Character Overview

Image

Basic Information

Name: Aythar, from the tents of Haytham, of the sons of Malech
Race: Human, half-Benshira
Birthday & Age: Born Winter of 489 AV, Age 21
Gender: Male
Height: 6’0
Weight: 175 lbs
Eye Color: Light blue
Primary Language: Shiber
Secondary Language: Common

Physical Description

When asked, Aythar will gladly tell you that he stands at five-foot eleven and three quarters, though he reached six foot a long time ago. He has a lithe build, lean bordering muscular. Being only half-Benshira means that he has significantly lighter skin than most Benshira, although he prefers to wear traditional Benshira clothing.

Character Concept

Personality: Aythar views himself as a thief who has strong faith in his Benshira heritage but, due to circumstances outside of his control, has been forced into a life that goes against his beliefs. In reality though, he views others as objects, with the exception of his father. He is both isolated from the crowd and dependent upon it for his survival. Although a thief, he abhors Yshul and instead looks to Akajia and Yahal.

Ethics: Aythar knows that stealing is wrong, but he views it as both a family trade and necessary for his survival and therefore unavoidable. He dislikes those who are born with power, especially users of magic, but his dislike is born only from envy. Secretly he wishes that he had been born of noble blood.

History

History

Pre-Creation History

The elderly barkeeper was surprised to see a man dressed in the clothing of a Benshira enter his bar. Usually, the few limited wanderers who came this far north shed the heavier woollen clothing. Probably some sort of freak, the barkeeper decided. The Benshira walked straight up to the bar, ignoring the stares of the bar’s patrons. As the man approached, the barkeeper noticed the man’s unusual skin tone; certainly tan, but not nearly as dark as the majority of the Benshira.

”I’d like a water, if you’d please.” the man said nervously. Perhaps not as confident as his demeanour had suggested.

”Sorry, we don’t serve water here. You’ll have to buy a drink.”

”Just a mug of ale, then.” the Benshira consented, after a moment’s pause.

As the barkeeper grabbed a glass and began to fill it with ale, his curiosity got the best of him. ”So what are you doing this far north? We don’t get many of your kind here.”

The Benshira took a drink from the mug, his face scrunching into the expression the barkeeper had come to recognize as that of someone who had limited experience with alcohol. As he set it down, the Benshira replied, ”It’s a long story, if you care to listen.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” the barkeeper replied.

The man put on a thoughtful expression before replying. Well, I guess my problems really start with my parents. My father was a low class Benshira, with no remaining family. I don’t know how strong family bonds are here in Sylira, but among the Benshira family is just about everything. Really, my father was a pitiable character. You see, not having a family means that there’s not much you can do to survive. You travel with your family, you hunt and farm and drive your livestock with your family, you even spend your free time talking with your family. Without a family, it’s next to impossible to get married.”

“I don’t know much about my mother, other than she came from Sylira. Died giving birth to me, y’know? Still, I know that my father loved her very much. The highest praise he could ever give me growing up was that I reminded him of my mom.”
The man took another drink of the ale.

”Well, my father did his best to raise me. He was a great man, I think, and a liar. Hard to sort out the facts with a man like him, really. I don’t know if he became a thief before or after he had me, but I like to think it was after. I can’t think harshly of him, because he needed some way to support me. He was careful to steal only from people who could afford to be stolen from, or people he didn’t like. And he always stole as much as possible. ‘If you are to hit, then make it painful, because your punishment will be the same either way,’ he said. My dad didn’t say much, but he loved that saying.”

The barkeeper sighed. He had only asked the man why he was here, not his life story. The man seemed to realize this.

”Well, you probably don’t want to hear about how much I admired my father. I just hate saying ‘My father was caught stealing from a Rapa, and was exiled.’ The punishment was a little severe, but really they had been looking for an excuse to get rid of him ever since he had had me. As you can imagine, exile in the desert doesn’t leave you with many options. It’s pretty much a death sentence. Actually, I think the death sentence is considered lighter than exile. I wanted to leave with him, of course, but he told me I’d be safer in the city. He’s probably dead, but who knows, maybe I’ll meet him again someday. You never know with these things, right?”

The barkeeper, now thoroughly perplexed, replied ”That’ll be 4 CM.”

