Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

65th Day of Autumn, 511 AV

It felt glorious as they rode into Riverfall. The city was tiered down the cliffs, the great waterfall that gave it it's name plunging through the centre. Ronan couldn't help but smile. His eyes had grown so accustomed to Endrykas, and endless grass. This was fresh and new. This was glorious.

The sun was beating down. That thin warmth of Autumn still prevailing, but the feeling that winter's slight chill was coming to the region of Cyphrus. Creeping closer, it was inevitable.

He turned to Leto with a smile. "Isn't it magnificent?" This was the city of the Akalak, the dark skinned warrior race. They were a proud people, but they were also strange and mysterious in their own way. "Perhaps we should seek out supplies first... we could even rent rooms in an inn tonight - it would give us more time to search."

He pulled Tairell to a stop, gazing out at the city. There was a lot of activity among the streets. The Akalak were certainly eye catching, but they were not the only one's here. Riverfall had its fair trade of visitors, much more so than the moving tent city he called home.

"And at some point... you're going to need to remind me of how to perform Webbing. Sama'el showed me the basics, but only the very bare bones. If you could teach me just a little, then we might be able to find some trace of him in the city."

Traces in Riverfall [Leto]

Leto nodded at Ronan, as he spoke in their native language Pavi to him. "Do you understand common? The best I speak it as in broken bits..." he said, though perhaps this might be a chance for him to improve his usage of common, and learn a little bit more about it, as he had been raised to speak Pavi for most of his life, and the little common he knew was from the stranger that had taught him the basics of summoning. "And yes, it is most magnificent!" he replied looking towards the waterfall that flowed down the walls.

"They certainly have done a great job in the creation of this city..." he finished as they began to ride into the city of Riverfall. Turning towards Ronan when he spoke to Leto of the web, Leto smiled, and said, "Of course, i'm but a beginner myself, but I can help show you your way around in the web... It's truly an amazing experience, and i'm sure we'll be able to gain some trace of Sama'el that way..." Smiling, he would turn his head back to the waterfall. Arias neighed a bit as they approached the city, and he patted him on the neck.

"We'll have to find a good place to keep our striders for the evening and night, I'm not sure I trust these folk enough to watch after Arias... but I guess I'll have to start trusting people sometime..." he said to Ronan, wondering if there was such a place they could keep their striders at until the morning, while they began their search for where Sama'el might have gotten off to. Turning his head towards Ronan, he smiled and said in Pavi, "Where shall we go first? I think you are right in that we should stock up on supplies for the journey north..."

As he spoke, he stalled Arias, and looked at Ronan waiting patiently for an answer, hoping he would take the lead as Leto wasn't a very good leader, and didn't want to really take the lead on this expedition. He would if need be, being the elder of the two Drykas, but that was only if he needed to, if he could get Ronan to do so, he would gladly defer to him instead of doing it himself. It might be good for Ronan anyways, to learn how to lead people if he truly wanted to be apart of the Watch, to become that beacon of light the Drykas people would look up to in the future. Leto thought about that, and then gave Ronan a bit of a smile as he did, his obsidian gaze lying to rest upon the man as he then turned it to look out around the city of Riverfall...

"I can speak Common reasonably well so don't worry, we'll get by."

He sighed, taking in the air. They were at the Suvan Sea, and the air was so different. Somehow, it felt fresher and cleaner.

"I have to be honest, I'm not sure what kind of accommodation they have here, I'm hoping for some sort of inn with stabling facilities. I'm sure we'll find something. And your help with Webbing would be appreciated, friend."

Friend. He had begun to use the word with Sama'el, and now he was applying it to someone else. It felt strange, but right. The mark of social change within his heart.

"Look at us both," he said, giving Leto a warm smile and a gentle laugh, "together we can't fail! Now... perhaps we should ask somebody. I'm sure there's a suitable inn to dump our stuff, and then we can go do a little shopping - and Webbing."

