The Heavy Coffers Headquarters

Image
Though the walls of the Heavy Coffers Headquarters are square to suit the city’s roads, the circles of Laat’s sigil are prevalent in its halls. Round skylights paint the straight and simple halls with brilliant golden discs; barely any room is without sight of the sky and the bustle of the city, for the soul of trade is never dark or quiet. In a few places, tall pedestals rise up from the stone floor. They are adorned with golden laats and other offerings, such as items meant to be blessed before their export. The salted sea air wafts over the nearby Wall and fills the many round arches with the smell of commerce.

The meditation garden similarly adorned. Its benches are gilded gold and shine beneath sun or moon or rain; its flora consists of annuals and is oftentimes foreign. It is framed by a pentagon of walls, four containing the monks’ dormitories with the city’s only bank occupying the last. Each living space is room for a single monk, with a bed, chair, small dresser, and lantern. The edge nearest the Wall houses to communal bathrooms, which frame the back door to the the training hall. It is long and narrow, wedged comfortably between the Headquarters and the Wall, and designed specifically for training with ranged throwing discs.

The building’s face is the Nyka bank, fondly nicknamed the Vault, where Nykans keep their savings and take out loans*. Citizens man the front desks and handle customers, but no transactions are made without a monk’s consent, and only the monks are allowed into the true vaults. The city’s wealth is said to be stored beneath the monastery, but there are also rumors that those back doors actually open to tunnels that lead to some other secret, heavily guarded location.

NPC :
ImageCameron Niktam
Age: 54
Position: High Priest
Cameron treats his hierarchy of monks more as business employees than fighters and priests, but he claims that it is the way Laat would want it. Devising creative rewards and punishments is one of his favorite pastimes, and he likes to strike deals instead of assign punishments. He prides himself on his knowledge of trivia as well, and loves to mention how it has helped him in various business and political encounters. It is with this vast collection of minutiae that he gives advice whenever he can, where it is or is not needed. Though his moods are as changeable as any man’s, he wears a suspicious smile at all times. It is difficult to discern what he truly means whenever he says, but most resort to taking him at face value.
History: Few are certain of Cameron’s past, or whether he was even born in the city. Though he appears to be a Nykan, he is said to have spent so much time at sea that he might as well be foreign; he claims that he was born on a fishing boat in the bay, and yet he has a few too many stories about sailing and ocean gods. Whatever his heritage, he set up easily as a merchant’s apprentice and learned the art of business from a young age. He claims to be the man who turned Roben’s Pawn Shop into the Flaxen District, and there are not many people who have the guts to dispute the fact.
