[Syliras Location] Traveler's Row

Postby Airil on September 18th, 2010, 8:54 pm

18th Day, Fall of 510 A.V.

Following the guard's directions, Airil had no trouble finding Traveler's Row or the apartment that served as its office. As she entered, she found herself staring into a face that, though older, was not very much unlike her own.

Matilda smiled warmly from across the desk, “Well, hello dear. What can I do for you?”

“I was told this was where I could rent a place to stay.” Airil shifted nervously from foot to foot.

“You were told right.” The Konti woman pulled out her book and began explaining the rooms and prices. Airil chose the simplest of the singles. “How long would you like to stay?”

“I, uhm...” Another question she was unprepared for. She frowned, “I don't know.”

“Well, you could pay for a few days at a time, or through the end of the season. If you decided to leave sooner, I'm sure we could work something out.”

Airil chewed on her lip and pulled out the purse of coins that her benefactor had left with her. It was quite heavy so she assumed she would have enough for the season, even if she wasn't sure she'd stay that long. She opened the bag and somehow managed to pale. She'd never had money of her own before and it seemed to her that the bag held a small fortune.

Matilda was watching her curiously so she pulled out five gold coins and placed them on the desk, trying to appear as if she handled money everyday. The other woman smiled and nodded.

“Very well, 50 days it is. So you'll need to come back down on the 68th if you need to stay longer.” She made a note in her ledger and retrieved a key, explaining the directions to get to the room. “Would you like me to show you the way?”

Airil, having already put away her money, took the key and shook her head. “No, thank you. I'm sure I'll find it.”

“Well, if you need anything, let me know. Feel free to drop by and have tea and cookies with me. I'd love to hear how your travels have gone since leaving the isle.” Airil offered a sad smile to Matilda, who hadn't really stopped smiling since Airil had arrived, and headed off to find her room.

[Syliras Location] Traveler's Row

Postby Colette Vicdor on October 4th, 2010, 1:22 am

OOCMy last completed thread took place in Summer 14, 510 AV and I need to catch up to the current season in order to keep my character believable - hence why I've timestamped this as Summer instead of Fall. If I'm doing anything wrong, please inform me.

Evening of Summer 14, 510 AV

His agreement with the entertainer still fresh in the memory, a tired Colette began towards Traveler's Row, but quickly found himself rather confused. It was of some difficulty locating the office by which he would pay for his room and get to sleep somewhere, but after realizing that he had passed the building twice, he made his entrance. Unconcerned for that which decorated the area, Colette paid little attention to anything except for the "woman behind the counter," to whom Colette assumed he would be paying. He paused somewhat hesitantly for a moment, not really used to this sort of service.

"Good evening. How may I help you?" She asked, since Colette hadn't said much. Her gentle tone of voice, although pleasant, sickened Colette. It reminded him of someone he may have known....

"I would like to rent out an inexpensive room" rolled straight out of his mouth before he thought of what he had just said. The woman's response was to explain the pricing in better detail for an impatient-seeming Colette. However, another question formed in his mind when she was finished.

"...If I may ask, what is the relationship between silver miza to gold miza?" Colette asked, his uncertainty for the worth of the local currency finally exposed.

However unexpected the question was, her calm response was "Ten silver mizas is equal to one gold miza."

Doing some quick math, Colette kindly, if rather impatiently, requested a simple single room for one hundred and fifty days of use. The price, having been deducted as 15 gold mizas, was counted out and handed to the woman. She began taking a few notes in her ledger, then handed Colette a key with a number - 11.

Colette's desire to leave her and head to his room made clear, she says, "Your room number is 11, sir. Have a--"

"Good day, madam," Colette interrupted as he took his leave. He would apologize later - maybe - but his desire to sleep far outweighed his interest in hearing anything else. He started to locate his room, where he would acquire his much-needed rest.

[Syliras Location] Traveler's Row

Postby Artos on October 6th, 2010, 6:56 pm

23rd day, Fall AV 510

Artos had been given directions to what he was told to be the most economical tavern. The word economical didn't mean much to him, but the guard had seemed pleasant enough. When he had reached the proper street he looked at all the various signs. His mind swam a little making the signs blur and and his eyes hurt.

Looking around himself he found a person who had been skirting around the large man frozen in the road. When Artos spoke the man gave a little start, not expecting to be noticed.

"Excuse me, which one of these is the Traveler's Row?" Artos would try to smile slightly, though it came out more as an ominous grin.

"That one," the man pointed it out then giving a smile through his unease continued on his way. The pace of the man had increased substantially.

Letting out a snort of exasperation he would continue walking to the door the man had indicated. He knew well enough that the counter would be where the person generally sold their wares. Though he had a slightly difficult time believing the woman to be a merchant. His own merchant bond had said that being a seller of wares was a mans profession. Then again the man had said many things Artos now questioned.

