For this month's featured thread, Drayton has chosen Peony Moon. Read his great commentary on this thread below: "Sifting through the massive amount of wonderful writing on this site, trying to catch up with what I had missed, what I missed and at the same time find a Thread of the Month for February I stumbled upon this lovely little thread. Peony Moon does not give us the story of a great, life-changing event in Seven’s life, it gives us the morning after. In this thread we are allowed to feel some of the lingering emotions, excitements and anxieties of Seven after his encounter with a Symenestra. This thread doesn’t seem to exist for the plot so much as for the character. The fact that Peony Moon is written in the first person does an artful job emphasizing that. Seven does not describe his sister’s feelings about his actions, or explain to us the attitudes of Lhavitians, he feels and reacts to them. And through his perception the details we are offered become more real, and take on meaning beyond the simple facts. This writing style is rare on RPs because it can be difficult to carry out, and down-right impossible to use when writing with others, but in Peony Moon it becomes a thoughtful tool. I admire the natural way the dialogue carries you from thought to emotion and back again, and how, despite being short and concise this thread leaves you with a well-rounded picture of Seven’s life with his family in Lhavit. Well-written, short and sweet Peony Moon is my pick for Thread of the Month." |
