Known as the Celestial Seat, Nyka is a religious city in Northern Sylira. Ruled by four demigods and traversed by a large crevice, the monk-city is both mystical and dangerous. [Lore]
As befits a monastery of farmers, the halls of the Bountiful Wheat Headquarters are swathed in living green and gold. Where verdant plant life does not grow in decorated pots or between stones from earthen floors, stalks of wheat offerings are draped through hooks on walls and soft round pillars. They are replaced daily, sent to the mills as a specially blessed crop, and they fill the halls with the sweet aroma of wheat grain.
The monastery contains the city’s every bin, mill, and bakery, which hum with the work of employed citizens during every daylight hour. The bulk of the place is suited for the various stages of cultivation, storage, refining, and baking, but there is ample room reserved for the lives of resident monks. When they are not patrolling the Southern Quarter or monitoring the mills and farmlands, Skerr’s finest may be found on the modest but practical training square, kicking up loose sands with a hand-to-hand spar or the quick dash of a wheatwhip.
Four levels of living quarters overlook the open-air arena through rows of small windows, half of two hundred small efficiency rooms with one bed, chair, small dresser, and lantern each. The other half offer a view of a lush green meditation garden with its narrow paths and many stones and trees for sitting. Between these rooms is a torch-lit hall with a long line of identical doors on each side. Two community baths occupy each end of the lowest floor.
NPC :
Kirnan Sorrel Age: 51 Position: High Priest Though he seems large and intimidating at first glance, Kirnan is ultimately kind. As he hopes every monk should be, he is dedicated to his patron Alvina and Her name. He has taken Skerr’s example in most parts of his life, and has been described as fatherly in his leadership strategies. An intensely passionate man, he gives his maximum effort in most all things he does, which include scheduling the planting of the fields, botanical research of all varieties, strength training as physical perfection, and enforcing order in his Quarter. Of his fellow priests, he is the most likely to be seen on the streets with his fellow monks, keeping the peace and punishing crimes. History: Kirnan was born and raised in the Southern District, venturing elsewhere only to get around the wall and into the farmlands, where he worked the fields and learned the rhythm of the plantlife. Though he has always been larger than most, he enjoyed hard work to gluttony, and soon became one of the strongest of the farmers, and the most devoted to the land. It was because of that strength that a friend suggested to him that he try for the priesthood, and the rest is history. Some blame his taste for flattery played a part in his ascension in the ranks, but his ability to inspire a man to action cannot be doubted.