”No problem.” the Benshira replied, and put a few copper coins on the table. ”You wouldn’t happen to know where I could buy some... less noticeable clothes, would you?”

”There’s a tailor shop on the other side of town.” the barkeeper replied.

”Really? That’s perfect! I’ll be taking my leave, then.” the man replied.

Taking the coins, the barkeeper went to put them in his pocket, only to find that his coin pouch was no longer there. Too late did he realize that he had been scammed.

Already halfway to the other side of town, Aythar was feeling the coin pouch. It was surprisingly heavy, but it was probably mostly copper mizas, maybe a few silvers if he was lucky. With any luck, it would probably be just enough to pay for his new clothes.

100 Questions

Postby Aythar on March 28th, 2010, 4:42 am

100 Questions

General Information :
1. What is your Name?

Aythar, from the tents of Haytham, of the sons of Malech

2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name?

Not really. I don’t mind if you make one up for me, though.

3. How old are you?

21

4. What is your height?

5’11.75

5. What is your weight?

About 175 lbs

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself.

As I see myself? A normal person who has been forced to go to extreme measures to complete simple tasks out of necessity.

2. Describe yourself as others typically see you.

Need you ask? A no good thief, of course.

3. What is your favorite body feature?

Definitely my well-trimmed facial hair. You can’t beat that. Ever.

4. How physically fit are you?

Well, I’m certainly not fat, but I’m not a body builder, either.

5. How do you typically dress and what is your style?

I dress in traditional Benshira clothing when I can, but up north here I thought it might make me stand out, which is a bad thing for a thief. Basically, I wear anything that ensures I won’t stand out.

Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like?

My father, Haytham, was a great man and a thief. He always did his best in life, so what more could you ask for from a man? My mother... Never really given it much thought.

2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Not that I’m aware of.

3. What is your extended family like?

Well, let’s just say they aren’t very lively.

4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family?

Family comes first, or at least it should. People who take their family for granted don’t deserve to have any.

5. Do you treat animals like family?

Treat an animal like a person?

Location :
1. Where were you born?

In Yahebah.

2. Where do you live now?

Wherever my adventures take me.

3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be?

In Yahebah with my father. But that can never happen now.

4. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time?

Nope.

5. Where do you fear to be?

Same as any thief. Behind bars.

Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs?)

If I did, I wouldn’t be likely to tell you, would I?

2. Are you right handed or left handed?

Right.

3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent?

I speak perfect Common and Shiber. No accents here.

4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

Besides a constant need for water? Not really.

5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them)?

No way. Tattoos are an easily recognizable feature that you can’t get rid of.

Occupations :
1. What is your occupation?

Thief.

2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why?

Neither. It’s necessary for my survival.

3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be?

Between me and me, I’d love to be a noble or prophet. Someone important. Somehow, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why?

Anyone who helps those less fortunate.

5. What occupation do you least like? Why?

Anyone who is in power but doesn’t use their power for the greater good.

2. What is your favorite memory from childhood?

Playing with my dad.

3. What is your worst memory from childhood?

My dad being exiled.

Unsurprisingly, my dad

Only what my dad taught me and what I’ve learned for myself.

5. What are your educational goals for the future?

I’d like to be the best thief ever, in honour of my father.

I don’t make friends easily, but if you do become my friend, quite simply I’d do almost anything for you.

Nope. When you’re a thief, if you trust people easily you won’t last long.

3. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else?

Straight.

4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time.

Ah... promise not to tell anyone? No, I haven’t. But this doesn’t change anything!

Actually I haven’t. I don’t drink often...

Nope.

3. What sort of alcohol do you prefer?

If I am going to drink, I’d rather drink something like wine than watered down ale.

4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them?

Nah, but I’ve been tempted before.

5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific.

Overall, it’s simply not worth the risks. In a profession like mine, a single mistake can mean the gallows.

Likes and Dislikes :
1. What are your hobbies?

Hmmm... anything involving luck. Or cloud watching.

2. Do you like to read?

Don’t know how. But I like cloud watching.

3. What annoys you more than anything else?

People who don’t understand cloud watching.

4. What do you find the most relaxing activity to do?

For relaxation, the only thing is sleeping. Or cloud watching.

