Rounding Up The Drykas (Solicah/All Drykas)

Nevar Chevan has ordered the Drykas rounded up.

Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The voluntary militia, the Kuvay'Nas, swung into action at Nevar's orders. All the Drykas in Riverfall were to be rounded up and spoken too in a mandatory meeting. The lurkers of the lodge put their uniforms and swung into action, going from leisurely lazy to serious in just a relatively short amount of time. Going door to door they politely knocked, called in the streets, and made sure every Drykas in Riverfall knew Nevar wanted them for an emergency meeting.

They were gathered, ushered, and pointed towards the Council Chambers and invited to linger. Nevar would address them, the Kuvay'Nas explained, and would do so in only moments. Please hurry, they were advised, and asked not to linger in the streets or wander towards the meeting... but get there soon, take a seat, and wait patiently.

The Kuvay'Nas rounded up all the Drykas they could find.

Rounding Up The Drykas (Solicah/All Drykas)

Postby Solicah on February 29th, 2012, 8:23 pm

Solicah met the invitation with a laugh and smile at first. But, getting only a stern command in response, Solicah realized whatever they were being called for was no matter to jest over. So, obediently he made his way directly to the hall.

As requested he sat, and patiently waited. At least that is how it seemed on the outside. However, he took the opportunity to look upon another Drykas that had sat within the hall. After getting his attention he closed his eyes, and focused on his training. He would project outward onto the web, hoping there was already an established thread in the area in which he could use to contact his kin within the room, and inquire as to if he had any information on what this meeting could be about.

He had brought his bow and arrows for good measure, knowing that as wise as the Akalak were, they were not always predictable. And, in his youth, hadn't ever been called in such a way to any gathering before. This made him nervous.

Slowly he drew in a breath, focusing on his body, feeling it all around him, within him, define him. Then with a steady exhale he let go of his body, and with trained ease slipped into his ethereal self. Opening his eyes he looked about for any pathways to reach the others in the room, silently away from the watchful eyes and alert ears of the Akalak.

If no easy pathway presented itself, Solicah would save his energy and return to his body to wait patiently as requested of him. He was not paranoid enough to weave a path of his own, not yet.

Rounding Up The Drykas (Solicah/All Drykas)

Postby Gossamer on March 2nd, 2012, 5:52 pm

Riverfall was devoid of threads. The drykas who had been visiting the city since Riverfall rose seemingly overnight on the edge of Cyphrus hadn't ever bothered to set webs even though they would have been highly useful in the city of waterfalls. It left Solicah cut off, devoid of buzzing information he'd have if he were in the center of Endrykas.

When significant numbers had gathered, order was called and the Council Chambers, minus the Council, grew quiet as Nevar approached and addressed the Drykas in Pavi. His language was heavily accented with Tukant but he was easily understood by everyone in the room despite that.

"We've had messengers from Mura, most notably the Champion of Avalis. She had the following message to give us."
He said, speaking slowly. He repeated the message and then let it soak in, finally repeating it again.

Storms ripping apart the lands transforming it into shadows of what it once was. Poisoning fields, killing everything that lives and transforming all that survives the onslaught. The land will go infertile unable to bear any fruits or support any life. Vibrant colors illuminating the sky, blinding those that look at it. Buildings crumble into the sea and the pawn becomes a king. The Kings will change the lands forever and the caged beast rattles his cage. The bars are near breaking. The storm ventures on nothing can stand in its path, nothing can stop it. For it is divine it its creation. It will start in the mountains, Windreach.

"It is my suggestion that if you are so inclined you ride home and warn as many as you can along the way that this message has come to us. She says it will be on the cusp of the new year. She says it will take many lives and those exposed will most likely die. Hide in stone. Hide in the earth. This is what our ancestors did. If you have a way to get a message home if you cannot go yourselves, then do so. All of you are welcome here and can take shelter with the rest of us. We are sending riders to Endrykas, so the warning hopefully will reach there. But I know your culture and a lot of your pavilions will not be in the city. I suggest you spread warning." He added. "Riverfall will supply those of you who wish to ride out or need things to help spread this warning. Otherwise, I urge you to take shelter with us and aid in the massive undertaking to move the city below ground." He added, then grew silent, letting people take in what he was talking about and ask questions if they had any.

Rounding Up The Drykas (Solicah/All Drykas)

Postby Solicah on March 2nd, 2012, 7:27 pm

Solicah's mental preparations had not been enough for the words pouring from the dark man's lips. Solicah, even in his most cynicle of thoughts, had not predicted a message of such grave consequence. His mind reeled for a moment, before coming to a deadening halt upon a single image within his mind, his mothers face. And this thought spread, as ones awareness did upon the web, to that of his entire Pavilion, then all of of his people. And, with these thoughts came a plethora of piercing emotions which he did not ignore, but instead allowed to run through him with vigor. All of which lead him to one conclusion. His people must be warned.

