The Sharp Blade Headquarters The Headquarters of the Sharp Blade opens to a giant atrium with a high, pointed arch ceiling. It contains a tall, expansive training arena that is almost always occupied with the clanging and clamor of blades. Swords, axes, halberds, daggers, and all other variety of edged weapons make the walls shine in the sun or moonlight that peers through the carefully positioned windows in the distant ceiling. On the wall opposite the entrance, two sets of doors lead to two communal baths. Also attached to the great hall is the city’s only smithy and forge, where trained citizens craft blades as well as armor and other practical blacksmithing pieces, as well as a large dining hall where most monks take their meals. The meditation garden is also reserved for monks. While mostly comprised of white stones with hard slabs for sitting, sharp pampas grass grows in concentrated patches and thorny vines are woven over the walls and pillars. The plaza is partially open to the elements, but its high walls seem to block out all noise and offer its inhabitants a stark and peaceful atmosphere—so long as they do not otherwise break the silence. Three levels of balconies rise up above the main room, comprising the modest living areas of Uphis’s following. Some (usually high-ranking) monks may have doors that open immediately to the fray below, but there are also many wide, tall halls that lead to more small, spartan rooms. The ceilings are pointed, the turns are abrupt, and into every pillar is chiseled a dozen edges. Personal quarters may or may not include a window overlooking the city, but all contain a bed, chair, small dresser, and lamp. At the end of the Northern hall is a small library and sitting area, offering knowledge about battle and weapon strategy as well as histories and philosophies specific to the Sharp Blade order and the worship of Uphis.
