A surreal cavern city inhabited by Symenestra where stones glow and streets are reams of silk. Cocoon like structures hang between stalactites and cascade over limestone flows in organic and eerie arabesques. Without a Symenestra willing to escort you, entrance is impossible.

Timestamp: Spring 15th, 499 AV Location: Training cocoon building leading from a cord bridged from the The Sickle and Arrow.
It was always lovely to watch, the crescents of illumination opalgloams along the caverns causing the dim surroundings to give a soft relaxing array. Walking along a simple cord Demetri was going over the days lessons of the Viratas from his uncle. Slowly one foot followed the other as his body seemed more relaxed then a teen aged boy should be. Overlooking the endless drop to the floor below Demetri’s mind however, was far from relaxed. As the only child his sterile father had it was his time to learn how to defend himself for future harvests or hunts to protect the web from the things that lurked in the dark abyss of the city. Despite his troubled mind, his composure was that of a analytical leader, standing erect and perfectly composed, with both hands behind his back. However, despite how hard he had tried to hide this, he knew these sessions meant something.... Even already having started his hypnotism training.
Making his way along the last potion of the bridge he made it to the top of the cocoon while looking over his shoulder to the building he had just walked through. The Sickle and Arrow was to him am incredibly entertaining place to come in his time off from his basic class studies. Entering the cocoon through a simple spiral stair case that seemed to narrow then widen out until the stairs themselves were along the side of the cocoon’s wall. Exiting the bottom of the stairs the room opened up into a large circular area that was completely empty other then small notches along the walls that held simple chests full of weapons.
In the center of the room stood a man who held a devilish grin on his face whom Demetri was here to meet.
“Greetings, son~ Speak in common today, you are lacking in the finer aspects of the tongue as of late.” Vandavon Velutina, Demetri’s father stood in the dead center of the room inside of a well weaved floor that marked a battle the inbounds for a battle area along the white weaved floor. Shaking his head Demetri sighed in agreement as he searched for the words to uses, for most people at his age his common was advanced enough to relay sarcasm, irony, and grammatical errors then correct himself if need be. Though he did prefer his native tongue. ”You do know, My common is perfect.” The arrogance in his voice seemed to echo superiority, it was as if he was challenging his father to see who could always out do each other with words. For all there flaws, they were a close nit web. ”And yet I heard the you where shot down by that one fidgety girl who wants to be a aerial dancer.” A sudden frown came to Demetri’s face as his father began to chuckle loudly. It was uncanny how much Demetri and his father looked alike, if one were to stand them next to each other it was as if Vandavon had his childhood self standing next to him and vice versa a future version of Demetri. ”That doesn’t count. She was not my type.” His father quirked a brow in though before scrunching his face in amusement. ”So you have a type now? Never mind, I don‘t even want to know…” Vandavon waved for his son to come closer as he picked up two things off of the ground next to him. "I have taught you much though not how to defend yourself... Never breaking his speech he held up a whip to Demetri as he continued. "That, that is going to change starting today" Blinking Demetri took the whip in hand with a 'are you serious' look on his face."whip fighting? how is this going to help? Why not a bow, or even a sword? How can I go into combat with this?"
At first, Demetri didn't have a clue what happened. There had just been speaking when something jerked along his body; the paradigm shift that he couldn't quite begin to explain became clear as the haze cleared in his mind. What was around his neck? His eyes followed a rope that ended in the hand of his father. A single yank cause the whip to tighten around his neck causing Demetri to gasp for air as he heard his fathers voice. "Because, a bow is to far away to be of any use in a public place or effect someone hypnotically and a sword is to close for such a fragile body to prolong intense combat. I swear boy, you are an idiot for wanting to battle a knight or isur in combat." With a flick of his wrist the whip just slacked up causing Demetri to inhale sharply. When he could speak he raised a hand with his index finger pointing straight into the air. "Point taken, duly noted, and all other phrases that express affirmation." |

Demetri had a adequate understanding of what he was being prepared to do in his future. Even an understanding of the Viratas though he would admit, it is vague to him thinking the nature of Viratas as connected to sustenance and violence and prospering as a community though purging the people not worthy of blood life. Though it might have been agains his father knowing that he visited rituals that spilt blood in an honorable fashion, even feasting on a piece of a sacrifice. The large perspective of life that most shared was almost like a predestined existence, laid out by the pattern of what had come before. Did no one want to prove their worth? Did no one have aspirations for life? Call it teenage rebellion or a path to a new beginning but Demetri would show that he embraced the life, the blood, the worth of having it coarse through his veins. If a whip was needed to protect his life, to save the worth, and end the sacrosanct bodies that held the holy liquid then he would learn to use the weapon well.
”You must learn your range.” His father spread the whip along the ground to its full length. Demetri took his own whip in hand then rolled it out. It didn’t take long for Demetri to figure out the length of the whip. His father went on to explain the first trick to use in his arsenal, like cracking a whip to distract large beast and people alike to emit an air of intimidation. “There are many ways to to this. One is with the whip docile in a coiled roll but that will be for you to learn later. First, hold the whip with your dominant hand to lay perfectly straight, trailing behind you. If you do this wrong…well you will understand why.” Demetri quirked a brow at that statement yet did as he was instructed. ” Swing your arm forward in an upward arch so your hand will come up to your shoulder. Technique is everything so make sure your palm is facing your body while your elbow is aimed at your target. Then in one quick motion pull your arm downwards to your side. Continue swinging up and down in a fluid motion. During the upswing, the whip should fully and firmly extend.
Demetri followed this instruction to the letter though inexperience was still a major factor. Pulling the whip from behind him the whip was quickly pulled into a sharp painful clack against the back of his leg when he pulled it. Hopping on one leg Demetri held onto the back of his as his father nearly died laughing. It made scenes now, his father knew it was going to happen and as the pain lessened Demetri did it again and again each time barely missing his leg until he figured out how not to hit his leg. ”REALLY! You could have said to just twist my wrist slightly to control the whip.” The aggravation was starting to show in his violet eyes as two hour passed until suddenly a large…. CRACK!!… Ended the lesson abruptly.
”Very good…very good.. But this lesson is far from over… though you have had enough for now.”
Were his fathers last words as they both went off to the The Sickle and Arrow to enjoy a drink. Hey in his fathers eyes Demetri earned some alcohol. |