Had he excess energy to divert from his focus on contacting his people, and desperately attempting to comprehend what this portent meant for them all, he might actually have been insulted by the suggestion that he could remain in Riverfall while his people stood naked against the coming storm. No Drykas, that truthfully claimed their heritage with even the most remote of honour could ever think of passing up the chance to serve his or her people in such a dangerous time. Though the words for sanctuary were kind, Solicah required not even a moment to decide on what to do. That he would ride from safety into probable danger.

Solicah suspected no foul play, or deception from the Akalak, not because he had heard the rumors spread throughout the caverns of the carved city of Konti messengers arriving with dire news, or out of respect for the warrior men, but because he was young. A youth which coupled with his strong sense of ethnic pride lended the young man an unrivaled sense of conviction in the face of danger. Near excitement, had the news not numbed him to anything but thoughts of action. A conviction which unfortunately robbed him of all skepticism, or doubt that others would for any reason wish to do other than work against him. In this case, a wise trait, one that offered him celerity of mind over those less trusting of the congregation.

And so, his mind began to consider the repercussions of this catastrophe the man warned against. Most of the information shared was irrelevant in his decision making. The origins and long term aftermath of the disaster meant nothing to Solicah, only the immediate warning. They had till the turn of spring to avoid an almost entirely unknown threat. He did, however, know that this threat would come from the skies, and he knew even better than that the stories of his peoples past. They must take to the soil, and hunker against that which would destroy them, and with the condoning and loving embrace of Semele would come out of the disaster with strength, as they had before. And to fuel this, was the knowledge of what might happen if the preparations were not made in time. A nation of men and women blinded by the skies itself, stolen their given gift of sights. Possibly robbed of much more as the lay exposed upon their Sea of Grass, unprotected by other dangers from above.

Solicah suddenly rose to his feet, his emotions not stalling or reeling in shock, the wooden chair beneath him skidding obnoxiously backward. The action happened without thought, and caught Solicah as much off guard as anybody else in the Hall. His mind had focused upon what he must do, but his body had not the freedom to move in such an appropriate manner. And so it took that freedom by force. His body felt the rush of fright from his mind and was ready to act beyond any reason or etiquette that might have held him seatbound. No tempering nature held this Drykas spirit from action, and so. As many of the eyes in the room moved toward him, he decided it best he speak his mind instead of stand in foolish silence.

First he spoke to his people, not the bearer of this horrid news. Niceties were of no concern of his immediate thoughts. "Brothers. Sisters." His voice was clear in flawless native Pavi, adorned with overly active motions. His usual flare of the gesture side of the speak only heightened by his sudden agitation, and anxious attempt to fight through the pressure he had brought upon himself by standing in order to construct somewhat coherent sentences out of vastly incoherent thoughts, and absolutely incoherent emotions. This lead to a very rigid and stressed, but quite impactful set of motions as the words rolled from his tongue. "There is no time for long speeches or lengthy debate today. This news must be spread and spread quickly. I have no doubt that all who are able will assist without question. In two bells I will ride out from the gates of Riverfall, and will fight to further the message bared by all those that ride with me in any way necessary." He thought for a moment if anything else might need to be said to his kine, but the answer came as an easy relief, the only that his mind held in that moment. His people knew what they must do, his words need not have been said, and that he knew. And for that reason he kept his words to a minimum, controlled and simple.

For the man that presented this message to them, and took time from his own cities preparations to offer shelter and more importantly warning to another nation, Solicah gave more care to grant thanks in that moment. If he took the moment to thank the Akalak for his nation than no other would need to speak, and the quicker they could all be ready to ride into the Sea of Grass, and the faster his home could prepare for what came. Leveling his eyes directly on Nevar he said, with honestly and only a little fear thick in his voice. "On behalf of myself, and my nation. Thank you for the time you have sacrificed to gather us together and share this dreadful prophecy with us, as well as the knights you have dispatched to warn Endrykas. I promise you we shall spread the word with the utmost haste, and with this message will enter a record of Riverfall's honor and kindness within my people. It shall not be forgotten." Then with the longest pause he had taken during his 'speech' he thought upon how to word the last of what he had to say, then with great deliberation and effort switched to Tukant, in which he said quite roughly, "Thank you. Stand fast against that which would topple you, friend."

Then, took a loud breath at the end of the very long winded sentence, shaking his curly topped head slightly to adjust his attention back to his people, to see if they had anything to add or replies to give. He hoped not. He would not have usually spoken when those older to him were present, but felt he spoke for his entire nation, and thus the individual voice did not matter, only the message. And that hope, he clung to with a bite of his lips, as finally some level of shame over his actions seeped into his mind.

