[Stories in The Snow]Geography (Alea, Coren)

Postby Alea Davenport on March 14th, 2012, 10:37 pm

"I just hadn't gotten that far!" Alea snapped at Coren. True she had been thinking of moving on from Avanthal eventually, but it was only yesterday that she started having a plan. And she had just gotten so excited... she wanted to do everything right away. She ignored Oluse's concern: she planned to BE a trained navigator by the time they left, if they hadn't found one by then. "I'll be ready to travel before I leave. The only reason I came back to THIS stupid place was to prepare, and if you're not going to help, then you can just... go away!"

Alea wasn't sure why she kept saying things she didn't mean. She had no idea how she was going to find useful books without Coren's help, but he just made her so angry! She started ignoring him with all her concentration, to the point where she pulled the wrong book from the shelf. She had already started skimming it, getting confused when she read phrases about some place called "Zeltiva." Embarrassed, she snapped the book shut, and put it back on the shelf. "Navigation," she muttered under her breath, unconsciously taking Oluse's advice. Learning to navigate couldn't be that hard. If someone just told her how, she was sure it would be easy.

[Stories in The Snow]Geography (Alea, Coren)

Postby Coren on March 27th, 2012, 5:56 pm

Coren just sighed at alea's childish outburst.
“As if you act in a way that would anybody want to help you in the first place.” Coren muttered underneath his breath as he shook his head. One hand rubbing his temple, really hoping that she would start to shut up and listen to what other people had to tell her as soon as possible.
As she turned herself back to the bookcase coren narrowed his eyes, the irises changing to an angry yellow as he did so. Stepping closer to the little girl and roughly grabbing her arm and forcing him to pay attention to him.

“First of, this place is where I work. So if any of us is going to have to leave it is not going to be me but you. And secondly with an attitude like that you'll never be ready to leave. You can't just assume that everything will work out like you plan it, or in your case work out just because you want it. Or are you trying to tell me that you are able to learn how to navigate and learn how to move through the wilderness in less then half a year? Don't be ridiculous, get your head out of the clouds and actually listen to other people for once. Or else you’re going to end up meeting dira and lhex before your time!” He released her with an annoyed huff. “And no matter how much of an annoying person you are you don't deserve that just yet.”

[Stories in The Snow]Geography (Alea, Coren)

Postby Oluse on April 7th, 2012, 3:11 pm

Oluse's brown crinckled as Coren reached out and took hold of Alea. He was far from approving of Alea's temperment, in general, specifically in the face of the dangers the world's wildrness presented. But, something inside him flared at the sight of Coren's grip around Alea's arm. Still quietly, respectfully, for he wouldn't know how to muster any other way, he closed the valuable book in his hand and set it aside, a near glare mounted at Coren.

The glare melted, however, as his point arose, and his grip lessened, then released. Oluse could understand Coren's frustration, as well as what drove him to believe trying to scare her would work. It wouldn't. Any common sense Alea might have had was coddled out of her by her parents, and Denval, long before either of them entered her life. This Oluse knew, because he was much like her before he left Denval. Neither of them had the training their country demanded of them, escaping that crucial part of Denvali life. Without martial training they would never know fear, and thus never real strength. Something seemed off about the thought, but, he decided to save the introspection for another time.

"Sir, it's hard to know what there is to fear before one experiences it. That is something you can't show us." His sentences lulled for a moment, but he pushed himself to think and spoke faster so as not to get cut off by Alea, for a change. "You could show Alea, and I, how hard it is to Navigate though. Once we start reading the basics it should become apparent how long it will take. Um, right?" Before he said it, his logic seemed rock solid, but nothing ever seemed as coherent in words, not his anyway. He hated that.

[Stories in The Snow]Geography (Alea, Coren)

Postby Alea Davenport on April 14th, 2012, 5:57 pm

For the sake of her friend, Alea was trying to keep it together, but her patience was just about at an end. It took everything she had not to give Coren the good thrashing he deserved when he grabbed her. She barely heard the words either boy spoke; all she knew was that Coren was too busy telling her how stupid she was to actually help, and Oluse was trying to make peace and failing (as usual).

With a snarl, she grumbled, "Petch this. It's not like I can learn anything from a bunch of dusty old books anyway." What could a book tell her that she couldn't learn from experience? With a dismissive gesture, she turned her back on Coren and started for the door. She wasn't sure why she'd thought coming back here was a good idea. Maybe she should ask Yuros to take her on a short trip, for practice. The stag Kelvic knew the wilderness better than anyone in this room, she was sure.

OOCI see 2 possibilities here. 1) Alea walks out, which will probably end the thread soonest. 2) Coren apologizes and finds Alea a navigation book to study. Odds seem low on that, but I leave the choice up to Coren ;)

Thread Award

Oluse :
Experience
2 Investigation
1 Observation
1 Philosophy
2 Land Navigation

Lore
Love of Libraries
Vague Directions to Mura
Caution: Animals in Taldera are BIG

Other
N/A

Notes: Oluse is so patient with Alea! Their interactions together are so cute. Sometimes I can’t believe Oluse puts up with Alea but it’s very endearing. Nice job on this thread, it’s unfortunate that it was abandoned.

Alea Davenport :
Experience
2 Land Navigation
2 Persuasion

Lore
Vague Directions to Mura
Caution: Animals in Taldera are BIG

Other
N/A

Notes: Alea always makes me roll my eyes, but in a good way. :) You always do a pretty good job of showing how petulant and immature Alea can be, I’ve grown very fond of this PC. Since Alea mostly followed the others around and pouted for the majority of this thread so I couldn’t award much. Good job on this thread, I enjoyed it.

Coren :
Experience
2 Land Navigation
1 Persuasion

Lore
Contact: Oluse
Giving Advice on Travel

Other
N/A

Notes: The land navigation is for the geographic knowledge that Coren displayed and the persuasion is for trying to convince them that traveling is a stupid idea. I always giggle when Alea gets Coren all worked up!