"I doubt webbing will be an issue for either of us, i'll certainly remind you of what to do and how to use it when we get around to it today," said Leto, his Pavi very fluent and good as he had spoken it all of his life. He'd leave the finding and speaking common to the residents of Riverfall to Ronan, as his common was definitely not fluent in any sense, and he only had a basic understanding of common. "But yes, shopping and preparing for our trip would definitely be a good thing to do once we've dropped our stuff off. Do you think we'll need to take a ship up north? I don't know much of the geography outside of Cyphrus, but there does seem to be a big sea northward at the moment..." he said, his eyes drifting away from the city towards the sea which was visible from where they were standing now, as they headed into the city. Taking in the fresh air himself, he grinned and turned his head back towards Ronan.

The man seemed intent on using the web to find Sama'el, and Leto didn't have a problem with it at all. It would be good practice for either of them if they could find traces of him within the web as they made their way through the city. But first things first, they needed a room at an inn or something so that they could set their stuff down, and then utilize the web as a way of finding out where Sama'el went. A thought occurred to him as he thought of something that might help them train Sama'el too. Denen was no wheres to be seen at Sama'el's camp, and that's where he had always found him at as well. I wonder if Denen went with Sama'el on his trip, thought Leto, as he took in more sights of the city before allowing his obsidian gaze to rest upon Ronan once more.

"Do you know if Sama'el's friend Denen went with him as well? If we can't find traces of Sama'el, we might be able to find traces of Denen as well, if he indeed went with Sama'el, if not that's okay too, we can just focus on trying to figure out where Sama'el's path has led him via the web..." said Leto, as he watched an Akalak walk by without saying a word to the two Drykas that were casually conversing in the middle of the street, sitting atop their striders.

If they could be looking for two people on the web at the same time, they might have better luck at finding out where Sama'el had gotten off to, as well as being able to follow them with a little more ease than normal. The web was strong in Cyphrus, and Leto was fairly sure he'd be able to track them down with the use of his and Ronan's webbing skills, even if they were beginners, information came naturally through the use of the web. Leto was eager to start, so they'd have to find a place to stow away their stuff for now before they went shopping, as well as started using the web. Arias neighed a bit and Leto patted him on the neck, speaking in Pavi to him, "We'll be on our way in a little bit, once we figure out where an inn and stables are..." Smiling, he then looked to Ronan to see if he had spoken in common to any of the passing traders or Akalaks...

Ronan had asked a passer by, who had told him that though there weren't many places to stay here, there was an inn on the level below them, but it didn't have stables. He had been given vague directions to another place, called the Sanctuary. The man hadn't really explained himself very well.

He turned back round and walked towards Leto, the man asking him a question. "Denen? I don't know a Denen? I know that Sama'el had some companions in his travels. Perhaps this Denen is one of them, but I'm not sure."

He surprised himself, realising he felt a little jealous. What a stupid notion... Sama'el was allowed other friends, other companions. I'm being stupid and possessive... just because I lost everything in the past, it doesn't mean I need to cling tightly in the present."

"There's an inn on the level below us, but no stables. The man spoke of a Sanctuary, a place to rest our Striders, perhaps I should ask someone else. I think I know the way," he said with a gentle laugh, "come friend. Let us lighten our loads and let our Striders rest. We have some exploring to do."

Traces in Riverfall [Leto]

Postby Leto Sunsinger on November 26th, 2011, 4:10 am

Dismounting his Strider, Arias, as Ronan went to ask the man about where they might find a place to rest, and a place for their striders to settle down at, he allowed his obsidian gaze to take in the full site of Riverfall. It truly was an amazing city, and he hadn't ever seen anything quite like it, it seemed to literally be built into the mountain, and had what looked like a few levels on it, almost like shelves of a bookcase. He had never seen anything like it in his life, as he had never been outside of Endrykas except when he was younger with his parents when the great tragedy happened to befall him, his parents, and his brother.

