Another newbie making a character

My question is not so much a question of what to do or how to do it. I am more interested in the predefined races and magic categories. I was simply curious as to how 'set in stone' these things are. I am curious because this community looks very well established and I am a very competent writer/Roleplayer. I do have a pet character that I would like to use in this universe if at all possible, but obviously he doesn't fit perfectly into the local categories.

Just wondering if I would be able to use him with some tweaks to make sure he followed the more important rules here, as I am extremely fond of this particular character.

First off, welcome to Mizahar!

Our races and magics are set in stone and rock hard in terms of flexibility. However, if you really read the magics, within them there are lots of room for individual style. Mizahar is not a freeform in any way which makes these situations rather difficult. We really don't recommend importing other characters from elsewhere because people always ask this question and their PC's they love never match up quite right. The end result is that they ask us to change our system for them. I know this is not what you are doing, but the slippery slope exists and so we remain firm.

We've worked hard to build our site up and this rigidity is one of the reasons I think we are successful. I really hate telling new players no, but sometimes its for the best. :)

That's unfortunate. I can't guarantee I'll stay, then.

Another newbie making a character

Actually I have a question on this subject myself, having read through the magic Lore I find the systems of magic very interesting. I was wondering about the centers of learning and their research into these areas. How plausible is it that PCs might progress the development of magical arts? Obviously this if possible at all would take alot of effort and resources but it does seem a worthy goal.

Really only a founder can give a definite answer on that question, Tajhan, but to my understanding it is theoretically possible to advance the progress of a magical art. First you would need to master that particular style of magic. Advancing it would still need to stay within the basic guidelines of what the magic can and cant do. I think really the best way to "advance" magic would be coming up with unique ways to combine different schools of magic. But still.. this is really a founder question.
