My own little place in the woods (Darik)

oocShush :p
Malogs entire body ached, and the wound at his side seemed to grip his lungs when ever he moved.
The man appeared to know what he was doing, for the best part at least, so Malog left him to his own devices and focused on watching the work being done whilst trying not to put too much pressure on the swelling.

He had little idea what was being done however, so as the various steps to building a hammock were completely confused in Malogs mind, and apparently, the mans mind also as he came crashing to the floor with the broken structure.
Chuckling lightly, Malog lay back and closed his eyes, and simply listened to the sounds around him. The odd animal could be heard far of in the woods running, cracking twigs and crunching dead leaves on the floor. The trees around him also groaned as a gentle breeze blew through them. The woods would have been peaceful, if not for the obnoxious man working on the hammock.

After a while of lying down, Malog cracked open his eyes and sat up, wincing at the sharp pain in his chest. He looked down and found the wound no better than earlier, not that he was expecting a miracle to have happened to it.
He noticed the hammock was in better shape as the man pulled one of the ropes and it formed a fancy looking knot, hopefully this one was a bit sturdier than the last attempt, or Malog would be sleeping on the floor after all.

He heard the command than man gave him, and also the insult, so reluctantly, he raised from the rock and looked for the best direction to start hunting. He did not know these woods very well, so could think of no 'best spot' to start from. Instead he picked up an arrowhead shaped stone and spun it in the air. It landed with the point heading in what he believed was a westward direction, so he figured he should head that way. He then made his way behind a tree to disrobe. He found hunting easier when in animal form, and had no trouble with his own nudity, however he doubted the mans openness to it, and so, he stripped down in private, then shifted into his Jaguar form.

Smiling as wry a smile as a jaguar could, Malog thought of a way he could get one over on the man for his earlier arrogance, without actually hurting him. Bounding out from behind a bush, he let out the loudest roar he could muster, hoping to scare the man witless. but before he could see the results of his efforts, or hear the string of insults thrown at him, Malog tore away to the west in search of food.

oocMine was late too :( so i guess we're even :D

My own little place in the woods (Darik)

oocYa, I knew about this thread and I was just too lazy to post. So it’s completely my fault this is insanely late. Sorry if you’re mad, but I am fine with it because you have reason to be.
The kelvic took off into the woods leaving Darik alone Before he could even start fixing the hammock a roar came out from a discernable direction. He spun around in a full circle looking for were the sound came from. He had heard that once before, mainly from another kelvic jaguar called Talbot. ”Come on scoundrel, fight me. You’re scared aren’t you? I messed you up last time we met, and I will mess you up again.” He waited, but nothing of interest came out to in response of his challenge. After a calming breath he went back to work. If a jaguar came into the clearing it would be met with Darik’s fury.

He had four remaining yards of fabric left. That was a lot. Could he do anything beside an overhang? Only time would tell. First, he still had to make the overhang. For this he repeated the first step of the hammock making. Mainly, combining the two separate pieces of fabric. Then, he had to drastically change his strategy. He didn’t want the overhead to droop, he wanted it to remain stiff. So this time he cut many holes on the edge of the fabric. Soon, he divvied out two pieces of rope. They were long enough that they could thread through all the loops and still have a generous amount left over.

After the rope’s sinewy strings rested against the fabrics rough stitched material, Darik tugged it over to the hammock. He was faced with another problem, this one much more insulting than the last. He was much too short to hang the rope on the tree and still have the overhead at a good distance. Being a problem solver, it only took him a few seconds to find a stool. He brought over one of the taller rocks from the barrier and placed it at the base of the tree. Quickly, he replicated the knot he had used before to hang it on the tree. On the other side, after he moved the stone, he pulled the rope tight. He wanted it be straight so it would provide the hammock the most cover area. Because of all the holes, after it was tied to the tree it was mostly straight, with a bit of a lag on the sides. No big deal though, it still protected all the important parts.

Next, he got the waterproofing oil. He poured it on the fabric and pushed on the bottom of the fabric to save him time. He didn’t want to move the stone again. That was the kelvic’s job. Soon the overhead was dosed with the waterproofing oil. Darik had a feeling that his invention would save the kelvic many uncomfortable nights.

He still had two yards of fabrics left. What would he do though? A brilliant idea dawned on him, and it didn’t take long to replicate. All Darik had to do was cut holes on the far side of each piece of fabric. After replicating that on the overhead, he then threaded rope on it. Soon a masterpiece was formed. It was a hybrid between a tent in a hammock, and it combined the strengths of both without any of its weaknesses! The hammock kept you from sleeping on rocks, the overhead kept you dry, and the sides of the overhead made it so rain wouldn’t collect on the top and mess up the overhead.

The kelvic still wasn’t back though. What to do? The kelvic’s money was perched against the base of the tree basking in the shade. Would it hurt to just take a peek in it to make sure anything hadn’t been stolen? Nope, it was part of his job as a good person. He stealthily went to it and opened it up to see how much money the kelvic had.

oocUninspired but I felt bad about making you wait so long.
modI am not sure waterproofing oil actually works on fabric, but Darik does. :P If you’re a mod and reading this please do tell in the grading report. :P
