As she sat there, tears trickling over her face, several creatures had gathered near the staircase. At first they merely stared at the horned woman who still sat waistdeep in the water with her face burried in her hands, trying to ignore the fear and situation she was in. Then it started...Shouts, insults and even rocks started to rain upon her. Luckily for her, most of the rocks were purposely missed because they didn't want to anger this unknown "monster" too much.
Oddly enough this monster didn't fight back or became enraged, the horned woman just sat there, shielding herself with her arms and hands, in silence. She had no other choice really, she couldn't swim back into the sea because she had already realized that she couldn't breathe beneath its blue, liquid surface and the blue territory expanded as far as the eye could see. Her other "option" was to face her assailants somehow or run through them and try to reach a safehaven.
She tried to stand up but just as she pushed herself up with one arm, a rock hit home and hit the unguarded area of her face. The blunt impact wasn't severe but it encased her in a trembling state of fear and her plans of running through them were lost in the despair.
She peered through her guarding arms and her eyes screamed that she was confused, scared and sad. Like a puppy who can't get back home. Inbetween the angry faces of the creatures, one of them seemed different. His eyes didn't speak of anger or evil intent, they were filled with thoughts and remorse. Aquila didn't understand completely why he seemed like he felt remorse, maybe it was for his comrades' actions or because he didn't do anything about what was happening to her. Their eyes were locked for a very short while and with a silent agreement, the large man started to shout in a bolsterous voice and halted one of the other men in his tracks, gripping the man's wrist and holding back his throw of yet another rock.
" STOP! FOOLS! This is no monster, nor evil creature! "
He stared at Aquila as he spoke, who was looking back at him with big, scared eyes.
" She is an Ethaefal, a being of the divine! " He said rather softly with a tone of respect and fear intertwined.
' She? You're full of sheit, Guss, she's nothing more than a monster from the depths of the seas, washed upon our harbor! ' One of the women said, she gave Aquila an icecold and loathing look. Possibly out of jealousy for her beauty since the woman was more man'ish than most of the men in the group.
" Ingrid...She is an Ethaefal and I will not allow any man or woman to lay another hand on her. Consider this my only warning, to all... Or do you want me to speak to your husband about that sailor you've been frequenting lately, Ingrid?! "
The woman opened her mouth and if looks could kill, Guss would no doubt be struck by lightning, but they can't and Guss pushed the people near the staircase apart and walked down towards Aquila.
" I am sorry. " Guss said as he sat down a few steps above the sealevel.
" Thank you, you saved me...Guss. " Aquila spoke softly and without looking him in the eye, she was still trembling with fear and didn't fully trust her savior yet.
" Come. I mean you no harm, Ethaefal. " He said as he stretched out his arm and offered her a hand.
Silently she placed her wet hand into that of the man and grabbed her only belonging, the small crate, before standing up and walked up the staircase. The moment she was completely out of the water, she felt a weird sensation.
Something was happening. |