5. What kinds of things embarrass you? Why?

Anything I haven’t been exposed to. If someone comment on my reading ability (or lack thereof...) or sexual experiences (ditto)...

Favorites :
1. What is your favorite color or colors?

I’ve always liked grey.

2. What is your favorite time of day?

Dusk till dawn.

3. What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?

The setting sun over an oasis. When it wasn’t a mirage.

4. What do you like to eat? What do you hate to eat?

I believe food is part of a balanced diet. So I eat it. Unless it’s completely inedible, food is food.

5. What is your favorite type of weather? Does any kind scare you?

I love sand storms, thunderstorms, and any either kind of noisy weather. Especially at night.

Outlook :
1. Are you optimistic or pessimistic?

I’m an optimist by nature and a pessimistic by trade.

I’ve done nothing good or bad. Only what is necessary.

2. What is your greatest regret?

Not leaving with my dad.

3. What is your best/worst memory?

Both involve my dad. Best when he was with me, worst was when he left.

4. If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why?

I would leave with my dad when he had been banished.

5. What are you the most proud of doing in your life?

Ah... nothing really.

Emotions :
1. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings with others?

Me? Lie? As if! *cough*

2. Do you have any biases or prejudices?

No. But users of magic and nobles should all die.

3. What makes you happy?

Never given it much thought. Pretty much anything can.

4. Who or what, if anything, would you die for?

I would die for people I truly care about... which amounts to my dad.

5. What makes you angry?

People with the power to make changes in this world and choose not to.

Relationships :
1. In general, how do you treat others?

As objects until they prove themselves interesting. You have to in order to survive in my profession.

2. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?

My dad, because he was always there for me and supported me and sacrificed so much just to be with me. I’ll always love him.

3. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?

My dad. I hope that I can make the same hard choices as him when the time comes, and give up on wealth for happiness. I know I’d never regret it, because he never did.

4. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If not, describe an ideal lover.

Ideal spouse? They have to be able to respect me for who I am, and still be honourable in their own right. Good looks don’t hurt, either.

5. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why

[b]I’m starting to feel like a daddy’s boy. Of course, I have plenty of reason to trust him to protect me. He always has, and there’s no reason I can think of that is might have changed.

Group Situations :
1. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?

Avoid conflict. Even if I know I’m right, I’ll submit as long as my voice was heard.

2. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?

Never. I follow the leader whenever possible.

3. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?

Interacting with groups makes it easier to hide my presence, but one-on-one I can express myself in a truly meaningful manner. So it all depends on the situation.

4. Do you care what others think of you?

Not really, so long as they don’t think I deserve to go to prison.

5. What do you think of others, in general?

Objects, unless they prove otherwise.

Self Image :
1. What is your greatest strength as a person?

I don’t really have many good qualities, but I have very few bad ones as well.

2. What is your greatest weakness?

I have many, and none really stick out as above the rest.

3. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would have inherited something from my father that I could use as a trade other than stealing. But I have no complaints about it, really. Nothing is good or bad, it all depends on how it is done.

4. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?

Introverted. The world exists inside my mind.

5. Are you generally organized or messy?

Organized. I know where everything is at all times.

Beliefs :
1. What God or Goddess do you find most appealing, if any?

I find Akajia the most appealing. The shadows are always the thief’s friend.

2. Which God or Goddess do you fear, if any?

Fear? I fear them all.

3. Do you have any Gnosis Marks? If so, how did you receive them?

No, but if Akajia would be so kind as to grant me one, I would not hesitate to accept.

4. What lengths would you go to in order to please your deity?

If they wished something of my, it would be among my top priorities.

5. Where do you draw the line at pleasing your deity? What is too much?

[b]If they asked me to do something that risked my life, I would have to at the very least have an explanation. And I would never do something like kill a friend or family member.

Life & Death :
1. What do you absolutely live for?

The experience of life itself is worth living for. But really, there is nothing I truly live for.

2. What is the best part of life?

Being alive, followed closely by helping those who are misfortunate.

3. What is the best part of death?

There’s an upside to deaths?

4. If you could choose, how would you want to die?

Something quick, painless and unexpected.

5. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?

For doing my best to do the right thing, even if they think I was misguided.