Walking up to the counter at his usually slow pace he would great her with a nod of his head. This was a process he was unfamiliar with, and he would allow her to lead the practice.

"Good evening, what can I do for you?" The words were pleasant and her posture was inviting and kind. Any sort of fear at the transaction began to melt away.

"I was told this was a good place to stay for the wayward person. I know little about these sort of things. I don't need much, a place to stay and perhaps a little extra room," at this last part he looked down at himself indicating his need for more space due to his size.

The woman nodded and taking out her book to indicate room rates and sizes.

Before she could start he tapped a finger gently on the counter to get her attention. "There is no need for that, I can't read. You seem kind, just tell me what you think I need. I don't know how long I'll be here before I may get taken away by work or adventure. 30 days should be a good start for now."

The reaction seemed pleasant enough and he couldn't help but like this woman. "Since you want size, one of our cheaper doubles will probably do. Now it costs 3 silver mizas a day, that'd be 90 for thirty days, or 9 gold mizas."

Nothing in her manner had given her alarm or reason to question what she said. He would pull out his money pouch and lay down a small handful of the coins. When she would count them she'd push three of the coins back to him. It was difficult to not know these things that seemed so basic to people, but he had never been taught to count or read, it hadn't been needed of him.

Picking up two of the coins he'd place them back in the pouch, "An extra for taking such good care of me, I know I'm a bit helpless at times."

She smiled again and accepted the tip before giving him directions to the room, and a key. "Thank you madam," was the simple exchange before he would walk on to the room. Finding the key to work easily enough he proceeded into the room and let his belongs fall to the floor.

It had been his initial hope to go see more of the city and find food on his first day here. Instead his weariness took over him and he would spend the rest of the evening and next morning in sleep. It was a good thing to be able to sleep deeply rather than on a knife edge between rest and waking. The forests had not been kind in giving him rest.

Postby Stag Fern on October 18th, 2010, 9:18 am

Finding this place was hard especially for someone like Stag in which case findng this place is almost impossible eventually he did find it but when he saw it he almost fell down. Stag was angry The building looks like any other building I swear I would have atleast painted it a different colour either way he went inside fuming. Inside it was kind of homely but right in front of him was a plate of cookies and stag was getting tired of berries and nuts after all. Stag literally flew towards the cookies and like any preadator began to bite on the soft spots of his prey. Perhaps in a previous life he was an animal or maybe even a kelvic the thought brought a smile to his face the cookies even touched his heart that he took back everything that he said earlier about this place.

Umm excuse me but are you here to stay and please... Stag turned around and saw a white haired lady smiling at him he blushed a bit but then she said in a very low tone ..quit wolfing down my cookies Kelvic. Stag heard this and immediately stood up towering over her and said I am no Kelvic Ma'mm I'm just a human like you and yes i would like to stay. 10 days. Well okay that's one Gold Miza if you don't mind she said in asoft tone but by then a gold miza was already in Stag's hand "Here you are who are you by the way" asked Stag. "I am Matilda Owens and i'm a konti here we go she handed Stag a key and then showed him his room This is where your room do make yourself at home and with that she was off.

Stag looked at his room it was cozy and nice when finally Stag spied a bed. He quickly dropped his things and jumped on his then quickly fell asleep.

1st Day of Fall, 510 AV

Pain surged through the door into the converted office of Traveler's Row, holding a somewhat massive bag that was tied off on one end. The metallic jingle was unmistakable. No one was within immediate sight, so Pain walked slowly to the front desk. She was busying herself with reading something about a bell when her nose, followed shortly thereafter by her eyes, caught sight of a table containing a tea pot, a few cups, and a plate full of cookies. Hunger. Pain nearly dropped her money bag in the scramble that ensured, thoroughly scorching her tongue with the hot tea and feverishly trying to remedy it by stuffing several cookies into her mouth. She felt like a child, but hey, the sign did say to help yourself, right?

Almost as an afterthought, Pain swatted at the bell. The ring was sharp, and whomever may emerge would find Pain holding a bag of money in one hand, and a cup of tea in the other. Not to mention the remains of several of the baked treats crumbled all over her shirt.

[Syliras Location] Traveler's Row

Postby Lozylir Wright Terras on December 18th, 2010, 2:00 pm

1 winter 510 av

The young Isur found the travelers row with ease after some people pointed it out but he would learn the layout of the castle sooner or later. His green eyes read the little sign of the rates with the side note of the discount. He knew that it would be 92 silver coins to rent a single basic room for the season but with the discount it would be 23 coins taken off so only 69 silver coins which came out to be 6 gold and 7 silver. However he wanted to have more then just the season in case he enjoyed it more so he would book a room for 9 more days for a total of 10 gold coins yet once again with the discount only 7 gold and 5 silver coins which he would then round to 8 gold coins for the simple fact tips were given.