Turning towards Ronan as he made his way back to him, Leto held fast to Arias' reins, as the male strider neighed a little bit, tired, grumpy, and ready for some rest. "You'll soon be able to rest my friend," he said in Pavi to Arias, whom seemed to understand him, and settled down a little bit. Turning his head back towards Ronan, he smiled as he listened to what he had to say about this 'Sanctuary'. "Perhaps we should visit this Sanctuary first, to allow our striders to rest, i know Arias is quite exhausted as he's never ran so far and hard in his life, the bum that the two of us happened to be," Leto said, grinning, knowing that his studies of glyphing, summoning, and webbing hadn't really given him and Arias much time to ride, but it felt good to actually be out of Endrykas, in Riverfall, and having rode Arias for that long of a time. It seemed to bring them closer than ever, and Leto was thankful for that.

"I'll let you lead the way to this Sanctuary, if you think you know how to get there," said Leto, nodding to himself as he spoke in Pavi to Ronan. Moving Arias to the side of the street to let a cart pass, he smiled towards Ronan, motioning for him to take the lead, as he'd follow behind them, so as to give Arias' back a rest, leading him by the yvas, and walking next to him. Once they got to the 'Sanctuary', Leto was sure they'd be able to allow their striders to rest, and then head to the Inn to hopefully be able to set the rest of their stuff down, so they could continue onwards in their journey to find traces of Sama'el in this city, so they could see where exactly he went. The webbing they would use to gather their information would help them out greatly, and it would also give them some practice in using it, and increase their aptitude at it.

Following Ronan, Leto would hum a song to himself briefly, one his mother used to sing to him, and just allow his feet to do the walking briefly, at least until they got to the Sanctuary, so that they would be able to allow their striders to rest, and stable them there. He couldn't wait to start exploring the city, and hopefully it would bring his and Ronan's friendship even closer as they worked within the web together as well...
Back again... for a lil longer this time I hope.

As they began to walk alongside their Striders, he noticed Leto was humming a tune to himself. It was like a nursery rhyme, a soothing melody sung to children to keep them quiet and content. It made him realise he knew very little about the man. They had chatted as acquaintances on the way to Riverfall, watching each other's backs in the deadly grasses, but there had been no in depth discussions. He had only shared his most private thoughts with Sama'el - and Khiara all that time ago...

They had been travelling in the direction the man had told him for about ten minutes, when he paused and turned back to Leto. The man looked at him expectantly.

"I was wondering if you could show me a little of that Webbing now? I want to know if Sama'el passed through here, and which direction he went in. I don't think he would have brought Dohaina, but he must have brought a Strider? If so, it seems likely he would have gone to this Sanctuary too."

He looked to Leto. Sama'el had showed him the very basics of Webbing, but he didn't feel confident to try it alone. He waited for Leto's advice, keen to discover a trail.

As Ronan turned around and looked back towards Leto, the elder drykas stopped abruptly. When he expressed his desire to go into the web now, Leto nodded and smiled. "Very well, I think that is a good idea," he said at first, then allowed his obsidian gaze to shift from Ronan towards the area around them. As a web mage, they should have been able to spot any web that was close to them, and looked towards them with ease. Seeing that there was a strand of the web close to them, Leto motioned for Ronan to follow him. It was off in a corner of the street, down an alleyway, that seemed quite covert, and it might offer them some protection whilst being within the web, as their physical bodies would be at risk, when they were delving into the web. Looking towards Ronan, Leto grinned, and said, "You see this?" A hand motioned to the strand of web before them.