Rounding Up The Drykas (Solicah/All Drykas)

Postby Kelaugh on March 19th, 2012, 12:56 am

Kelaugh had made it late to the gathering, only just slipping into the crowded council hall in time to hear the warning. The message gave her the chills and filled her with a sense of dread. The only place to find shelter for the Drykas would be beneath the ground, in the subterranean tunnels and rooms left from the last cataclysmic event known as the Valterrian. She hoped that this message could be spread fast, hoping that their proud people would not suffer from this turn of events.

When Solicah stood and began to talk, she listened, surprised that her cousin would be so bold, but she could hear the truth on his lips, a truth that all of the Drykas present could acknowledge. Her thoughts were muddled, a swirl of emotion and the strange foreboding. But Solicah's message helped calm her and she nodded, stepping forward.

"I will join you Solicah." she said, "The word must spread throughout the Sea of Grass, to all of our kith and kin, if we are to survive this coming storm." One corner of her mind was telling her to back down and shut her mouth, but she felt that this was no time to be silent and that there was no shame in speaking out for her people. She thought of all the people in their pavilion, and the other pavilions in the Sea of Grass, and felt they should leave immediately, gods knew how this storm would affect their great land.

Rounding Up The Drykas (Solicah/All Drykas)

Postby Gossamer on March 19th, 2012, 3:50 pm

Nevar was an honorable man. Regardless of the differences he had with any race or culture, he knew that this was something that eclipsed even those concerns. And when it came to the Drykas, the Akalak had an understanding with them. They never encroached on their territory other than to hunt and raid in the areas around Riverfall, and the Drykas left them to it so long as the impact of the Sea of Grass was low. Both cultures traded and both cultures had a mutual respect. But Nevar also knew, having visited the city, how vulnerable Endrykas would be and how vulnerable the pavilions would be that weren't around Endrykas to get the warnings he had from his men.

He also suspected, though he had no proof, that the Drykas communicated in other ways - possibly messenger birds or smoke signals - that the Akalak were unaware of. So it struck him in telling these individuals about this crisis that perhaps more people could be spared besides just those in Endrykas.

"If anyone needs supplies, horses, gear... coin... let me know. Riverfall will provide during this crisis. We only ask that you use the resources to see your people safe." He said.

If there were no more requests, he'd close the meeting down and allow the people to either come up to him with individual questions or request supplies. If they had no requests, he'd see the crowd dispersed and let people be on their way bringing warning where they could.

OOC: If you want to request provisions from Nevar feel free, otherwise I'll continue to mod your spreading the warning.

Rounding Up The Drykas (Solicah/All Drykas)

Postby Solicah on March 28th, 2012, 10:25 am

The corner of Solicah's lips quivered and tugged as if attempting to adopt an all too familiar smile at the sight of his cousin rise, the strength of her words. He found it funny, in a way, that the youth would rise so quickly, speak so boldly. But, alas, in such times a smile could not reach even Solicah's lips, the child of the eversmile. Instead his eyes locked with hers, cultivating strength from their union, then turned to those elder to him, those that knew what they spoke of without the crutch of words. He knew there would be a moment, of stillness of processing before they all burst to action, all moved to gather what little they would need. Solicah wondered if Nevar knew how light such a travel would be, how few the supplies needed for Drykas of that number was. He doubted, the Akalak he had seen were very material, demanding their copious amounts of food, their heavy horses, and all too often their bulky armor. There was no room for trinkets in the life of the Drykas, and certainly not in such a dire time. Solicah, for one, would find himself lucky if his people made it out of this with the skin on their flesh in tact. Trinkets be damned.

The closing of the meeting was swift indeed, waiting a moment for the less prepared of the gathering to request what they would need, taking the hospitality, in current light, without a single bashful blink of an eye. Solicah even dipping into a small supply of rations offered to the collective. There would be no time for hunt. Then, Solicah lead Kelaugh from the chamber, falling into perfect stride beside her. He didn't speak, though he would answer to her questions. They all knew that words could not be put to use till they were out of Riverfall.

He did, however, shed word for another, the third of their group Wyndivyr who had yet to gain her windmarks. For her there was a simple command from Solicah's stern tone, one rarely exercised. "Stay." This word met with absolute defiance. She was too young, and too slow to be of any help. And, so, she would remain in the city. Without bothering to merit her objections, Solicah rode from the city, his own strider holding him aloft. He would wait before the entrance, to exactly the time he set out in the meeting, wishing he had shortened the time as felt the sheer gravity of each passing moment, as if his own life were slipping away. In truth it was worse, the life of his people could be fading.

Secret :
Nothing but Rations for Solicah. He'll wait out front for the others. Mind giving a little more detail on who the other Drykas here are, when you get a chance?
