Character Concept
Aleka is a mixed up a little when it comes to her personality and how she handles things that cross her path or come at her. While quick to grow defensive and often come off as a cold smart mouth, Aleka actually does this not because she is cruel but more because she seeks to keep herself from getting hurt. To the young woman people are just always mean or cruel towards her for reasons she never understood or stands. Having been teased or mistreated by her ‘peers’ in her pod, Aleka feels it is better to keep people at a distance to mainly keep herself safe from heart break and worse emotions that often came from when people betrayed her.
Aleka is very humble when it comes to things like her looks, and would never see herself as beautiful or talented in things that others might see in her. Because of this humble nature she has very few possessions that would reveal her love of things beautiful. She has a fondness for things of the sea (Sea shells, stones from the coast line or bottom of the sea, sea horses and figurines of sea animals like dolphins, otters and leopard sharks.) She doesn’t even own a signal brightly colored dress or outfit due to her humble nature. Aleka does however have a caring heart that is a bit possessive of the few things she does own or see as her own.
Character History
The sole child and thus ‘heir’ of Cora Reefwalker (Svefra) and her unique mate Alek of the Crushed Hearts (Myrian), grew up among her mother’s pod the Reefwalkers. Born upon the Suvan Sea , but a few months (3 in fact) after the death of her father during a mercenary mission he had taken in hopes of bringing in some mizas for his growing family. Now how does a Svefra and a Myrian bond you ask? Well here’s how it happen for Alek and Cora.
Alek at the age of 18 set out to become a mercenary among the regions of Mizahar. It was during one of these after mission times when the Myrian brute had stopped into the port of Black Rock that he came across a young Svefra woman who was there selling goods that her pod had either crafted or caught. While the girl was not trading it for mizas instead was trading it for the things the pod could not get on their own or trade among their own people. Sharing a drink with the young lass, Alek was invited back to the celebration the Reefwalkers were having that evening. It was doing this festive time that Alek and Cora bedded down together.
Cora and Alek chose to stay together, the Myrian being accepted into the pod by the Lai of the Reefwalkers. This was a good thing to since after two years of being together as mates or as a couple, Cora became pregnant much to the joy of Alek who was hoping for a son, while Cora hoped for a girl but would love any child she brought into the light and joy of her people. Sadly this happiness was soon overshadowed by the dark clouds of tragedy. The death of Alek. His belongings returned to his ‘wife’ who had no choice but to continue on for the sake of their unborn child.
Now Cora’s pod often left the Suven Sea and traveled the trade routes outside of the Sea and the Faleyk Gulf areas. It was thankfully during their time back inside the Suven Sea that Cora gave birth to her child who turned out to be a baby girl with beautiful blue eyes, a blessing from Laviku, and medium brunette hair (a mixing of her father’s dark brown hair and her mother’s lighter brown hair), and fair skin of her mother’s people. The child was raised in the traditions of the Svefra people, and though from her first day Aleka (named in honor of her father) was different, which Cora could tell when her daughter was among the other Reefwalker children, she still grew up with a loving mother and a pod that took care of her.
Now Aleka wasn’t your normal singing and dancing Svefra, besides the fact that she had Myrian blood in her, her attitude for life seemed to mimic that closer to the sea during a storm then when the waters were calm and bright. Trouble often seemed to follow the girl’s shadow and because of her tough take no attitude from others, Aleka was often in trouble in the towns/cities that her pod would stop in or near. Of course she was often in trouble with her own family as well but they often would just look the other way given they knew why she was most like this, her father’s blood as they often whispered behind her back and around the campfires. But Aleka had an interesting ability to lead, and take charge of situations when others her age would sit back for whatever reason. So the day she got the tattoo of a leopard shark no one in the pod questioned it even if their Tavan was that of a spotted dolphin. After all Aleka was well known as being the wayward offspring of a love that should never have been.
When Aleka was twenty years old she finally got the chance to leave her mother’s pod and strike out for her own. This was only due to the fact that her mother had passed away from an illness that struck the woman at the age of 36, some said she just couldn’t go on living without her Alek. Wondering the coast line in the casino that had once belonged to her Mother (and father when he was alive), Aleka often took odd jobs as a fisher woman, a sailor guide but most often she made her ‘living’ as a pirate stealing from those that were curious enough to get near her boat thinking she was a helpless woman trapped upon rocks or the coast.
Her travels now take her to Sunberth were she hears tales of people much like herself, cut throat and thieves among many other lawless ask no questions type of people. Will she test her luck in these waters? Or will her knowledge of the stars and currants guide her to a new home/pod unlike that of the Reefwalkers she came from? |
