This northernmost city is the home of Morwen, The Goddess of Winter, and her followers who dwell year round in a land of frozen wonder. [Lore]

Coren carefully poked his head out of his door and looked if nobody was coming down the hallway, he was about to try something he hadn't tried before and he didn't really know if he could pull it off and if it failed he would make enough noise to let the people around come and find out what in morwen's name he was doing in his room. After confirming that nobody was walking around in the corridor got back inside his room and locked the door behind him, before sitting down in front of the door and closed his eyes as he once again tried to get a grasp of the pool of djed sitting deep in his own soul. As soon as he felt the familiar essence underneath his mental grasp he began pulling out as much djed as he thought he would need to construct the shield over the locked door, planning to try and soundproof the door at the very least, hoping that the walls would be able to muffle the sounds of what was going on in his room. After he thought he had gathered enough djed to cover the entire door he opened his eyes and stood up, 'pulling' the djed up with him and slowly began to cover the door with the gaslike djed, forcing the gas to compact together with his will forming it into a film over the door almost as thick as a thumb in most places. When he was almost done with forming the shield he ran out of djed, leaving the bottom still uncovered. Coren cursed a bit and began to expel some more djed, every bit of djed he expended now was some energy he couldn't invest in practice later and even worse, might bring him to overgiving.
Still he pushed those thoughts away for now and focused again on the shield he was creating, trying to make the shield as uniform and smooth as he was able to. Judging that the forming of the shield was more or less done he began concentrating on the thing he wanted to block out with the shield, sound. And once again forced his will on the djed and this time tried to imprint the task of blocking sound on the shield. Letting his arms fall to his sides as he finished his task and took a better look at his shield, it looked servicable enough. |

Still, looking serviceable or not at first glance he was fully aware that his skill at shielding wasn't that great, sure he was getting there but there was still a way to go. So to test the shield he put his ear next to the shield, making sure it was completely pressed against it. Usually you alway's heard something even when you where in a completely silent room, but as he pressed his ear to the shield he heard absolutely nothing and he only 'heard' an almost unnatural silence. Well, he was sure that somebody who was paying attention would notice it and find it a bit weird and maybe try to investigate, but he counted on the fact that most people had better things to do then stop and listen for something outside of his room.
Coren sat down at his desk and rolled up his sleeves unscrewing the lid of the vial of ink and dipping his quill in the ink before carefully holding out his right arm, beginning to draw the focus glyph's on his major joints, with some difficulty as a quill wasn't made to draw anything on something as soft as living skin. After a few annoyed tries he just dropped his quil on his desk and walked towards the window, opening it and scooping up some fresh snow he rubbed over the failed glyphing marks, using his gnosis to melt it down into water as he did so, washing of the ink. Before carefully drying of his arm and closed the window again. He really should get something that was more appropriate to draw on his own body then a quill. He sat back down at his desk and dipped his finger in the ink, drawing the intricate focus glyph's on his joints with as much precision he could.
After all the six joints on both his arms where inked with focus glyphs he stood up and carefully let his sleeves roll back down as he walked away from his desk, stopping somewhere in the middle of his room and shoved both of his hands in the deep pockets of his robe before concentrating and slowly beginning to push out the astral body utilizing the safer method, starting from the joints close to his torso making sure he dislodged every little piece of his astral body from his physical body before moving on, it really stung if he didn't do this right and he didn't want to screw up both his arms anytime soon if he could do anything about it. |

When both of the astral bodies of arm's where completely dislodged from his physical body he flexed both of the ghostly appendages out of habit before he got focused on what he was had been planning to do and slowly moved his projected limbs over towards his desk taking out a fresh piece of paper, his quill and the vial of ink, making sure he didn't accidentally let any of it fall and quickly laid it down just a few feet in front of him, his skill in manipulating his astral body was more then good enough these day's for him to let him preform such minor tasks without that much thought to it. Stroking over the piece of paper once to flatten out any wrinkles that might be in the paper before unscrewing the lid and dipping his quill in the ink. The exercise he had tried to come up with was fairly simple and geared towards, hopefully, improving the fine control he had over his astral limbs, even after all this time they still felt a bit weird and not as finely responsive as his own limbs, but it had been improving steadily all the time he had been practicing, so he guessed this was just one of the things he had to continue to work at.
Keeping the paper still with his right projected hand he slowly began to trace the outline of a focus glyph in the middle of the paper, if he had to write or draw things he might just as well continue to polish his glyphing a little bit more, he really had been slacking off on that discipline for quite a while. In utmost concentration he continued drawing the focus glyph, sometimes cursing as his still imperfect control made the task a lot more difficult then it usually was, the way his circles looked more like blob's made coren remember of the times he was still studying underneath his master and took his first steps on the road of a mage. His glyping looked about just as bad as on that moment years ago. Still he didn't care that he was messing up the glyph, he wasn't planning too use the shoddy piece of work anyway, it was just practice. |

Coren continued to practice, grumbling in annoyance as the fact his projected arms still weren't as sensitive and dexterious as he was used to ruinded the completed sigil in more then one way, the entire focus glyph was had its properties off, with many of the finer lines and symbols looking more like somebody spilled some ink on the paper then the things he actually wanted to draw on the slip of paper. As he turned over the paper and reached for the ink vial with his quill he had an unpleasant surprise waiting for him. His ink had run out. Coren let out an annoyed sigh as he carefully screwed the lid back on the now empty vial with his projected hands before dumping the paper, empty vial and quill back onto the desk. Maybe it was almost time to stop the practice and take a break for a while. He had been cooped up in here for a while and while he still didn't notice anything that was a sign of being low on djed it could always begin to creep up on you when you thought you where safe.
Sitting down on the bed coren realigned his astral body with his limp arms and carefully began to slide the arms back into place, starting at the fingertips and working his way up , taking as much time as he needed to do it right. After quite a few chimes coren finally had slipped his astral body back where it belonged. As he walked back to the door he grabbed the empty ink vial standing on his desk on the way over there, he better should take a new vial of ink out of the storeroom before he forgot. Unraveling his own shield with only a thought coren walked out of his room. Locking the door behind him. |
