[The Academy] Lesson: Symenestra (Open)

Postby Louie Wein on November 21st, 2011, 8:06 am

1st day of Fall 511 AV

The appointed time with Veldrys in the Stranger's Welcome was...tomorrow! That did not leave Louie with much time. He had already tried to look into everything he could about the man but because of his race, Louie found himself going back to symenestras most of the time. It was a little bit depressing but that could not be helped. Louie was a little bit of a racist since most of the people in Denval were humans and being another race would mean that there was a high probability of the person not being a part of the settlement at least in essence even if they were later accepted. At least understanding a little bit more about the symenestra would hopefully help Louie be a little bit more tolerant towards Veldrys or for Veldrys to find him more tolerable. Louie was already not the most popular man with his activities forcing him to constantly poke and pry into every other person's business so he will use every method he could to dampen that effects as much as he could.

"Alright my lovely students. As you all should know by now, Denval is only a small part of this world and we as the residents are not the only people living in it. Even if we are to look to ourselves as humans, we have different cultures and practices from place to place. What more if we talk about the other races in Mizahar?" After Louie was finished with the introductions, he started scribbling on the board all the details that would be required of the day's lessons.

Race: The Symenestra of Kalinor (Kalea)

What you should know by now:

  • They look like humans but should not be mistaken as such
  • They live in the undergrounds of Kalinor in Kalea
  • They have a very special reputation

Louie determined that this was enough for now. His students though children should know this much at least and if they did not, they would know now. "As you can see from the title we are going to talk about the symenestra" pointing right at it before continuing "do you know why?" Not because of Louie's own selfish reasons to prepare himself for Veldrys or because he had no choice but to teach these children because of his job. "It is because we all need to learn more about other people. You know you mother and father your whole life and that is why you love them but can you say the same for a complete stranger you just met?" Of course not so what more "a person who might not look the same way you do, acts differently in a way that we do not like or thinks differently than you. Can you say the same?" Even Louie treated those with a lot of suspicion "but if our captain can extend a proper hand of hospitality to these newcomers we should at least try to do the same!" he insisted. Mannnn Louie was a hypocrite but adults needed to look cool in front of the children somehow. This was his way of doing it since he could not train them in fighting like the others.

"Before we start off with what you should learn today lets see what you do know about the symenestra. Anyone? You don't need to have read it from a book or learnt it from a proper lesson like today. You could just tell me what you heard from your parents? Or anyone else. There are no wrong answers children because you can think of whatever you want" like Louie and his racist self so all they had to make sure is "keep it as civil as you can would you?" so that they would not offend anyone. Petch these children were a little bit too shy...Louie had to find a way to motivate them soon and he thought of something. "Whoever can give me what I think is the best answer will have a choice" or rewards. Excellent! "You can choose either some cookies or no homework today!" giving a fist pump to just show how good the deal is. It was no great loss actually especially if the child chose no homework because Louie was too engrossed thinking of his meeting with Veldrys tomorrow to even prepare anything for the children's homework today.
