Physical Description

Shai is only 5'2" and 95 pounds with amethyst eyes, she is never without her large black cloak. The cloak covers her from head to toe; keeping elongated limbs and her carefully grown out nails hidden.

If she is caught without her cloak or it is pulled away; she is wearing simple black pants, boots and a white shirt. She is lithe, almost to the point of looking malnourished, with a gentle webbing of veins visible beneath her ashen skin.

Character Concept

Knowing her value as a slave and as a cat burglar makes for a paranoid Symenestra and it's rare that she doesn't have at least two escape routes in mind. When she does steal though, she watches her mark for several nights, often hanging in a shadow on an adjacent wall. Although having no qualms about entering an occupied residence she often waits for the target to be securely asleep.

Shai prefers to keep to herself or associates. Shai's tolerance for people increases proportional to their usefulness. She has a complex social hierarchy that she keeps in mind in all social situations. To over simplify her views she values Symenestra above all over races, the more Sym blood the more respect she will show them.

The name of Shai's sire was Lavidis Nerium, but she notably refuses to have any surname. This is because she didn't simply leave Kalinor, she ran.

When Shai was younger, she always the black sheep among her web due to her eyes. While her entire web had brilliant red eyes, she'd been a throwback to older generations with amethyst eyes. While not at all unusual in public it was met with an awkwardness from her family. Her family considered their red eyes to be a blessing on their web by Viratas, and so they refrained from even mentioning the oddity around company

In 503 AV a season before her 18th year, Shai agreed to join webs with Dhalvasha Hysalv a doctor and childhood friend in Kalinor. Quickly after a child was sired on a Chaktawe surrogate. Ever the scientist, Dhalvasha spent his time with the surrogate watching the progress and performing tests. As was expected when the date of birth arrived, the mother was slain in the act. For five years the three lived well but all the while Dhalvasha grew more distant. However in the year 508 AV, things changed rapidly in the nest.

After returning from a delivery for her parent's tailoring business, Shai found the nest empty. Dhalvasha and her son, Vashka, were no where to be found. Missing with them were a number of essential every day items. When bells passed with no word, the mother sought out the guards and hunters. Eventually the entrance guards held the answer, Dhalvasha and Vashka had been seen leaving. For an entire year, Shai waited for their return. She drew herself close to her parent's nest and tried to reclaim her place with the family, in hopes of filling some of the chasm rent in her heart.

Shai sought out ways to be more and more devout, to prove to her web that she was not a blemish on their name. She worshiped Viratas and over time Shai began to worship not to prove to her family but to her god that she was worthy. It is in this mindset that Shai found the fringe fanatics worshiping Viratas in a new more bloody fashion and she quickly joined their ranks. It was several years until her web learned of her practices and after discovery by her family she kept at arms length. Horrified at herself because her efforts had pushed her farther away from her family than ever before. Shai fled and discarded her surname name in hopes that someday she could feel like she would deserve it. She fled across the surface to Alvadas where she purchased passage on a ship going as far as possible from her home, to a place she would never be recognized for her web; Sunberth.

During the several months the voyage took Shai learned much from her follow passengers, having been naive at first these months allowed her a buffer to learn about the city she was headed to. She learned that her skills would grant her a very solid income in Sunberth to the right people or become the wrong person's income. Upon her ships docking in Sunbreth she'd quickly realized the wrong people had noticed her and only scarcely escaped with her freedom.

She had witnessed cruelty and known violence in Kalinor, but the depravity of the people of Sunberth took some time for her to get used to. When she was finally accustomed she found that she liked the Sunberth atmosphere and took to the night streets with cautious vitality.

Shai's familiar, Chell is an Irylid. He met with Shai in late Fall 511 under some extremely dubious circumstances. Taking the familiar was the key to saving Shai's life that night, little did she know the repercussions that partnering with a familiar entailed. Shai's aversion to magic kept their relationships chilly for quite awhile. Chell occasionally speaks unbidden but only when he feels Shai is being rash beyond all logic, otherwise unless directed he general remains silent. There is some small kernel of companionship between them but it will require fostering in the years to come if it is to amount to much.

Chell's sealed form is that of a small gemstone which Shai usually keeps on a chain around her neck. She has been known to fashion him with a cord into her hair though and occasionally he simply rests in her hood in his natural form.

Lucian Hill is Shai's kelvic bondmate. She and the crow met in late Fall 514 av. It took both by surprise when the bond formed and for all its quick inception it has been slow to expand. The Symenstra has come to view the young man as something of a son and confidant. In the back of her mind resides the belief that someday he will leave her nest behind to pursue a full life, just like any son would.
