Basic Information
Name: Lirilazula
Race: Dhani
Sub-Race: Constrictor
Age: 101; Born 2nd Day of Winter, 408 AV
Gender: Female

Physical Description
At 5'6", Lirilazula is far from emaciated. Her form is carved with graceful muscle, well-carried and strong, pillared by an elegant bone structure most evident in the lines of her face, jaw, and neck. Prismatic blue-green eyes are shadowed by generous eyelashes, while her lips are heavy and seductive. Mingled between deep brown and auburn, her hair spills to her waist in dark, bronze waves, often tamed beneath a hood or into an ornate, but practical, chignon.

Her back is etched with the image of her snakeform, coiling between her shoulder blades and trailing down. When in Dhani form, the inking seems to bleed fluidly into scales down to her waist and beyond, until her lower half is a tail enveloped in ivory-gold-flecked serpentine skin.

Concept
Impassioned. Cunning. Unwavering. These are some of the words Lazula's students might use to describe her, if they are being kind. Her reputation as a rigid disciplinarian seems preposterous when one witnesses her in the throes of a frenzied ritual, or as a careful and even merciful practitioner of medicine. And yet she embodies all of these characteristics, striving for a balance. Lazula believes there is a place for control, and a place for excess. A place for emotion, and a place for logic. She prefers to handle each separately and carefully, never allowing one to trump the other, or even mingle together too far, lest one become uncontrolled, and dangerous. Except when her fiery temper is ignited, that is - then all bets are off.

History
Lirilazula, or "Lazula," comes from a long line of priestesses. Her mother, however, did not answer to the call of the priesthood, preferring to live her life indulging in one pursuit of pleasure: breeding. And breed Nesphyriliri did, hatching four daughters before Lazula and one after.

ImageLazula's older sisters are all just that: older, and much older, and had children of their own even before Lazula was born. Lazula was born very late in her mother's life, and thus spent most of her childhood left to herself and to her own desires. While this sort of carelessness had bred "lazy, indulgent wenches" of her older sisters, Lazula sniffed her nose in disgust at them all, for all they did with their lives was produce snakelings: something any Dhani woman could do. While reproduction is widely celebrated and viewed as admirable, one of Lazula's foremost flaws was formed as an indifference to producing heirs. Her sisters, in turn, treated her with contempt, if they acknowledged her at all, resentful and jealous of the young Dhani who was showing such promise.

She spent her childhood in longing. She grew fiercely devoted to Siku as a mother figure, and vowed to continue the cycle of priestesses in her family legacy. Bringing herself up hardened her. As she flourished into a young woman, she became confident, self-sufficient, and opinionated.

ImageLazula does not know of her father, though she suspects he is alive and well amongst the elders. Her mother used and discarded him, as Dhani women are known to do. In fact, when Lazula was 66 years old, her mother hatched another daughter. Perhaps it was the excessive breeding, or just a weakened life cycle, but the girl was born a runt. Nesphyriliri named her Sylthea, and left her to die. Then, in old age, she shriveled up and died herself.

Lazula cannot explain, nor does she even understand, herself, why she spared Sylthea, who would certainly prove useless, weak as she was. But when she found the little hatchling left for dead, she took it into her care. Though Sylthea grew to be mute and sickly as a child, Lazula seems to have a tender spot for her - though she will hardly admit it - and lets the girl trail in her wake.

Throughout the rest of her young womanhood, Lazula stood her ground, and stood it well, honed her intellect, and was made a priestess and teacher of medicine at the age of 100.

Her intellect is balanced with her fascination with ritualism, a cruel and passionate practice. Her blood beats in her veins for sacrifice. If there is one thing she wants to be known for as a priestess, it is this. She aspires to be a ritualist favored by Siku amongst all others.

Sylthea

Sylthea is the youngest sister of Lazula, born sickly and left to die by her mother. For reasons Lazula cannot logically explain, she felt led to spare Sylthea from death, and from that moment on has acted as her protector.

Sylthea is a youngling Dhani, aged in her thirties. Much of the time, she is in great pain, but she does not wallow in her illness. By nature, she is puckish and curious.

In Dhani and Human forms, she resembles an adolescent child. She is small with pixie-like features, but wan and weak in coloring, with pale skin and scales and mousy, bedraggled hair. A thin fringe flops into her eyes constantly. She often favors snake or Dhani form, as she has poor use of her legs and moves best when slithering.

While she is capable of making strange sounds and hisses to communicate, she is, for the most part, mute. Unless one knows her well, translation of her sounds or gestures is required by Lazula in order to understand. As a result of her struggle to communicate with others, early on, Sylthea took to mimicking the sounds and expressions of other people. With time and practice, this child's play has evolved into a talent for disguise and impersonation that Lazula believes to be incredibly full of potential. It is, perhaps, Lazula's answer for why she was led to save the girl. Such brilliance in studying and impersonating others and convincingly disguising herself to be who she is not could prove to be one key against enemies. Fooling, infiltrating, spying, stealing, or even just escaping - there are many possibilities.

While the rest of the nest despises or dismisses the existence of Sylthea, Lazula is convinced that the girl will, one day, be one of their best kept secrets. And she intends to patiently shape her into a master of her craft.
