37st day of Winter 511 AV
One of the similarities that Bob could find between Alvadas and Sunberth was that they both enjoyed a good gamble on a fight. The thing which made Alvadas a whole lot better than that shithole among a whole lot of other reasons was that it had a really big place specially for it in what is known as the Akeldama Colosseum. For obvious reasons especially after luck has proven itself with his "teaching" one spider some gambling and the unexpected remeeting with a Lark, Bob decided that he was going to take advantage and make some more mizas for himself. The only problem was that in a new place Bob did not know a lot about the fighters like who were the favorites, what weapons did they use and what were the methods that took their opponents down but one thing was for sure that to win Bob was going to have to find out at least a little bit if he was going to have a chance to profit from it. At the entrance to the colosseum, he walked around moving through the people to try and overhear their thoughts about the fighters or at least engage them in some conversation.
In one of the upcoming fights, Bob saw that the odds were pretty interesting. A three to one and that was nicely close enough to test the waters of the Alvadas gambling scene. The short man ignored all the testy, disturbed looking people that he identified as a lot of other desperate gamblers he has seen in the days and went up to the fans who were talking very excitedly first. "So you are looking forward to the next match too? This is my first time here so I don't know anything yet but with the turnout I am sure that it is going to be a good fight" after hearing a little bit about how great their "main man" was Bob got a little tired and asked "really...? He is that good? Is it because of that big sword of his you keep talking about? Meaty? But that should make him pretty slow..." Bob's comments made him go through another rush of words which was all about how one slash could finish off an opponent so speed had nothing to do with it and that in deathmatches if he is not dead yet he has to be good. "Ok..." Bob said agreeing to their logic and started to back away because "I will see it for myself." At least that explained the one.
As for the three, Bob found it out from another person. His kind of woman actually that is smooth, elegant and a risk taker since she was making a bet herself. "So tell me...why are you betting on this man when the odds seem against him?" he asked moving closer finding out that the reason the odds were so was not because of skill but popularity. After that big competition that was hosted by Shale in the previous season, magic users in a fight were not too popular when it cut short what should have proven an interesting fight and the career of a promising newcomer in Akeldama. With a smile especially when he learned something so interesting Bob offered that "I will place my money on your man too then and when I win, how about I take you to the Sun and Stars? Maybe after that I can take you somewhere else too." Instead of the acceptance that he wanted Bob got a quick smack to the face and while he rubbed on it he told the woman "fine, but once I win you will come back to me." How could Bob not win? Unlike the others who were betting on their sentimentality, he was actually going to bet on skill. He had that hero...leo...theo? to thank for that but since Bob does not like murderers too much the thanks would probably never get through.
The mizas he had for the bet were put on the mage just because he could not really imagine a man with a big sword closing in such a distance before the pain was dished out just like the earlier story he heard but those fanboys were really telling the truth. "Petch...if only those fanboys were more normal then I would be more likely to believe them..." but that did not work out. When Bob was about to leave he was stopped because "I owe a hundred mizas?!? Do you even know how to count? I only bet ten. Ten! Where the heck is your boss?" Bob was in a rage and he spat to the side as he continued shouting that "this is the first time I've experienced idiots who do not know how to count taking the bets." The commotion he was making brought a man who introduced himself as Shale? Who the heck was that? "You are the boss?!" Bob asked surprised as he stared at the man. He did not look like a boss at all especially with his teeth showing like that when he spoke. A muscle was a lot more believable. From Bob's experience in Sunberth, nowhere was safe to carry around mizas so he told Shale "I did not bring any more mizas with me except to make my bet which-is-ten and a little bit extra for a meal if I was hungry" and that was the truth of things whether the money shark chose to believe him or not.
Bob thought Shale was a good person when he said he empathized with the situation but was unable to help too much because it might set a precedent but it was all just leading up to the moment where Shale gave Bob an offer that he could not refuse because as he put it, it will help the both of them. There was an empty slot in the day's events which needed to be filled apparently and when, not if Bob takes it, the midget would have a chance to profit from it as well. But then that offer did not sound good at all since "I saw one of your fights and if you think I am going to put my lif..." but before he could complete the sentence he was taken and thrown right into the middle of the ring for the next event. "I don't even have a weapon you monstrosity!" Bob shouted back again to try and get out of it since no one would know about the sword hidden in his cane but Shale told him that sacrifices do not need a weapon. A little bit of mercy, if it could be called that was only shown because the shark expressed that the crowd loved to see blood and the more interesting it was, the better. Shale tossed the whip he had with him to Bob telling him that his pitiful attempts to try and fight through would be entertaining.
Another form of "mercy" just for show when Shale called out for people who would want to help the dwarf get through the mess of animals that he would soon send out. All they had to do was play bodyguard to the "king" right until the end and they might get to partake in the "feast" whatever he meant by that. A fun children's game that Bob had played back in Zeltiva before only this one was added with the twist of danger. Just who would actually be foolish enough to cast their lots with the weak looking Bob? That was hard to say but if he had to then Bob would do everything he could alone. That being said he needed to show any onlookers who might help him that he was worth it and went up to the front row to twirl the whip which was given to him around. Lashing out here, there and everywhere in a storm of cracking sounds all around in a way which would show anyone that he could fight with the whip unless they were experienced enough in fighting to know that Bob was a novice. In fact he man uses the whip mostly for training animals.
A fact which would be perfectly evident now when Bob continued to try and show off by trying to rope in a dagger which was held by one of the people in the front seat. His arm from a position right behind him came forward in a curl, the whip following through until the tip reached right at the spectator's hand. It was supposed to continue on curling around the dagger so that he could pull it back but instead [i]"THWACK!"[/b] it smacked into the hand and caused the dagger to fall instead. "Sorry, but I meant to do that?" he tried to admit but it failed. Not only that but most probably he is not winning any fans with that stunt. Winding back the whip he asked "so you won't help me?" A wrong time for the question because the dagger was hurled straight at him and if Bob was not paying any attention he would have been killed before the match even started. Instead the dagger stuck itself on the ground where he was standing recently before he took a quick stride to the side yelling "I don't want your crummy dagger" before turning to the gates that were opening. So many eyes glowing in the darkness. He did not want to know what those were.
