Birth: Spring of 483 AV (Age 29)
Race: Human, male
Origins: Zeltiva
Height: 5'10''
Weight:155lbs

Physical Description
As far as looks goes, Elias isn't all that bad. Short brown hair, a clean stubble and a serious preoccupied look gives him the upstanding citizen air of one who minds his own business. His hair is more often than not pulled back, disordered without being messy. Elias has a friendly face, with inquiring eyes and a faint smile always there to lighten the mood. Build-wise, he is far from large when it comes to the shoulders but signs of training would be apparent if not for the coal-colored coat he wears in permanence.

Personality
Elias' attitude fools more than one. Playing the composed, aloof scholar, he tries to appear calm and detached while it's quite the opposite deep inside. Elias has an underlying fragility that he believes doesn't have its place in the world. However, he cannot deny his true nature and can only hope to find peace through his own strengths, which have yet to be fully exploited. One such strength would lie in his innate perceptive abilities. Elias is indeed a very sensible person. Sensible to other people's emotions about as much as he is to his environment. Noise, smell, light...pain; His tolerance to those is lower than most. Likewise, his sleep is light, and easily troubled. In group, Elias observes to better react. One learns much on someone by the way he speaks, what expression she bears and how they react to any given situation. Thus, unless pursuing a specific objective, he'll usually let people come to him, instead of reaching out to them. He knows very well what kind of person is worthy of his time...and who to cast away for his own good.

There's also that habit Elias couldn't do otherwise but pick up, mainly since both his role-models were so fond of what they did. He keeps others guessing, doing so by all kinds of physical expression. This can be quite frustrating at times, especially during an important conversation. He doesn't do it out of malice. It's simply a habit developed after years of living with one mystery of a man. When Elias devotes himself to a cause or to the pursuit of a goal, it is with great commitment he proceeds.

Character Concept

Among many things, Elias wants answers. Some of the biggest questions of his life have yet to be answered. Why is he the way he is? What exactly does Rykar see in him and what comes next? While a mystery calls for another, these have been haunting Elias since he left Zeltiva in a journey to find himself, a journey that happened to pass through Riverfall, where Elias met someone who would try his hardest to bring the best out of him, as his friend and mentor.

There are a few things important to Elias. First and foremost, his friend Rykar (and his dark-brother Syphero) holds a position of choice in the man's heart. Next is his autonomy. Because if Elias hates one thing, it's to be a burden. Right after that is an uncertain calling for Akajia's cause. He calls himself a follower but how far is he willing to go for her sake?

Elias has a fascination for the Akalak. Their strength, intelligence, the conflict behind their duality and the immense courage it must take to live through each day when some, if not all of them have potential killers just under the surface. He aspire to be as close to them as possible, a reality that has been so for the past eleven years now. He effectively walks the streets of Riverfall as if he'd always lived there.

According to Elias, morals tend to be...restrictive at best, and deadly at worst. In this particular line of thought, one would be better off with flexible principles and a good dose of self-indulgence, wouldn't he? That's why he doesn't try to uphold all those noble principles of courage, honesty and the downright arrogant attitude that comes with it. His own code is in constant evolution, adapting to situations as they come along. Life itself is way more important than the upholding of some abstract, ill-defined morality concepts.

Character History

Answers aren't the driving force of the world, questions are. If you know to ask the good questions, you are well on your path to truth. Remember that Elias, when you leave to seek out your truth. Remember to ask the good questions. - Rykar, mentor and dearest friend

Origins

There’s this thing that must be understood when it comes to wizard families, even the newest ones; especially the newest ones: they’ve lured themselves in believing that talent runs through blood, their blood. This raises a question: What happens to the one born without such talent where it is valued most?

Zachariah Cavell never wanted a family. What he needed, was a legacy. His own father had laid the groundwork. He would raise the walls. In order for his enterprise to succeed, he married to a shipwright’s daughter as soon as he graduated, and four sons were born of their union. Whether he loved her or if she was but a mean to greater ends, only he knows. Maybe he did love her. A very perceptive woman that one, able to read people simply by looking at them with those limpid eyes she passed down to all four of her children. Needless to say, the boys spent their childhood trying to live up to the expectations of a man obsessed with achievement. From a young age, three excelled at the discipline Zachariah had chosen for them. Competition for recognition was fierce…and unhealthy. The fourth one, a shy kid by the name of Elias, was seemingly born in the wrong family.

Elias could walk at age two, speak coherently as soon as he turned four and learned faster than any of his other brothers, something Zachariah was well aware of. But when three concentrated on books way too complicated for their ages, one was busy exploring the world. Unfortunately, patience wasn't the man's forte. He would burst out in anger whenever he caught his son outside of the study during reading hours. The boy grew without support his parents’ support, distant interactions with his brothers and a sentiment that he was a stranger in his own house. Lady Cavell didn’t survive the birth of her fourth child.

Seasons passed and young Elias entered adolescence, upon which he officially stopped trying to satisfy his father, who finally realized that he wouldn’t get what he wanted the way he wanted it. He offered an alternative to morphing, which was the discipline Elias was supposed to study and the man’s own field of expertise. He finally decided on auristics. To this day, this is probably the only arcane art he'll manage to learn, but who knows? Elias enjoyed mitigated success in this new pursuit, since he had to rely on books again, and there was no one to teach him through actual practice. By that time it was clear that Elias wasn’t going to make it to the university, so he was free of his time by the time he turned 17. It was also at that time that Zachariah’s health started to deteriorate.

When it had become certain that their father wouldn’t get better, Elias began to envision his future in Zeltiva. He neared the age where he'd need to bring something of his own to this household. He certainly wouldn't feed off his brothers' efforts but couldn't find a suitable profession to dedicate himself too. Upon weeks of reflection and still no hint of an answer, he concluded that he'd have to go, leave the city behind. The obvious choice being Syliras, he announced his intention to Lois, the elder son, before departing with a merchant caravan. Elias was 19 at that time.

Syliras provided some answers, but raised even more. Elias had the chance to compare his own upbringing with people of various interests and confessions. His interest in books rekindled, as he could now choose his material. He rediscovered history treatises he'd been forced to read when he was 6 and found them endlessly entertaining, whereas he'd discretely escape the study back then. At some point he discovered the Akalak, and was fascinated by them. He knew he'd found his next destination shortly after, in order to learn more about them, and about himself.
