Drykas warrior waiting for anyone to come along

The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

The man's suspicion was becoming tedious. "My mother is human. I live in Riverfall. Will you point that thing somewhere else? Do I need further credentials?" Wanting to speed things along, she decided to be helpful. (If anything else decided to come out of the Sea of Grass, they'd all be easy pickings if they could not at least trust each other to fight.) "He found a girl. Small child by the sound of it. If she's still alive, she probably got separated from her family recently." This was all said in a dispassionate voice.

For a moment, the girl stared at his outstretch hand. She could not mask her wariness of him, though she knew she already had him wrapped around her little finger. Imagine if she'd cried, or had been hurt. This couldn't possibly be this easy. Yet, here he was, ready and able to offer assistance. She hesitated, wondering if it were really worth it. She would, after all, have to overcome her own fear of strangers to support her innocent victim cover. However, in the end, she knew that she did not have much of a choice. She was powerless against the unknown of the wilds. At least in this situation, she would know what she was dealing with.

With a sniffle, she clambered to her feet, wrapping her dainty fingers around his huge hand. His palm enveloped her own, and she stared up at him, fighting back the memories of her father that flooded her mind. No, she hissed inwardly, this isn't the time to be weak. Wrapping her free arm around her torso defensively, she glanced back toward the camp expectantly, hoping that the others were just as inviting.

Desmus held onto the young girl's hands lightly just tight enough to assure her she was safe from harm that the plains hid within. He could tell that this girl had been through a lot by the way she looked and he couldn't help think of What Aela would do now. He knew that she would not leave her alone, so neither would he.

They walked hand in hand until they approached the camp and couldn't help help but ne glad that both Tion and the Zith were still there locked in a familiar stalemate. That's when. Desmus decided to end this foolishness.

"Its over" Desmus said fiercely to the two "I do nit care for violence and I'm growing tired of suspicion. Tion come let us prepare breakfast, woman you are free to go, but if you wish yo stay all I ask is for your name."

"My mother is human. I live in Riverfall. Will you point that thing somewhere else? Do I need further credentials? He found a girl. Small child by the sound of it. If she's still alive, she probably got separated from her family recently."

Tion continued to glare at the woman for a few seconds before looking over his shoulder towards Desmus. Seeing the girl, a child around 11 or 12 years old, he let out a grunt. The child was covered with dirt and dressed in a ragged outfit.

"Its over. I do nit care for violence and I'm growing tired of suspicion. Tion come let us prepare breakfast, woman you are free to go, but if you wish yo stay all I ask is for your name."

After a glance toward the Zith he lowered his bow. Desmus was right, he was acting the fool. While he did not trust the woman he could at least try to be friendly toward her. After all, Desmus had greeted him, a stranger, with open arms.

Very well... I am sorry if I have frighten you. It was never my intention from the start. Tion say toward the woman.

Moving over to his backpack Tion starts to pick out some of the rations before heading over to the campfire, preparing the breakfast that he up untill now had forgoten all about.

Scratch couldn't help but give the human a triumphant (and slightly evil) grin. This...Tion...was so clearly not in control in this situation, and the Drykas telling him to stand down must have been a wonderful blow to his pride. "Yes, Tion, let us share a meal together." Now confident that the dog was sufficiently leashed, she skipped toward the fire. She was now in a surprisingly good mood, which led her to be quite friendly, as long as she was able to keep up the condescending tone toward Tion.

Addressing the Drykas, she said, "I am known as Scratch. As I was telling your...friend...I live in Riverfall. The city is not far from here, maybe two day's journey at most. If you seek safety, Riverfall is the place to be."

Scratch ignored the girl-child entirely. In other circumstances, the child would make a quick meal, but that opportunity had long-since passed. She could think of no further use for the child, nor did she perceive a threat, which made her very uninteresting.

Analyzing each individual, the girl assessed the situation. The Zith, Scratch, seemed to be in a similar position as herself. Her coy grin and teasing tone told the girl that she was fishing for something. Possibly, she was hoping to earn trust just enough to weasel into their guard and take them by surprise. The other human, Tion, was weak-willed at best, though trying to seem strong. He would submit to any logical authority, it seemed, and thus an easy target. The Zith would be difficult, though the girl was happy to remain unnoticed to her. If the woman was planning something, the girl would easily be able to avoid getting caught in the middle.

She put on a childish smile as she studied Scratch, then shifted her gaze to Tion. Neither seemed to notice her presence, which was to her advantage. If something of their possession went missing, or a poisonous leaf somehow slipped into their food, nobody would suspect the innocent girl in the backdrop.

She kept by the Drykas's side, knowing that the closer she was to him, the safer she would remain from the others. He seemed authoritative and strong, a natural leader. If she could control him, she could control them all.

Glancing up at him, she tightened her grip in his hand,
"What's your name?" She piped, smiling up at him.

Even with the sun shining in the sky the cold winter air left its mark. Desmus led the girl to a seat by the fire"I am Desmus you one" he said with kind eyes. Then assuring her it would be ok he left and returned with a a blanket to cover her. "You must accept my appoligies Scratch, we meant no ill will or harm to you. My suspicion was however justified your people have a long lived tradition of murdering and enslaving the unsepecting."

Desmus looked at the girl and gazed at her not with anger or fear but with understanding. He had fought several of her kind before losing many in the skirmishesbut never none like her. She seemed different to Desmus like she was nit completely under the control.of the beast within her.

While preparing the food Tion listen to the conversations. The... woman... Scratch had once again changed her personality in the blink of an eye.

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Scratch" He heard Desmus say. Tion let out a grunt. Even after knowing about the Zith, a long lived tradition of murdering and enslaving, he spoke kind words toward her. Even if she was an offspring from a human woman and might have some humanity in her it still didn't explain her sneaking around outside the camp just a while ago. Sure, he had been watching the camp a while from afar not certain what to do but he had at least made his presence known before getting close to the camp.

Rubbing his eyes to become more alert and forcing down a yawn Tion moved her out of his thoughts. Becoming a little bit more awake he focused his eyes at the child.

"Child, what is your name and were do you come from? From the look of it you have been out in the wild for quite some time."

The child was a mystery. Who was she and what were she doing out here? From the look of her she might be a runaway slave or an orphan. But with his head feeling as if was full of wool becuse of his fatigue he couldn't figure her out. Maybe it would be best to leave her in Desmus care for now. Even if she told him who she was, were she came from and whether she had a family or not he wouldn't be able to make much out of it, a stranger to this land as he was.

Scratch couldn't help sneering at Desmus. "Do you call it murder when you hunt and eat the creatures of the plains?" she muttered under her breath. She wanted to argue more on the subject, but she'd long since given up trying to convince other races that their moral systems made no sense. Perhaps it was true that only a Zith could understand...

In an attempt to change the subject, she nonchalantly grabbed some of Tion's rations and began chewing on them. "So, where are you fellas headed? What do you plan to do now?"

Desmus stood there in silence for a moment when Scratch asked him where he was headed. That was a good question and one he hadn't put much thought in. He always assumed when he left that he would know but he didn't have a clue.

"I don't really know yet Scratch" he said "Do you have any ideas.
