28th of Winter, 511 A.V. Couple miles south from Avanthal, early morning... "We need to go hunting brother. You look much too tense." Ethan said the day before. It was early morning now and he was starting to wonder if this was such a good idea. Kendall seemed a little... new to the activity. Which was fine with the Kelvic. Its just Ethan hadn't hunted with a human either. Being a falcon took a little more direction than he was used to. So Ethan sat on Kendall's shoulder patiently. Quietly scanning the area. In human form his eyes missed very little. But as a Lammergeier he was silent and all seeing. Completely focused on his surrounding. As they stumbled through the forest. Prey crawled and skittered away. Ethan assumed Kendall was waiting for the right moment. But it was clear the boy wasn't even looking. Ethan smacked the would be hunter with a wing. And motioned with the other, to slow down. If he kept crunching through the snow at this pace they would never find anything. The northern winds where blowing bitter cold. Kendall was wrapped up nicely and Ethan had layers of feathers. But most prey would be inside burrows or hibernating. A tricking situation for any hunter. But most hunters didn't have Ethan. Pecking at Kendall. He directed him towards an unassuming lump of snow. Small faint tracks could be seen coming in and out. Indicating a nest. From the size of the hole, it should be nothing more than a rabbit. But it was something to show for a day of hunting. The Kelvic flew to a branch nearby and tried to indicate his ideas the best he could. They had practiced a series of codes along the way to Avanthal. That would allow them to communicate in animal form. He used his wings to say that he would call out at the burrow. Hopefully Kendall had practice enough to understand. Then he said for Kendall to fire at the burrow. He kept repeating the code until, hopefully. He understood that Ethan was going to try and scare the prey from the nest. And he should then use his fire. Whenever Kendall was ready to test out the idea. Ethan would screech. hopefully scaring the wits out of whatever was hiding inside. So Kendall could use his Fire Magic. |
