The Hunger Games

Postby Tallis on March 21st, 2012, 4:16 pm

So my friend introduced me to The Hunger Games trilogy last summer. She lent me all three books, and I finished reading them in two days! As with most books, the ending left me wanting MORE. And, as luck would have it, the movie's coming out this Friday.

I'm DYING to see it, but I'm missing the midnight screening for a trip, and I doubt I'll even be able to get tickets after I'm back!

One thing that worries me though, the movie's been hyped up so much, so I'm worried my expectations may be too high :( The same thing happened to me for Avatar and Inception. They were still great movies, well at least Inception was, but everyone made them sound life-changing. Which they weren't.

Also, Jennifer Lawrence wouldn't have been my first choice for Katniss. She's supposed to be small and skinny, with black hair, olive skin, and gray eyes! Of course, I'll overlook this fact as long as her acting is compelling.

And Taylor Swift!

End of rant.

The Hunger Games

I was puzzled as to why Jennifer Lawrence was chosen as well, then I saw the trailer. The part where she volunteers to be tribute made me feel all kinds of awe -- she's amazing!

I can't wait for the movie as well, but just like you, I often expect way more than I should when people build it up for me. I guess the best option is to see it *ASAP* so that I can get an opinion ahead most of my friends. ;)

I love the way the environments are crafted. There's a lot of amazing detail there. However, I always imagined the people of the Capitol to be even more over the top. Like a Lady Gaga costume convention or something.

Still, I haven't felt this excited about a movie in a LONG time, except for The Avengers, but that still feels like a long way off. So no offense to Twi-hards, but I'm hoping Hunger Games blows everything out of the water.

And I don't know if this makes me a weird person, but seeing the tributes rise out of the ground and race to the Cornucopia made me want to be in a (non-lethal) battle royale. It seems like an awesome game of tag :P

The Hunger Games

My biggest fear with the movie, as it is with all movies that star children/teens is that it will be softened up because of it. The Hunger Games is a hardcore experience, but often movie makers are afraid to put young actors into realistic looking situations like that. Either they dull down the bad parts, give them crappy fake-looking weapons, or they just skip it over entirely. The Hunger Games is about a teenage girl getting put through hell, I really hope they don't wuss out and make the movie suck because of that.

The Hunger Games

Postby Narrink Akamu on March 27th, 2012, 1:43 am

I must say I knew about the hunger games by the movie first (when I was watching the invention of Hugo Cabret (not sure if that WAS the name since it was in spanish) ) and the trailer itself called both my attention and my friend's, we both looked each other and thought the same "we have to watch it" I ordered all three books, and still waiting for them to arrive. However, I watched the movie first, to get a glimpse of what I might find in the book, and to be honest, I can't wait till I get the books. Yes both me and my friend watched the movie like two anxious kids holding the other's hand in nervousness for the outcome of everything, which we could predict, but still endured the thrill of not expecting anything.

as summary: watch it, it'll be worth watching, and I'll be waiting for the other movies if they dare to make them.

Happy hunger games, and may the odds be ever in your favor

The movie was good, though they did change a few minor things, such as how she got the mockingjay pin. That was supposed to be from the mayors daughter. Anyway, the other two books are amazing. Cant wait.

I was very disappointed by the movie. The camera looked like it was taped by a 5 year old and they left out alot of parts. I didn't feel the connection with Rue in the movie when she dies.

I can say I loved the books, but haven't seen the movie yet.

Agree. I hope that the movie didn't soften up everything-or worse- focus only on the romance or make Katniss/Peeta/Gale an emotionless love interest like they did to Ginny in the Harry Potter movies. (The HP movies really butchered her character...)
