all. That's if it takes 10 minutes for things, not thirty.

You times this by your dozen alts or so and WTF people why are you utilizing all these staff resources selfishly when you could be happily playing one or two? And you wonder why I go ballistic when I see someone with a shit ton of characters hanging out claiming they knew nothing of the 5 alt rule or didn't know half of them were retired? It's equally annoying if you play one to the limit and then retire them without giving them a shot.

Now... that's just YOU with your PCs. Times that by a whole domain or a whole game and you are talking HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS a day spent on helping people with new characters.

See where this is going?

PLAY A CHARACTER OR TWO AND LEAVE IT AT THAT FOLKS. Seriously, having five is fine... its well within the rules... but play those five and don't waste our time and energy because the more this happens the more you are going to WAIT and WAIT for your approvals.

Goss

Oh and PS... it equally wastes our time when you do this with items, quests, perk point stuff, etc. I've about had it up to here today trying to help ungrateful silly people that just want what they want and that's it.

I'm Starting To Care Even Less...

I bust my ass day in and day out making this site work for others. I do countless approvals, answer PMs, and do all I can to make sure newbies get a good start here and get rping. To me a good day is a day when I have no new pms and the HD is caught up so I can play. That's pretty much few and far between these days. And most of you know that I don't have a lot of help. The help I do have comes in the form of Traverse and Gillar occasionally, and I am super thankful they are around.

Mizahar doesn't run itself. It hasn't been successful by luck, by chance, by some other supernatural means. Mizahar is what I would consider super successful because there's someone out there looking out for you folks and making sure it runs smoothly. I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but honestly, if I was this hot mess of everything everyone accuses me of, would this site even exist? I highly doubt it. That goes for Tarot's awesome coding too... he did a fantastic job of admining the place. He still does. Behind the scenes he keeps it going, makes the upgrades, and pops in occasionally to answer questions and help out.

But we aren't accidentally successful. And folks need to start seeing that and cutting me some slack for being outspoken, pigheaded, and yes self serving. I am utterly self serving just like I have been accused of being. I am here to make sure I have a place to RP when I feel like it that is top quality. That is absolutely selfish. There are a lot of other places on the net to go roleplay... some fairly good... but none are Mizahar. Some people stole our system. Some people accuse Akalaks of being Navi (duh... we came out and opened WAY before the movie folks... get a grip), the Isur of being dwarves (if you look into their culture they are nothing alike other than they both like underground regions but then so do lots of fantasy race). I see nothing in common with Konti being elves or Inarta being elves, etc. I can tell you which inspirations drove each creation. I can't speak for others, but I do know mine.

But as for not being selfish? Daily... I take time to make sure people get what they need on the site even if it is no benefit to me. And lets face it, honestly it isn't any benefit to me. It doesn't effect me if your CS gets approved, you get your NPCs, your gnosis, or even if you get your threads graded as a bottom line. But in the end you NEED all that stuff because its what's fair and right. So that's what I do.

And yes... these sorts of pm's come in. Why? I don't feel the need to kiss anyone's ass or pull any punches when people do things that are stupid. Why? Because we need more players like we need new holes in our head and people forget that respect has to be earned and isn't a privilage. Until we get more staff to handle the influx we have now, we are utterly dependent on those we have and the volunteerism (thanks guys your awesome!) we have going on in the form of grading, mentoring, etc.

This is a PM Septimus forgot to show you. She just showed you what she wanted you to see in her little tirade this morning. If you missed it? I'm sure someone will have a screen capture somewhere. She had herself a week ban that turned into a perm ban with this little gem. Why? No mod anywhere in their right mind needs to take this kind of talk. Especially not after they just burned two hours trying to help them get something they neither needed to survive the game or had really thought through.

Hey bitch

Hey bitch. Honestly, there's more where I came from. Really? Banning me for trying to calmly explain how you ca onto me like that? Are you really that damn childish? You seriously have issues and might want to consider growing the fuck up. Maybe that's why everyone leaves you and your childish ass.

Honestly, I can freely express my opinion and you honestly you have some severe mental issues. You ask for a review and I gave it. I wanted to discuss a simple item that I worked hard to earn and you want to act like an entitled over dramatic brat. Hate to break it to you but you're not always right and I hope whoever nursed that idea rots in hell.

You are the most unprofessional egotistical self centered bitch I think I've ever met. Grow the fuck up, pit your big girl panties on and realize that other people have other opinions and you're not always right.

Have a wonderful life. <3Septimus

Its shit like this that makes me want to walk away. I particularly love the little LOVE symbol at the end. Look, girl... could you make yourself look like any more of a douche? I think even that would be hard for me to do.

Let me refute a few things. I don't need to be professional. This is a hobby site. You don't pay to play here and you come here and agree to play here under our terms. Do I have an ego? Not much of one, but then again, you'd know that if you knew me. Am I a bitch? Not particularly. I come off saying what I think and if that makes you this upset, then you really have a lot of growing up to do yourself before you go accusing other people of it. Look, you were the one that not once but two or three times dropped all roleplay to go get busy with your real life without a 'sorry guys X came up' or anything to your partners. All folks have to do is look at your post history to see the dumps. You came back both times with a real attitude of privilege. I get it. You deserve things. We all do. But you don't deserve any different treatment here than you get from anywhere else.

Put in the time, do something less self serving, and then maybe throw a fit and people will pay attention. They won't with you acting like this over an artifact that any drykas could have told you wouldn't work with a saddle on a horse. To me its utterly ridiculous things escalated like this over an item you wanted suddenly and then didn't like once you'd had it.

Typical signs of a princess anyone? So... I suggest on the next site you visit, Septimus, you ask questions first, make sure you are clear on things, then make your purchases instead of wasting a mod's time and energy that was best served elsewhere. I'm just glad it won't be here.

And as for me being burned out and tired of this shit... I think that's what certain people want. They want Miz to go down because I implode and they know that's the only thing keeping this site going full steam. Well... let me assure you... and this might upset you but its the truth. The last site I ran I ran for 17 years solid without a break and loved every minute of it. And I was a whole lot younger and a whole lot more ignorant of people and their ways on the net. That site makes this one look like a cake walk. MIz is going into its seventh year.... in August we will have another anniversary. That means I'm not even halfway through it. Sure I might get a little bitchy, a little burned out, or a little downtrodden... but I will always be here running things. Tha'ts either good news for you or bad news... but its news.

And you know... the first seven we've done nothing but increased our numbers, our players, our staff and improved our lore and policy. I think the next seven will be just as fantastic and just as filled with stories. And to each and every one of you I have one wish.

I hope you all have a character that you love as much as I love mine. And I hope you have YEARS and STORIES to show for the years invested like I do. You'll have delight, excitement, a love of writing, skill power, ic wealth in whatever form you desire (money, friends, family, an organization), and a real sense of achievement after all that time. You can't have anything BUT those things if you play the game right.

So to all you haters out there? Keep hating. You are only bringing yourself down. But if you one day pull your head out of your ass and figure a few things out, we'll be here, thriving, like we always have!
