41 of Fall 511AV Night time. It was something special about it, the fresh crisp air, the calm and peaceful feeling, it was the time of the day where everything just seemed serene, the moon hanging in the dark sky surrounded by stars was an alluring sight, like it had some sort of mystical feeling to it. Of course this was just a facade, the harsh circle of life still continued even as the day living creatures slept the night away as nocturnal predators woke up and went hunting under the light of the moon. The vague sound of small rodents and a rabbit or two that scratched around in the bushes and under the fire coloured leaves fallen from the trees, all of them too small to interest her so she just ignored them. An owl swooped past Zuri, barely making any noise as it dove like lightning at the forest floor, a high-pitched shriek cut the silence as the owl caught its prey. Zuri raised her muzzle and took in all the scents, a sudden urge to howl came over her, times like these she really felt the loneliness of her life much more than usual. She was a social animal after all, a wolf didn't care if it had a pack or only a mate, just the fact the it was not alone was enough and Zuri felt that gap in her life. Pushing away those thoughts she let her wolf instincts take over and tried to find any interesting smells instead, she had not eaten for a few days now and thankfully Zuri had improved a lot over the year she had been living on her own so it was not often she failed in her efforts and had to go to Syliras and buy food. Her muzzle twitched as she picked up an interesting scent, she had never smelled anything like it before and strangely it reminded her vaguely of something, an animal she had not encountered often, was it some kind of bat maybe? Stalking through the undergrowth Zuri placed her paws with utmost care to avoid any brittle branches or dry leaves, the dark didn't bother her at all in her hunt, her eyesight making it almost daytime for her. Making not much more sound than a small rodent Zuri treaded through the scarce trees and vegetation until she felt she was close enough to attack, straining her muscles she took a leap forward and ran full speed past some bushes. Zuri dug her paws into the earth to stop herself, the area was completely empty. Not an animal in sight. Looking around though she couldn't spot any living creature until she took a step forward without looking at the ground and a twig snapped, in the quiet night it echoed loudly making Zuri freeze in her tracks, somehow she felt cautious all off a sudden, her instincts told her to run but Zuri couldn't see anything out of place or dangerous. |
