Digging (Cerus & Sam)

[Sama'el Sunsinger]

"Where are we going?" he asked, voice rising in alarm. "Father... Father!?"

Just because he had nobody to watch his back didn't mean he couldn't pretend to. Sometimes it even worked, scaring off someone who might not bat an eyelash at taking out a young man all by himself. Especially when they saw Horse, who was too expensive for the likes of him to own.

[Cerus]

"Oh, he said he'd meet us!" He said casually, before dropping his voice down. "You are going to buy me lunch, aren't you? Since you have my coin purse after all."

When Cerus sold something, he sold it. He didn't waver in the slightest. Had he been imagining he was a dog, no one could have talked him out of it. Except perhaps maybe those looking to fill the nearest asylum. But other than that.

Sam opened his mouth to protest, but then he figured the man might be peaceful about it. Lunch had better be somewhere public, though, where it wouldn't be easy peasy to knife Sam in the ribs.

"Oh, all right. But nothing fancy. I'm poor."

[Cerus]

"You're poor?" He wished he'd have been a more violent man at that moment. He would have done something uncouth like smash the mans head into the wall. But seeing as that would only end in trouble he kept walking, keeping a sharp eye on him. Little did he know that his eyes had turned a sunburst red in the process.

"We're all poor. Which is why you're buying me lunch. With your own money."

Sam smirked. Next time, he wouldn't apologize. He would pickpocket in a heavier crush of crowd so he wouldn't be remembered at all. It was a learning curve. He happened to glance up for a better look at his prey-cum-predator and blinked. Red demon eyes. Oh, shyke.

"What are you?" he whispered.

[Cerus]

"Pissed off." Was his response. Sneering he clenched his teeth together and pressed on. "Listen, this is no sort of time to get--" He stopped himself and looked down the street and then back the other side.

"Lovely." He was not talking to the man he had neatly captured, but to himself as he realized he ventured into waters he shouldn't have. "Just give me my money and I'll be off. We can be rid of eachother." If not there would be violence he just knew it.

"No time to get what?" he asked, not with belligerence, but curiosity, as he fished out the man's pouch. He wasn't too, too upset about this turn of events. It was mostly just to practice his pickpocketing, keep his skills up. After all, he was doing all right in the hunting and trapping with Jaeden and all he had to do was teach him to ride a horse and give him a sparring partner.

Brown eyes were turned on the man for some indication of the little secret he was dealing with, handing him the pouch. "There you go, chief."

[Cerus]

"No time for me to continue this witty banter with you." He took the coin purse, and looked down at it while testing it's weight. If the man had managed to pinch some out of there while he'd been at Cerus' side he earned them. That was a slight of hand he should of used more of.

"I would say thank you, but I hardly think that's appropriate. You'll see me around. I promise." He smiled and turned to go back the way he'd came.

The cool sharpness of Sam's hunting knife kissed the small of the man's back. There was a smile in his voice.

"See you, then."

And then he was off running in the other direction.

[Dusk]