He counted out the 8 coins from his pack and handed it to her for a key in return or if she wanted she could lead him to his new room. Either way he would not give her any trouble and just stay for a bit before he would pick up the habit of coming and going looking around the large castle once more and also resting for the most part. He would spend most of his time working in the forage most people would find.

Postby Branwen on January 8th, 2011, 12:46 am

Season of Winter, Day 37, 510 AV

"Lovely," Branwen said as she walked in. "Now where...? Ah." She rang the bell, and a Konti immediately stepped in. "I'd like to stay here until the end of Spring, 511, in a simple single room, please."

The Konti nodded. Branwen handed her 14 Gold Mizas and 6 Silver Mizas. "That should be enough." The Konti told her the room number and handed her the keys. "Thank you." She grinned.

Ara took her backpack with spare clothes and all she needed during her travels, her violin case, her rapier and her daggers, though she knew not where she could use the sword and left home. Her parents were not present as they had said this was merely a goodbye and they didn't want to get teary eyed for nothing. Only a month after this, when she would leave Syliras for her travels they would say farewell, now she was simply moving by herself in a new place.

Heading straight to the Traveler's Row, Ara knew perfectly well what she needed. A simple, single person room where she could get used to staying by herself. She walked to the clerk and smiled brightly.

"I'd like to book a room for 30 days please." She took out three gold mizas and handed them to Mathilda Owens "This should be the right price?" she asked uncertain, but the owner simply smiled and took the money.

"Come with me." Mathilda said and led Ara to a simple room with all the necesary arrangements made for the young woman. "Here it is, your room." Ara nodded simply and walked to the closet throwing her bag inside. She then placed her rapier next to the bag and her violin and the desk smiling to herself.
"This is it. Finally on my own."

[Syliras Location] Traveler's Row

Postby Dlight on February 21st, 2011, 11:27 pm

30th Winter, 510 AV

Light was retreating fast below the horizon and Dlight needed to find shelter. If it had only been him that he needed to protect, he would have taken to the wilderness outside Syliras's gates, however now he had something else to protect-- his violin. His clawed hands carried it's case effortlessly and carefully, his steps slower than usual. He'd never carried something so precious.

The Traveler's Row was where he was headed. How long he intended to stay in the heavily guarded city, Dlight wasn't sure-- as well as how long he'd be welcome before him being Zith during the daylight caused trouble. He was on his best behavior, though, as he entered into the room designated as Matilda Owen's office.

The doorway was small considering he had to carry an instrument in as well, and Dlight paused for a moment before managing to bring both him and his violin inside the office. He'd only shut the door when a person he assumed was Matilda greeted him, making him startle. "Welcome, how may I help you?"

The woman was old, but she almost seemed young-- a Konti, Dlight recognized, definitely a Konti. His eyes went to her pale hair, looking at it in wonder and wishing that he was in any place but Syliras; it would have made a lovely addition to his loincloth. "Do you need a place to stay here in Syliras?" She continued, bringing Dlight's attention back towards what he came there for.

"A room for thirty days," He said automatically, coming up with a number that seemed reasonable, "No, thirty one." Dlight corrected himself, then remained quiet. The woman regarded him for a moment longer with silence should he decide to change the number once again, then smiled brightly at him. "That'll be thirty one silver miza." Her smile was met with a tired shrug, and Dlight handed her the equivalent in gold mizas, absentmindedly taking back the change and not even bothering to count it.

He closed his ears after that point, following her to the room that would be his for thirty one days.

[Syliras Location] Traveler's Row

Postby Vizyous Aconitum on March 2nd, 2011, 4:06 am

80th of Winter, 510 AV

It took less than a quarter of a bell for Vizyous to detach his mind from taking in how crowded Syliras had become and to locate the Traveler's Row. His practically empty bag was slung across a shoulder, having only a few grooming items, little miza, and his blanket left after being out on the Suvan Sea for nearly forty days. While his heart worried over his dwindling miza, his mind was set solely on sleep.

The old woman was a Konti that looked to be a friendlier, older version of Okama, and opened her mouth to greet him but seemed startled enough to let it stay open. Not wanting to deal with conversation, the Symenestra continued towards her, his legs unsteady. "Sleep," He merely said, the word seeming to hypnotize him before the cookies did. Needless to say, he grabbed two of them and shoved them in his mouth, chewing them even as his venom worked to turn them to mush.

The old woman was Matilda Owens, and her appearance hadn't changed much from when he last saw her. Without words the Symenestra withdrew three gold miza from his bag and threw them on the desk, his eyelids beginning to droop at just the thought of a bed.

"Follow me, young man," The owner told him, more than a touch of concern in her voice. Vizyous did as she said, his balance steadily growing worse partially from being so used to a rocking boat. From there on, not much could be recalled. The door to his new room was opened, he entered, and it shut. Perhaps he passed out on the floor or made it to the bed, but all Vizyous knew was he was finally in a deep, deep sleep in warm room that didn't sway with the water.
