Vanwen Frostfawn Basic Information Race: Vantha Birthday & Age :Season of Fall, Day 1, 494 AV (17 years old) Gender: Male. Languages Language 1: Fluent Vani Language 2: Basic Common Physical Description Van's eyes are the first thing people from outside Avanthal notice about him. A rich violet most of the time, his eyes brighten or darken depending on his mood, his feelings at the time, or the lighting or time of day. It is the most expressive part about him, the physical expression he has most trouble controlling. His hair is a similar fascination. It is dark and long, grown down to below his shoulder blades, but tied back into a tail in back. In front, two strands come down either side of his face, ending just above his chin. It is a deep black, with a blue tint which seems to shimmer in his hair as it moves. His skin is tanned by most standards, but in terms of the Vantha it is a pale. He is tall and slender, perhaps too thin, lacking defined muscles but hiding his frame behind dark, baggy clothes. His torso is marked by a scar from an encounter with a wild animal in the course of protecting one of his younger sisters. It is three separate lines on the left side of his stomach, stopping short of his navel. His face is more angular than the typical Vantha, particularly in the nose and the jaw. Van often looks out of place even in situations where he is comfortable. His posture is formal, hands often clasped behind his back if standing, his mouth pressed into a line without expression. Van's favorite part of himself is the Gnosis mark of Morwen on the inside of his right forearm. Character Concept Vanwen grew up being taught that a life lived without serving a higher purpose isn't worth living. He has Morwen, his dream of joining the Icewatch, and creating a family that will continue the work that his own parents did in creating a new generation of people who want to leave a positive mark on the world. This idealistic outlook is hid, however, behind a reserved, stoic demeanor he developed in response to living with so many extroverts. He is slow to make friends, and slower to offer information about himself, offering only what he feels would be impolite to withhold. He fades into the background in group conversations, and is slightly more open when speaking one on one. The friends he does make he trusts nearly unconditionally, mentally considering them part of his family. He isn't actively looking for a wife, but inevitably thinks, idly, how a woman's attitude, attributes and personality would match with his. He has experience in tracking and hunting, mostly within the woods near Frostfawn. Alone, it is the one place which he can emotionally let his guard down, even if he must be constantly be alert to physical dangers. He has killed before, all predators which would otherwise cause harm to his people. He does not fight if he can help it, though will not hesitate to kill to protect others. His fighting style is defensive in nature, using his sword to attempt to deflect then counterattack. His footwork is important to his swordsmanship, and something he practices with as much diligence as the strikes of his sword. Character History Vanwen grew up as well as anyone could expect to in these times. He had a stable home, parents who loved him, and a veritable brigade of familial relatives. In response to their exuberance, he grew up withdrawn, content to watch the rowdy activities of others rather than try to outdo it. His father, a hunter and a tracker, was a stern paternal role model. Van learned much of what he knows from him, and while he loves him, that love is blunted by the necessity of the respect needed from trainee to trainer. He had a much closer relationship with his mother, who taught him a basic education, the literary traditions of her family, her skills with carving and, most importantly, about Morwen and the ways in which to honor and follow her. His personality aligns closely with hers, though without the quick temper and outgoing nature. He began going out into the wilderness at age 8, only on known paths and accompanied by an adult. From their he progressed slowly, gaining knowledge of the terrain and methods of survival. At 12 he was allowed to go into the forest alone for the purposes of surveying traps and checking for tracks of potential predators, but was forbidden from actively tracking them. At 14 he was allowed to join in on the hunt, though forbidden from directly challenging any of the targets. Finally, at 16 he was allowed out on a solo hunt for a limited number of targets. Six days after he killed for the first time. His youngest sister had wandered off on the back of a sleigh dog, ending up on the fringes of the forest. Van had come upon her just as the sleigh dog threw her from his back and ran from a predator. He received a wound to the stomach and had his sword broken, but managed to kill the beast before it could harm his sister. Finally feeling like an adult, Van is searching for some impetus to begin the next part of his life. He wants to travel, but leaving home is a more daunting proposition than he first thought. First things first, he needs a new sword. And a job... Training (Skills, Arcana, Gnosis, Lore) Skills