"A perfect area for us to use the web at. Quiet, covert, and simply easy to access. Our striders will stand guard, and we should be able to detect danger whilst in the web long before it actually gets to us, so returning to our bodies before it gets to us shouldn't be much of a problem," said the elder Drykas as he looked towards Ronan. "Accessing the web is a bit harder than just locating one though. Once you grab hold of the web, you need to sort of disconnect your mind from your body, and enter the web that way, sort of like meditation. It comes naturally to those who've used the web before, like us. So it shouldn't be too hard to get yourself into the web. And we can gather some information about where Sama'el went. One of the amazing parts of the web, or at least i've found it interesting, is when one touches another person using the web whilst inside the web... It's almost like touching a part of their soul, and it seems to bring people closer than they were before. Probably why Drykas are able to communicate with the long deceased, and their ancestors, and why they feel closer to one another after delving into the web together..."

He shrugged at that, and then took a seat down, looking up towards Arias, whom he said, "We'll be right back boy..." Turning his head back towards Ronan, he motioned for him to sit down next to him with the web at their feet. "Now, you just need to grab hold of this strand with your hands, and then allow your mind to do the rest of the work, letting yourself slip into the web with ease of access... I'll let you go first, and then i'll follow you once i'm sure you're in the web..." After that, Leto awaited Ronan's response, and watched to see if he did indeed enter the web, unless he had any other questions first. If he did, Leto would kindly answer them, and then watch him delve into the web, so that He could follow, grabbing hold of it fast, and then allowing his mind to slip away from his body into it, disconnecting himself towards the web, and entering it via his Ethereal form...
Back again... for a lil longer this time I hope.

Ronan nodded as Leto spoke, he began to recollect what Sama'el had shown him. As Leto pointed out a strand, Ronan began to see it. He smiled to himself, and then followed the Drykas' instruction, reaching out to take it.

One could not just grab the Web however. There was a mental process here, one in which he had to separate mind and body. He calmed himself and began to concentrate, feeling lighter as he did so.

It was like his soul had come apart from his body. He felt a lack of control, yet total dominion at the same time. There wasn't anything quite like this feeling. Gripping the thread, and floating forwards, he knew he was one with the Web.

Traces in Riverfall [Leto]

Postby Leto Sunsinger on November 28th, 2011, 12:34 am

Watching as Ronan slipped into the web, Leto himself began to grip the web, wrapping his hands around it, and then slowly allowing his mind to drift into it. As he did, he would work to separate his mind and body as he concentrated upon the webbing, and almost forcably shifted his mind into the web before him, until his entire spirit, soul, or ethereal form was upon the webbing strand that they were both gripping. Once he was within the web, he looked forward, and saw Ronan's own Ethereal form before him. Smiling, he spoke to him, though it was communication between their minds at this point, no vocalization came of it, and said, "Let us begin to search for where Sama'el might have gone to..." As he said this, he himself began to search for traces of Sama'el within the webbing that they were in, and as he would start to travel along it, he would reach out a hand to touch Ronan's ethereal shoulder, and say, "Follow me, we'll figure out where the Sanctuary is, and then find traces of Sama'el if he's been there or not..."

And with that, he'd start to lead Ronan down the strand of webbing, hopefully towards an Origin cairn, so that they could traverse multiple strands of webbing before them, and figure out where Sama'el had gotten off to. If indeed he had crafted a web, Leto would surely recognize the glyphs that Sama'el used from when they had glyphed origin runes together nearly a few seasons beforehand. Traversing the web was amazing to Leto, but he made sure that Ronan was following him, and kept track of where they were going, so as not to lose their way within the web. Most of all, he didn't want to lose Ronan within the web as he hadn't had as much experience with it as Leto had. Really they were both beginners, so as much as they wanted to, they could just gather information via the web, and not much more. Leto was used to this, and he knew the more practice that they got, the better at webbing the two of them would end up being.

It has felt strange to simply touch Ronan's shoulder Leto thought as he traversed the web, almost in a way that it brought them closer together as friends one might say, and Leto was glad about that, as he drifted the webbing, he would turn around every so often to make sure Ronan was keeping up, and he wouldn't go too fast so that they didn't lose each other whilst in the webbing they were traversing...
Back again... for a lil longer this time I hope.
