55th of winter 511 AV Coren took a deep breath of the crisp morning winter air as he walked through the windward boardwalk park at a brisk pace, it was one of the few day's he had a free day so he did what every nromal and sane person would do if he had not very much of free time alone. Practice his magic away from most vantha people, Slowing down as he reached the less visited outskirts of the park and began to look for things he could anchor his shields to as he began to practice. He had shielded his own door and hands for what seemed like a hundred time already, coren felt it was time to make his practice a little bit more difficult. Coren didn't have to look much further for what seemed like a perfect spot to practice. A bench and a tree stood beside the path through the path, the hedges restricted the view towards the spot so it wasn't very likely he was going to be spotted either. Pulling his hands out of his pockets he took a deep breath to stiffle the excitement he was feeling as he prepared to use his magic and let his mind run over the options he had with shielding. He pretty much had blocking out light down and he was craving for a bit of variety. Deciding to Span a shield over the path that blocked out sounds, the distance would be quite a challenge and it wouldn't have been as noticable as a sudden black veil crossing the path. Reaching inside of himself for the djed coren began push it out through his hands, pushing the djed with the force of his will in between the hedges anchoring it to the hedges at both sides of the path stringing the djed in between them a smile coming on his face as the mass of djed was slowly forced into the shape of the shield he wanted it to have. He felt a sense of excitement at the ease of his progress of his shield, it seemed all his practice had been paying off, since it was a lot easier then he had thought it would have been at first. He stopped pushing out djed as he pushed the last of the shield into the shape he wanted to and began to focus on the brightly glowing strands running through the shield and reached out towards those strands and began weaving them into a pattern that would block out sounds. As he finished the shield he looked it over a few times. He didn't see any flaws in it. But he still had to test it out to make sure it worked completely like he had wanted it. Coren picked up a fairly big rock and walked closer towards his shield, sticking his arm and the rock through the shield and dropped it. He smiled as he didn't hear the rock hit the ground. It seemed this shield was a complete succes. Dismissing his work with a just a thought he turned towards the other objects he had chosen and his mind once more began running over the options he had at his disposal, maybe he could span one over the tree. Or cover the entire bench with a shield that would repel light. Coren's train of thought ground to a halt as he realized something.. why should he keep shielding against things like light and sounds anyway? The entire art of shielding was almost made to block against solid things and since it was going so well why didn't he try and shield against a rock or something? His mind set on his next course of action coren once more grasped the djed inside of him and pushed it outwards as he began to span a shield between the ground and the front of the bench, creating a makeshift ramp with it before he once again tried to weave the strands making up the shield into a pattern that would block stone. It was quite a bit harder then he had initially thought though. The strands that would fit into place with ease when trying to command them to block sounds, light or other lighter tasks almost seemed to try and avoid being pushed into what he thought was the right pattern. Coren wasn't discouraged though and continued to concentrate on the stubborn web of djed in front of him. He didn't know how long it had taken exactly but after what felt like half a bell he finally managed to let those strands stick in the pattern he wanted to. Picking up the same rock from a while ago with a bit of a giddy feeling in the pit of his stomach and dropped it on the shield. The shield buckled underneath the weight of the stone and coren saw the fragile pattern snap, the djed he had invested into the shield evaporated into the air in less then a second and the rock hit the ground with a dull thud. Coren stared dumbfounded at what had just happened, he had been so sure the pattern had been completely right so why didn't the shield block the rock? Gritting his teeth a little he once again drew from the reservoir of djed deep inside his soul and went back to work. He was going to figure out what the heck he did wrong. Coren tried and tried and tried again to create a shield that would be able, in his fixation he didn't notice the silent murmuring that was starting to sound in his ears and he completely had lost track about how much times he had already tried to create the same shield. Letting out a small growl of frustration as nothing he tried seemed to work! As he began pushing out some more djed for the next shield coren suddenly felt a little dizzy with his vision slowly warping as if he was looking through a bent mirror, a few black spots also began creeping into his vision. Before coren could even utter a sound of confusion or wonder what the heck was going on the black spots suddenly swalowed his entire field of vieuw and coren knew no more. As coren slowly regained consciousness he felt himself being supported underneath both his arms, with his feet dragging along the ground. “Wha.. what the petch happened?” Coren tried to force out, but somehow he managed to mash the entire sentence together into one unintelligible string of sounds. “Don't try to talk. We are taking ya to the healing center right now.” A voice sounded somewhere from his right. That answer chilled coren to his very core, the healing center? Had he overgiven and made a mess from himself? Coren quickly shoved that morbid thought away. That couldn't be, he didn't feel anything wrong with him... though now that he was thinking about it he didn't actually feel much coming from his body. His eyes flashed a dull greyish brown as the fear about what the heck happened to his body began to sink in. As the people where dragging him to the healing center the feeling in coren's limbs slowly returned. The only thing that was worrying him was the strange wet feeling on his hands together with what seemed like a few spots on his hands that felt as if he had touched a way to hot pan. How in morwen's name had he screwed his hands up like that? He tried to force open his eyes and tried to look at both of his hands. At what he saw coren let out a sigh of relief, the only thing wrong with them were more or less a dozen perfectly circular shallow wounds on both of his hands, bright red blood was slowly dripping out of it. He had been afraid he had lost a finger or flayed both of his hands. He had been so focused on his hands that he hadn't noticed that they arived at the healing center. “Is there a doctor here that can help right now? I think this guy needs some help, I found him lying in the snow and his hands got pretty strange wounds all over them.”the man who held him up together with his friend yelled out. Coren looked up from his hands when he heard that.. only a single thought flashing through his mind.. how the petch was he going to explain this? |
