Sefra Snowborn
[Physical Data]
-Mixed Blood: Drykas (with Syliran human parentage). Diamond Clan, Brightsky Pavilion (14 members)
- She was born on the thirty-seventh day of Winter, 489 AV.
-Female
Sefra is a mildly attractive young woman of about 5’ 6”. Her build is lean and lithe, adapted to hard work with horses, lifting and working with heavy objects, and physical combat training. Her body is not the type which will readily increase muscle size, so she remains of average musculature regardless of how toned she might be. She is also of average bust, being neither impressive nor diminutive. Her hair is of a shiny espresso and falling in loose curls to her shoulders or being bound into braids Her eyes are rather noteworthy, having just a tinge of honey in the middle and a ring on the outside of a nearly black tone of brown in her right eye, but her left eye is clear blue like ice. Both of her parents are of human descent, though her father is Drykas (hence the frequent braiding of her hair); she’s not yet received her windmarks, at the age of twenty.
[Concept]
She always tries to be friendly and respectful to everyone she meets, and especially those she knows well. However, with people she doesn’t know well, she can be a little too sensitive when the subject of her parents is brought up (due to her mother not being Drykas and her father being dishonoured in her Pavilion). This has led to numerous shouting matches and more than one fisticuffs with complete strangers, especially during her middle teen years. By and large, she is successful at being pleasant.
She loves to laugh and play. Her sense of irony is fairly well developed, and she never spares a sharp, sarcastic comment when in familiar company. Sometimes she forgets her company isn’t familiar and lets loose something best kept held in present company. Rough-housing is one of her favourite forms of play, but just jumping around can be fun, too.
Sefra believes that respect is a necessity to all relationships and thus accords a little to everyone until they prove they deserve more or less. People who are cruel lose her respect, and people who are generous gain it.
She loves working with horses and the hunting dogs of her Pavilion—she finds it very rewarding and relishes the uniqueness of each day.
She hates being treated like a child or an outsider because of her parentage.
[History]
Sefra is her birth name given by her mother in the moment before she died, overcome by the exhaustion of giving birth. Snowborn is the name given her by her Pavilion for the fact that her mother was outside in the snow when her water broke and she collapsed (which was the first complication of the birth). She was not actually delivered in the snow, but it was a unique enough event of her early life that her family thought it worthy of a name. Today she answers to both; her family often calls her Snowborn as a more endearing sort of nickname, while Sefra is the name she typically gets from strangers.
The first thing Sefra's father did to gain disfavour in the pavilion was to bring a Syliran woman home with him after a trade-related trip to Sylira. Mostly, the family viewed it as unorthodox, but several also felt that bringing a full grown person who did not know the ways of the Sea of Grass would be dead weight and bad luck for the whole pavilion.
Her father's next act to draw disfavour was to challenge the Ankal for his leadership when Sefra was three years old. Normally, this would have been an acceptable occurrence. Her father, however, was the Ankal's second son by his second wife. The Ankal was not yet an old man and beat Sefra's father, though he later succumbed to an internal injury sustained during the fight and passed on. Sefra's father, on being defeated, was disinherited and forced to leave the pavilion with his Strider while blood still gushed from his broken nose.
He was not allowed to take Sefra with him. Sefra was the Ankal's grand-daughter and her father no longer a part of the family, so the entire pavilion supported the Ankal's decision to keep her.
This did not effect how she would be treated later in life, however. Her differently-coloured eyes were a blatant reminder to those who knew the history of her parents and all the hurt caused by them, and she was thus frequently treated as an outsider. The new Ankal, who was the old Ankal's third son by his first wife, did not extend the same protection over her as her grandfather had, so she was left to mostly fend for herself as she grew up.
As she moved into her teen years, she proved herself quite adept in many areas and her family was forced to recognize her as one of their own. At the age of twenty, she still faces some flak from her relatives on occasion, but her place in her family is secure and undisputed by those she grew up with. Anytime one of her cousins marries and brings a new person into the pavilion, however, she must always reassert herself when her family history comes up.
